Friction in the Room
Legis. Vivian Viloria-Fisher (D-East Setauket) on Monday accused Presiding Officer William Lindsay, in private, of being a sexist after he voted against a proposal to close a trap-and-skeet shooting range, according to several legislators at a Democratic caucus meeting.
Fisher reportedly said Lindsay wouldn’t have tabled the bill, sponsored by Kate Browning (WFP-Shirley), had it been put forth by one of the male legislators.
As Fisher walked out of the meeting, several aides standing in the hallways told a reporter they heard Fisher say: "He’s an arrogant son of a -----."
One aide wasn’t sure whether Fisher said "arrogant" or "sexist".
Fisher denied uttering any vulgarities.
Chau Lam
"I don’t use that kind of language," Fisher said in an interview afterward.
Lindsay said he did not hear Fisher’s utterances but the reports got back to him.
"In the heat of the moment people call people names," Lindsay said. "It’s not a big deal."

The old quote, "The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior" And Vivian has certainly proved this to be true again, Ms Fisher is self centric and exploits her culture and gender to try to bend the facts as she see’s it. Too bad, because if she only understood the art of compromise she would best serve her constituents and fellow legislators, however she chooses to only serve herself.
It is a real shame to watch Vivian’s potential lost with in her own ego, similar to the Tour de France winner, Floyd Landis testing positive for steroids during cycling’s most prestigious race, but he could not admit any fault. A real shame for both of them
I for one do not believe for a minute that Lindsay would have voted differently if a male legislator offered the bill. Lindsay is voting the way his constituents want. Obviously if Vivian thinks someone decides how to vote on a bill by who is offering it, this is how she decides how to vote instead of doing what is right for her constituents. This is disgraceful. I for one would like to see some sort of redeeming quality not yet apparent from Fisher.
Vivian Viloria-Fisher is still mad that Lindsay got the Presiding Officer over her. I swear sometimes I think she should be on a heavy dose of Ritalin
Yes. VivVilIsh is a bit impetuous, self-focused, petty and catty. Hormonal or just a personality trait? Then again, thank God men don't go through menopause, because we'd probably be even worse. Bad enough how we handle our... scratch that... CREATE our mid-life crises.
Now, was VivVilIsh being sexist when she called Bill a son of a b----? Wouldn't it have been more PC to just call him a b----? But, SON of a b----, that specifically attacks him as being a man (not to mention the aspersions it cast on his mom).
I prefer the Dick Cheney favorite of "Go f--- yourself." Very utilitarian, and without gender bias.
Let's see... Bill Lindsay is from a male labor background, elderly, from the old school.
He is sexist. Big deal. It is what it is.
Vivian Viloria-Fisher is a hard working, dedicated legislator who doesn’t have to defend herself or her record. It seems to me that Newsday has it in their minds that she is otherwise and will do whatever it takes to slant the public’s perception of her good name. I am glad she refuses to dignify the low brow attempts by Newsday to destroy her name and reputation.
To the “alledged” issue, Presiding Officer William Lindsay actions speaks for itself, he is a self-centered sexist.
What makes you think Lindsay's a sexist? Whenever Viv has a problem she claims she's being attacked because she's a woman. QUIT YOUR VICTIM STORY That's what people don't like about you!!
The good old boy network (Lindsay and Montano as two of the leading ring leaders) has stepped all over the Honorable Vivian Viloria-Fisher and Kate Browning, who unfortunately is too new to realize it yet. If it weren’t for the Honorable Jon Cooper the working environment would be totally out of control. Ms. Viloria-Fisher has been and still is a victim of the sexist machine that controls the legislature.
It's true that VivVilIsh is hard working. She does work very hard. She also has every right to be proud of her record. Unfortunately, she does have a mean streak. Of course, many politicians do. The "holding a grudge" thing isn't so much what bothers me. It's the compulsion to always cry racism or sexism, and accuse others of being racist or sexist. Save that argument for when it's real. She's played those cards so often and so falsely that we would just assume future accusations to be false. Unfortunately, that opens the door for real racists and sexists to get away with bigotry. It's a shame to see someone who truly is so hardworking and diligent fall into this trap. But she should be ashamed of calling a fairminded individual like Bill Lindsay a sexist just because he doesn't do what she wants when she wants.
As far as VivVilIsh, if she could turn off that negative part of her game, she has the potential to be an absolutely outstanding legislator because, ultimately, she cares. She cares as much as Lindsay, Levy, Horsley. They all care.
First it was Steven Engelbright - then Frank McKay - then Tim Bishop - then Brian Foley - then Ricardo Montano - and don't forget Elie Mystal is in there somewhere - Now it's Bill Lindsey. Vivian just hates men legislators who are brighter and sharper then she is. Lets see who she goes after next!
It is interesting to note that not only has Steve Levy been conspicuously absent with anything to do with Vivian Fishers campaign, but not she is resorting to egregious negative tactics that only the best self absorbed egotists could appreciate. One must ask, did she not get enough of the billionaire Marshas Laufers financial love to run her campaign honestly....i guess not
