Nassau Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs was there. The entire Democratic legislative staff was there. The only ones who didn’t show up for the Democratic legislative caucus called by Jacobs for last Thursday were the legislators.
Well, Legis. David Denenberg did show up. Late.
“It wasn’t unexpected, because it’s summertime,” Jacobs said of the low turnout. Three of the 10 members of the Democratic delegation were away; two had called in and said they couldn’t make the meeting.“We knew at best we’d have four.”
Still, Jacobs — who survived a challenge to her leadership earlier this year that paralyzed the legislature for weeks — is determined to keep calling caucus meetings every two weeks, as she put it, “come hell or high water.” She said, “it’s very easy to complain about not having face-to-face meetings. The best way to stop that is to schedule them. If people don’t come they have to explain it to themselves.”
