After state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer accused him of being a chronic tax raiser in last night’s debate, Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi said that he hadn’t raised the county's portion of the property tax in the past three years – a record among the state’s counties.
But the same holds for New York City, which last moved to raise its property tax rates across the board in 2002, the same year Suozzi did so in Nassau. Both argued at the time that a double-digit tax hike was needed to remedy a looming cash crunch.
So, it sounds more like Nassau is one of six counties that hasn’t raised property taxes in the past three years. And the city has paid $400 rebates to homeowners in both of the last two years.

heres what should happen within the next 5 weeks. suozzi/spitzer should debate at least 3 more times . property taxes on a neutral site on long island(not judy jaxobs house) failing public schools somewhere in new york city(a PUBLIC SCHOOL auditorium) and no jobs upstate( anywhere upstate, mr. spitzer can choose the site). This will be democracy at its best. The people have the right to hear both candidates plans. Hey invite faso too. Its up to newsday, CBS news, etc to get these set up. You want to sell newspapers and have people tune in for a good show, well then start making those phone calls to spitzer, because hes the one saying No, NOT Tom Suozzi.
Good idea, Suozzi fan. You're right,"the people have the right to know" that you are a "paid" Suozzi staffer...
give it up JOE, Ur sheriff of wall street is acting more like the deputy of mayberry. Oh where oh where can elliot be?? do u know JOE??
Suozzi "fan"...you gave a non-denial denial. So you really are a paid suozzi staffer..
Joe, honest, i am not apaid suozzi staffer. I have a real job. and what may u be? a nassau PBA member, a disgruntled nassa worker, or perhaps a fired one, or let me guess, ur just a concerned well knowledged citizen that knows right from wrong, lol.
As a resident, I feel that our tax doubled in last 5 years. County recovered from the financial problem. But where this millions of money is going now? And Why the county is increasing the assessment values of properties? Can the county buy some of the properties at that assessed price? Increasing the assessment value means we are worried!!
After resolving the financial problem county supposed to reduce the Tax.
