Democratic Assemblyman Philip Ramos will not have have a free run for re-election after all.
Islip Republicans at the last minute have designated Waldo Cabrera, 39, a real estate agent and developer, to run against the two-term incumbent, and was still out collecting petitions, with an army of 30 to 40 volunteers, to qualify for the ballot.
"We're a little bit behind the eight ball because we had one and a half weeks to do what normally takes more than a month," said Cabrera. He must collect a minimum of 500 signatures to qualify for the ballot against Ramos, a Central Islip resident, but hopes to bring more than 700 signatures as a buffer against any objections.

Nobody wins without choices I know Mr. Cabrera will at least make things interesting
