The governor’s race got more crowded over the weekend when the Integrity Party announced its nominee – singer and actress Phoebe Legere. She then performed on Saturday with her band at the first annual Main Squeeze Accordian Festival in Manhattan.
Integrity Party officials said they would begin tomorrow to collect the necessary 15,000 signatures to get Legere on the ballot. The party played a role in the election last fall of Vincent F. DeMarco to be Suffolk County sheriff, collecting 3,000 signatures for him and 10,000 Islandwide for various candidates.
“A vote for Phoebe and the Integrity Party is not a wasted vote, because if we get at least 50,000 votes we become an official party and will be able to offer a true alternative to the two-party system statewide for the next four years,” said party leader Darren Johnson. Legere divides her time between East Hampton and Manhattan.
Moviegoers may be familiar with Legere’s appearance in two of the “Toxic Avenger” films. For more see her political Web site.

Thanks James! Whatever can be said about Phoebe, one thing is not that she is boring or retiring! We, the Integrity Party, are bound and determined to get Phoebe on the ballot and if that happens, watch out! There is no telling what Phoebe is likely to say or do to make this what is fast becoming a really tedious governor's race far more interesting! Free Martin Tankleff!
