Lame-duck Gov. George Pataki, while heading out the door, has reappointed a long-time Republican heavyweight, Walter Hazlitt, to a new seven-year term on the Suffolk Community College board of trustees.
Hazlitt is a former Suffolk lawmaker, Brookhaven GOP chairman, and executive director of the Suffolk Water Authority,
Reacting to the news, Hazlitt, who is 80, deadpanned: “I only hope that I live out my term.”
