Doing Lunch in a Pool
Space is so tight at the Democratic State Convention in Buffalo that the 300 or so delegates will be eating lunch Tuesday under a tent in a reflecting pool drained of its water.
The Hyatt Regency hotel, where the convention is being held, only has one ballroom large enough to accommodate the crowd, and there isn’t sufficient time to setup for lunch and then the afternoon working session. So, convention organizers have moved the meal up the block to Fountain Plaza, which features an outdoor reflecting pool in the summer and an ice rink in winter.
The site’s only drawbacks may be the weather, temperatures are supposed to top 80 degrees Tuesday, and the persistent beeping noise of opening and closing doors on the light-rail trains that stop outside the tent.
