Verizon heard them now.
A week after saying it would continue to run a television ad depicting two chained pit bulls lunging at the owner of a LG Dare phone, Verizon Wireless has yanked the offending ads.
A piece in Ad Age points to the influence of special-interest groups such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in effecting the turnaround.
But irate pit-bull owners were also a grass-roots force in the opposition, complaining that -- yet again -- their human-friendly breed was being depicted as a savage junkyard dog.

I honestly feel that people get too bent out of shape over ads such as these. Would there have been such an uproar if they used a police or military dog? Or even a fierce chihuahua?
What's next? Pulling a scene in a werewolf movie because it depicts wolves in a bad light? Relax already!
I can't believe Verizon caved in to pit bull loving whiners and drama queens. "Whaaaaaa! They're making our dogs out to be killers! Whaaaaa!"
Too damn funny. I used to live in a crappy neighborhood that was full of pit bulls and the dopes that own them. The Verizon ad made me laugh because I would see a similar scene, everyday. I just figured Verizon's ad people had the same experience.
So, what's the deal? Is it no longer PC to depict real life experiences? Is it improper for art to imitate reality?
Maybe these pit bull lovers should spend a little less time attacking TV ads, and put that time and effort into raising money for any one of the numerous funds set up to help victims of pit bull attacks.

these dogs are killed by the dozens in shelters EVERY DAY... why add to the stigma that they already have as being terrorizing dogs when they love humans so much...
people abuse their loyalty to humans and make them fight.. then they abuse the scary reputation and breed them for other such @sshol3s.... then they are dumped in shelters.. to be killed...
then what would be good home for them pass them by because they are afraid that they will be too rough or might just snap one day and eat their kids..
enough with this..
chi's and other dogs aren't being euthanized as much as this breed..

oh.. and more than half the time a so-called pitbull has attacked a person.. it is a completely mixed-breed dog that isn't even a pitbull.. or seems like such to the reporter, policemen, etc...
either that or the word pitbull is thrown in there to target audiences...

Right you are Monse! Many of the "pitbull" identifications are not pitbulls at all. And we didn't create the uproar about pitbulls - the media did with biased reporting based on inaccurate facts. Maybe we should ban the idiots that train them to fight and abuse them? The laws should be tougher on dog fighting because they generate a LOT of money and a slap on the wrist is worth the risk for the idiots that fight them.
