Oh my God. That poor baby. And Laura also. Wouldn't you know insurance wouldn't help. At least someone was kind enough to set up a fund for her. Please let us know how they are doing.

Wonderful news about Lexi's return home. You would think the insurance company would would understand the circumstances and reinstate the policy as if it had not bee canceled. Maybe all of their customers should cancel and take their business elsewhere.

BONNIE - Can you please send us the information about this insurance and an address? I would like to write them. I think we should get one of our BIG letter writing and faxing sessions going! This is not right to do the owner that way under the circumstances of feeling Lexi was gone forever. There should be some type of grace period in circumstances like this.

Did Laura pre-pay for the entire month of January for her pet insurance? Is she entitled to any kind of refund if cancelled before the month was up? I'm asking because I'm thinking that there may be a legal way out of this. If she was entitled to a refund and didn't cash the check yet, maybe there's a legal loophole here. In the meantime its an excellent idea to start a writing campaign.

"I spoke with Laura, and then the insurance company (VPI). The supervisor tried to push me around, and before I realized it I said, "Hey, don't try to push this Southern woman around and pretend you do not know what I am talking about. It won't work. Now talk to me, or several people are working on getting the New York media on this story. You can talk to the reporters instead."

Well we agreed to talk (Daniel the supervisor, me and Laura). When I tried to get him back, did not take my call - "he was on another call" - haaa. Left my info for him to call me back, we will see.

Anyway, I spoke again with Laura and some people there in New York are already working on getting the news media to write a nice little story about all of this. Darlene, our Weenie Media Queen, give you give a few calls too. Let me know and I will e-mail the info to you on Laura and her insurance.

I told Laura I would compose a nice petition for folks to sign which we could present to VPI and the media. Okay folks, the battle is on. Whatever you can do, please do to help Laura Lane and Lexi.

LAURA AND LEXI UPDATE: Lexi came home and seems to be doing very well after the surgery. She is eating well and sleeping a lot to regain her strength. Bonnie and Laura both told me if the vets had not operated the day they did, Lexi would have probably lost her leg. (Thank God for watching over this sweet gal and all our others, and for leading our sweet gals in New York to her.)

Good Job Mila! VPI are horrible people, they are not in the helping animal business, they are in the helping myself business. You get them girl!!

I had them once and they would not pay for Rosebud to have her anal glands cleaned out. They said it was "routine", I was speaking with a women and I asked her how would she like it if she went to get her "Pap Smear" test and HER insurance told HER they would not pay because it was ROUTINE!!!

Pet insurance is supposed to be like human insurance.

If I am correct, insurance should last until the end of the month when you cancel it. Was this something that falls in those guidelines?

Gayle M - I had not heard about this. Thank you for sharing the info with us. This saddens my heart so much. When will the evilness against these beautiful creatures finally end once and for all.

We need some more happy outcomes on the blog. Too much sadness it seems lately. I think I am about to have to pull away and rebuild my strength again. Seems the devil is really after my strength lately - in more ways than one.

Welcome Shelb. Please do not hesitate to post on here if you feel like it. Sometimes I feel like I'm a blathering idiot but that doesn't stop me. Poor Dante...I will be lighting some more candles again. Haven't been there for a few days. The horse slaughter bill in SD is making me ill. Stuff like this makes you wonder about how people can actually consider this.

Update About the Animal Communicator:

I spoke with one of the people working with the animal communicator, and she agreed it would be okay to post an update at this time. I felt since I had opened this door on the blog and helped to find the animal communicator's name and contact number, I owed an update to everyone on here.

As you all know, this is the animal communicator which helped with Tulip. She has been very nice and helpful from what I understand.

She has assured the people working with her that she has communicated with our Vivi, and Vivi says she is alive and well. She has received no signs we have lost Vivi by any means. The hope is very good. So everyone can smile!

She has given a new area for the searchers and all those people working behind the scenes to hit with faxes, e-mails and posters. They are in the process of doing this right now, and are hoping for a new sighting soon. I promise to give updates as I know more.

In the meantime, everyone light candles, pray hard, and send some "strong" vives to Vivi to please go to a rescuer and talk through issues with the animal communicator to come home soon.

You are so welcome Mila. We were all feeling the same way too. I feel very good about this communicator and have renewed hope in my heart for our girl. She deserves that homecoming and big party - she has done so much to help others along her journey! Maybe soon we will see her rewarded.

THIS NEWS is GREAT!
Has the AC given a specific location?? What needs to be done is what worked for TICKET, LEXI and ANNIE... WE NEED A BAITED TRAP. IF this AC is confident she is in a certain area then can this be done??? What about the place that lended the Trap LEXI was caught in? Could this be looked into?? I dont think we should even wait for a sighting, maybe feel this AC out about a specific location and we can all concentrate on sending Vivi vibes to approach a BAITED TRAP in the spot she recomends, where she will have food water and a blanket perhaps, something comforting for her to find. 2 baited traps would even be better if possible, this could be our only chance in actually catching her. Its a good idea if I say so myself

If there will be a trap, I think we would need to know a few specifics about the trap, what it looks like, what will be put in it what kind of food so we can send specific safe comforting images about it. It always seems kind of odd to me to think dogs' thoughts are English like ours here in this country or French if you are in France and so on. Temple Grandin says animals think in pictures which because of her autism, that is how she thinks and understands the world, and this is why she communicates with and understands animals so well. Temple has to bring up images to understand things, she says it is like a video or tv or movie in her mind. She does not understand too well, abstract thoughts.

Monica and I did the Vivi reading, we had talked for months about it waiting for the right time, we needed to make sure no other AC was communicating like the past when she was hounded all the time by them from all over. We needed one who knew nothing of her story, we had a list of questions to ask and she is not with anyone, it blew my mind when I talked to the woman, we needed to hear certain things to make sure she talked to her, I can assure you we will be posting this weekend, we have a general area but it's a 50/50 shot it is exact, we already have our fax queens working like crazy and they are amazing, they blow me away, applaud to them.

we cannot do a trap yet, with Lexi she was sighted 2 days in a row same spot and positive ID, labs are different than whippets they don't run like wildfire, and the grounds keeper lived there to monitor it as this area is far from us and pretty open unlike Lexi's case, very small place. If we get calls then we hit the right spot if not we move to a different area until we do. Fingers crossed we get that call.

OK, I will be one of the people who don't post often, but I have to share something about an experience I had with my whippet and autism. I am a teacher of students with autism, and I also happen to have a whippet, whom I found as a stray (right about the time Vivi went missing). Long story short, I'm in Michigan, I looked for the owner, and she's not Vivi!!! OK: My whippet girl loves to jump on me like crazy when I get home. So much so, I was about ready to scream at her, when I got an idea. I have to wear picture icons (which tell students simple commands, like stop, walk, don't touch), etc. on a chain around my neck. I got the great idea of showing the "stop" icon to my gigi (without saying a word). I was soooooo surprised when she actually stopped and sat down, one paw raised. (She was NEVER trained to do this, at least by me!). OK, I thought to myself, this can't be happening. The next time she jumped up on me, I "showed" her the stop sign again. She did the exact same thing, and sat there waiting for her next command. From this, I KNOW dogs (and whippets!) are visual, from this experience. So we need to visualize the thoughts, just like Libby says. Somehow they understand, and maybe Vivi will see our pictures.

Maybe the seventh time is the charm. I'm getting strange error messages when posting. Thanks for the information Debbie. Many thanks to all of you. I will be praying that all goes well.

What does the stop icon look like? Or any others. I might like to try some visuals with my dogs. Are they universal symbols used with autistics and is there a place online that is a resource for such things? Do you think there is a kind of symbol or pictures you think might be comforting then or maybe send her images of Jill or something. I think I have seen one or two pics of her on the web somewhere in connection with Vivi stories. Questions, questions!!

I have read so much of Temple Grandin and think she is amazing and her insight on animals is tremendous. She is certain animals think in visuals like she does as she gets their images and can see exactly what they are frightened of in a specific situation or what pleases or comforts them. I am pretty interested in autism as a good friend of mine I worked with had a son with autism and also fragile X. Back before there was much information on it and the internet was just beginning.

Again I loved your story. Maybe a new way to start training dogs!

the Horse Slaughter bill was killed today in South Dakota!! YEAH!!!

Great news all around! Gayle M, that's wonderful about S. Dakoto defeating that bill. I did e-mails and faxes and it lookes like the people have spoken.
Keeping everything crossed for Vivi. The visuals make sense. I have worked with autistic children and they respond better visually as opposed to written schoolwork.
I just read that there is a rise in pets in shelters due to the economy and families having trouble paying mortgages and other bills. This is so sad that our furry friends are paying the price for mismanagement of the economy.

DEBBIE: thanks so much for your post. My question is... if Vivi is not with someone does that mean she is out on the streets all this time? Even after almost 2 yrs, the mention of Vivi is what brings us all together again. Our hopes have been dashed so many times but maybe this time Vivi will finally come home. Pls keep us posted.

my Vivi friends are the best - again, they are taking over for me while i am busy mangling myself. trust me - the gang is looking into everything reasonable that can be done for our girl. My wonderful friend, Monica, came to check on me at lunch and was talking about heading out to post soon with the girls. their staunt devotion to Vivi and YOU brings tears to my eyes in my absence. i so wish i could be there to help out. there are very few people in this world that you will meet like my bunch in NY. if anyone can grab her up, they can. she is lucky to have them.

keep praying and give these girls all of the support you can - especially now that they have to step in for a cripple like me. ps:

The signs teachers use for autism come from a program called Boardmaker, which costs about $400. However, I have used images just downloaded from the internet as well. A picture of a stop sign, about 2x2 will do just fine. For our children, we laminate them, which makes them last longer. We then use a hole puncher to punch a hole in the corner, string it up, hang it around our neck, and we have our visual directives handy. Sometimes you can get a few pictures just by typing in boardmaker and the "pec" you want.

I often wondered if the sign worked because Gigi is a "sighthound" ??? They're a little more visually oriented than other dogs. I should actually try to use other visuals as well, such as "off", "down" snack (betcha' she'd learn that one fast!).

Hope this little bit of information works for anyone who's interested!
