News is not so good for Tulip, an Irish Wolfhound missing near Durham, N.C.
Tulip was spotted both Tuesday and yesterday around noon in Durham at the end of Heritage Drive between Umstead and Open Air. This is less than a mile from Guess road and backs up to
the Eno River State Park.

TULIP WAS RESCUED AND SEEMS TO BE IN GOOD HEALTH!!!!!!!! YIPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
can someone explain why the LI paper cares about a dog in Durham?
Susie, the Animal House blog concentrates on companion animals across the U S and us bloggers are from all over, too. It is good to post missing animals because there could be someone on here that might be able to help.
MILA - Thanks for this explanation to Susie. You are so right. And even if no one lives in that area, they may know others that do and could help. Regardless, we all love ALL animals and wish to remember these in our prayers. And judging by the success rate lately, I would say this is working! Wish it would work with Vivi, but I have a feeling God is not through with Missy Vivi's journey yet.
We are definitely now in the age of the Worldwide Web - we are all connected by this incredible technology.
I have a very fond remembrance of this I received yesterday for my birthday (1/7/08). Debra from NJ made me the most "beautiful and incredible" dog album for my birthday (I'll try to take pictures and post to share a little later). She put so much care, love and art into this album of the 11 doxies and their owner for me. The album even includes stores and poems written by Ann, and the story of her first dachsund who was so special to her. Debra typed all of this and printed on some of the most beautiful papers with flowers and designs all through the album. I wish all of you could see it and cry with happiness as I did. It is the most wonderful gift I have ever received by far. The thought she did this for me and put so many hours into it touched me so deeply. It was truly and labor and gift of love.
If not for the blog and the Worldwide Web, I would have never known about these 11 sweet doxies, and all of us would not have been able to help. So once again, that Worldwide Web connected NJ to Memphis, TN. All because a Newsday reporter chose allow our animal rescue to reside on her blog in LI.
What a special gift this album is, Kathleen!! I can only imagine the tears of so many emotions you must have felt. You worked so hard to find homes for the doxies. God bless you and all the others who cared so much.
You are right about the immense amount of information and technology available today. Sometimes good and sometimes not so good.
But Animal House has been and remains very important to so many, myself included. Our love for Vivi has enveloped us and broadened our awareness and abilities to assist wherever needed.
Now where is that lovely little whippet girl???
MILA - You are so right. To see all those happy little faces and know they all had good homes, even our little senior that did not last long but had a wonderful home until she passed, just brought the tears flowing. Debra is the hero here though - she sought the help for these babies. I am so grateful she knew of the blog and asked for the help to save their sweet little lives.
In the album there is also a story of about four of the doxies which Ann was invited to bring to a filming of a movie with Billy Crystal. There is a picture of the doxies in his lap that is wonderful. One of these was Hazel (now Daisy) which Sue G's mother-in-law (?) adopted. The picture is so cute, and Billy Crystal was very fond of all of them - but little Hazel was special to him! So Sue G, you have a celebrity in your family now.
Through the stories, poems, etc. by Ann, I was able to feel I knew this lady much better - and she was quite an amazing person. Debra and Donna go to visit her, and say she is doing pretty well in a nice place now. Isn't it amazing that the love for these little doxies brought such a close friendship between Debra, Donna, and Ann. Ann is indeed blessed to have this extended family to be there for her as well.
I will never forget the day I came home from work so depressed and discouraged (long story), and found that package from Debra. She definitely "lite up my life," and I will be forever grateful for her kindness in doing this. I had asked her to send me some of the pictures so I could do something like this, but instead she did it for me in such a grand way and surprised me for my birthday! Thank you Debra if you are out there reading this.
So very true, Kathleen and Mila, about what the Animal House blog represents to all of us!!
Happy Birthday, Kathleen!! I hope you have a wonderful day!!
I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Kathleen. May this year be blessed with good health and happiness. Did you have a birthday cake?
THANKS PAM AND SUSAN - I had a wonderful birthday. No cake, but went out to dinner at my favorite restaurant with my ex-husband. He also gave me a check for my birthday which was very sweet.
Talked to my sons, but have not seen them yet. Tonight is "twin night," so I am so looking forward to spending time with my newest two grandsons!
Picture Update from proud Grandma Kat:

Barbara Jean is still there, she said they will keep her until she has a day of stress-free breathing.
She had two recent episodes of asthma, brought on by the odor from pine or cedar bedding for the huge number of horses who suddenly came through the vetport. B-J's asthma is triggered by chemicals in the air such as pine, cedar, fresh road tar, etc. This is why she eventually had to leave her long term, full time job at Parrots of the World.
Both times the paramedics took her to nearby Franklin General Hospital ER where she said , they really did nothing for her and sent her home WITHOUT MEDICATION or even a prescription. There was no way I could have gotten her the inhalers, etc without a script.
I work for Franklin's Home Care and this doesn't surprise me , it's a generally crummy place with some excellent RN's if you're lucky enough to get them. I also didn't know about B-J's little ER adventures until she told me last weekend and asked if I could pick her up after work at the Vetport around 10 PM, She didn't look well at all. She was supposed to have gone to Nassau Country Medical Center clinic earlier in the week. She ended up in SNCH in Oceanside on Monday. South Nassau Communities is a better hospital, I think, than Franklin and maybe the huge county medical center. Our friend David put his O-C disorder to good use and called the hospital over and over, until she was finally seen by a social worker who is applying for a "hospital" medicaid which will take care of this bill and very likely also the two ER episodes and ambulance calls. Once B-J is released she is going to have to get regular community medicaid which will help her with medications and any future ER or hospital costs. She tried to apply on her own twice and said they rejected her app because of errors or whatever. I offered to help her fill one out, I guess I have to get more pesty about it . Hopefully she will have a small nebulizer unit at home to give herself treatments. I'm probably going to see her this weekend again if she is still in there..
Kathleen, those 2 babies are absolutely precious. They look so happy and healthy. How lucky they are to have you for their grandmother.
I was so sorry to read about the rape in your past. I had similar experiences in my past. It does help to know that other women understand the effect traumatic experiences have on a person.
And we become stronger in spite of them.
SUSAN - Thanks, I think those twins are pretty cute too. Luke was really smiling for grandma last night. He had been fussy all afternoon, and when I got there his mother told on him. So I kept teasing him saying, "Is grandma kat going to have to give your little padded booty a hard pat." He just laughed and laughed at me. I would have laughed at me too since I have NEVER spanked either of my sons, and will not be starting with my grandchildren either. They always received some very serious talking to and had privileges taken away when they were out of line instead. Selena said she was going to call me next time to talk to him on the cell phone!
It took me several months and many, many horrible dreams before a male friend of mine from work insisted on going with me to the rape crisis center for counseling. One session later and this lady telling me how to deal with the dreams and get through it all, and within a month the dreams were gone and I have been okay since then. I live by myself and sleep very well too. Anyone who knows someone going through this, please take them for counseling at a rape crisis center. It is the best thing you can do for them as a friend, and they will have a much healthier and happy life when they go and are able to finally say out loud, "I was raped." It also allows them to be able to help others who cannot deal with this as well. This one visit helped me to turn something very upsetting into something very positive where I could help others.
