At around 3:30 this afternoon, some heartless creep abandoned 2 tiny chiuahuas on Southern State Parkway between exits 42 and 43. (State police said someone reported the guys license plate, hopefully he'll be arrested!). The dogs were last seen running on the west bound side of the parkway by the courthouse. Please keep your eyes open for these defenseless babies, Parkway Police and Islip animal control responded, but the dogs ran away. My neighbor got close to them, they are approachable, just got spooked . Even if they go to the town shelter, they should be adoptable so please if you see them, call the police or town shelter. They wont last long stuck on the side of the parkway. Thank you >>

That is so sad!!! I hope those little guys are found safe! :( It never ceases to amaze me what people will do.

OH NO! DENISE, PLEASE LET US KNOW WHEN THESE LITTLE CHI'S ARE FOUND AND SAFE???
This is too terrifying. Sitting here crying and praying that someone will be able to nab them and get them to safety.

Once again ,defenseless animals are the victims of some Human?being. I pray these babies are caught and safe. May the creep get what's coming to him.

That is so sad. What is wrong with people.

Any news on the chiuahuas?

people are so stupid sometimes..

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. B-J, I hope the next whippets you see are Vivi and the fawn baby. They couldn't pick a more compassionate person.
Any news on those poor Chi's? How could someone be so heartless?

The Chi's were picked up by a state trooper that night and brought to the Islip town Shelter. The were puppies. Nancy and I went to search this morning and then went to the tropper L station and they had a report. We almost got arrested for trespassing on Federal Property by going to the lake on the Federal Court House property. He was pointing at my dog Maureen and saying no dogs allowed as if that were worse. Have to run to work soon. Maybe Nancy will elaborate. Just wanted you all to know the Chi's are safe. The shelter is closed today so we will ask Joeanne to check out if they have been adopted yet.

This is fantastic news about these chi babies!!! My heart is singing!!
Thank you so much B-J and Nancy and Maureen doggie for looking for them and letting us know that they are safe! Please keep us posted on them and how they are doing if you would!!!

I am HOPING that the trooper scooped the puppies up and adopted them outright . Since I got home this afternoon, I was told by my shelter contact that they never received these puppies. I telephoned the State Police barracks about an hour agoand tactfully reported this. They are sticking by their report that 2 Chi puppies were picked up by a trooper and reported taken to the town of Islip shelter. Supposedly the ASPCA went to the house attached to the license plate, but no more info is available about what was done to the creep. One thing I'm sure of is that this happened last Sunday late afternoon, at that time a woman tried unsuccesfully to get them and that the troopers at that time knew about the dog. I emailed the woman who wrote the craigslist report and got an answer from her substantiating the whole story, she is a dog person and seems very credible. This has been an emotional roller coaster and reinforces what I have suspected for several years now, probably 99% of what we think we really know as fact. . . .isn't. Oh, and the person at the State Police told me that supposedly his own dog was in the Islip shelter and he found his dog there after he was told on the phone that it definitely wasn't. B-J tells me this is a pretty good shelter, I believe that the dogs and puppies rescued by Team Vivi from the hoarder a while back were taken there. They have been totally overwhelmed this week with abandoned puppies and 20 dogs rescued in some sort of raid.

I'm re-reading everything and I think it's possible these tiny ones could have slipped under the radar - brought in prob Monday AM and adopted out very fast, maybe the overwhelmed new shelter director wasn't aware of them. If it's ANYTHING like the Brooklyn CACC this is very likely.

From all the communication I am sure the police report can not be disputed and yes the shelter workers are not all that reliable and why it is always strongly suggested that you go to the shelters daily to check out the dogs if you have one missing and I would think that goes for intake from police also. This is why Bonnie goes to the CACC in Brooklyn on a daily basis on Vivi. Iam just glad they were picked up and I have to believe they went fast as puppies do and some are not aware they were even there unless they go over all those days records.

Whe we picked up Suzie there was a puppy Shih Tzu that just came in and went out while we were there. And when we were at JFK hunting Vivi 5 Italian Greyhound came in one night and they were all gone by the next day. So the fact they are not at the shelter doesn't bother me too much. And they are over whelmed with many new arrivals this week with a new director/manager so yes Nancy I beleive that's just what happened.

Another thing is the shelters call rescues to get the pups out immediatley as they are too vulnerable to ddisease and need special care. More than likely they were sent right out to a rescue that night.

The 8 pups That we rescued at BaiselyBlvd went into CACC in Brooklyn after 5pm and they called Sean and he had them that very night.

When we called about them as we were goingto bail them out through Bobbi and the strays they explained they try to get the pups out for the reasons above and had called Sean as he is on call also. And they all got adopted. Monica'sfriend adopted Tom and Venus now Bubba and oops forgot Venus's new name. So I think this is probably what happened and they are in the care of a rescue at least.

B-J, thanks for keeping us up to date on the Chi's and how the shelters and rescues can get the puppies in and out quickly. It was reassuring to read that Bonnie checks the CACC in Brooklyn daily for our Vivi. All of you in the Weenie Crew have inspired me to do what I can for our furry friends. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Yes CACC truely has been trying to save as many dogs and cats as possible also. They have a group called Last Hope who list the various rescues who are called about the available dogs and either take them directly or send their various fostering network to get them under their rescues ID. It's not the answer for all and euthanasia is still happening as the influx is still just too much to save them all. So we have to keep trying to get legislation passed on ending puppy mills and selling puppies and kittens in pet shop. Continued encouragment for pet shops to work with the shelters and rescues to find homes for shelter and rescued dogs.

I have not seen Dawn in a while. She is the 10 year old 50 pound white with fawn whippet that lives a few blocks from me. The Vivi hotline had been called at least twice with Dawn being the dog that was reported as Vivi in Valley Stream.

While walking Freckles yesterday we met Dawn and her owners. Something was not right although Dawn seemed bright and healthy as ever. When she turned so I could see her left side I saw what was not right.

Dawn had had her left hind leg amputated due to cancer which didn't help as the Vets gave her 6 months to live. She is totally healed so it's been a while and she may only have a month left. Her family loves her to pieces and you always knew it is a deep love the way they speak of her so this is very hard on them.

I told them I would p[ost for prayers for her continued quality of life, strength for the family and the Lord willing some extra time for Dawn and her family.

They were gratefuland touched. I know you will all keep this girl in your prayers and I thank you.
