... the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
No surprise, then, that there has been a dustup over the Boston Globe's rehash of a trip Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney took more than two decades ago, when he tied his Irish setter's crate to the top of his station wagon for a 12-hour trip from Boston to the family lake house in Ontario. (The punchline -- for the former Massachusetts governor, anyway -- came when Seamus had a housebreaking faux pas and he had to pull over for a scrub down of both car and dog -- what the paper called a preview of that great leadership skill, "emotion-free crisis management.")
"Mitt Romney: Dog Torturer!" howled one partisan blog. "Romney's Cruel Canine Adventure," intoned Time, evoking Chevy Chase in "National Lampoon's Vacation" and, noting that the elevated accommodations were not only windy, and terrifying, but probably illegal in light of state animal-cruelty statutes.
The Los Angeles Times used this as an opportunity to catalog other egregious animal acts by national politicos past and present. Give it a read, and let me know if you'd ever let former Senate Majority leader Bill Frist near your kitty cat.

Frist and Romney. Both Republicans. Both idiots.Need anyone say more?
I remember President Johnson pulling his beagles' ears on camera and saying that it didn't hurt Him or Her(the dogs' names) even though you could see the dogs yelp. Both parties have had their characters.
Hope everyone is well. It's so quiet on the blog. What we need is some good news about our lost pets.

Lovely. Thank you Michael.
Thank you Susan. Both parties indeed have had their "characters". It saddens me to see blatant partisanship on this blog ,one place where I haven't seen it before.
Your welcome, Nancy. Partisonship has no place here when there is so much work to be done on behalf of our pets who are sick, in danger, and lost. Hoping we get good news very soon about our canine girl and the other lost babies.
Ahhhh..so refreshing to know that newsday hasn't lost it's stunning political partisanship. The beloved former president's dog Buddy was neglected and unloved by his "official" owners.Buddy was 'arm candy' and that's all(just as the Bible was his only friend during his dark times). To make it a political point in this column is beneath Denise(or so I thought)
to respond to Democrat from Day One..
How enlightning, charismatic and just dog gone original of you!

Might I take a moment and say, from the bottom of my heart....Thank God for all you wonderful people -you all restore faith in the human heart and spirit. Every day on the news I see and hear about animal cruelty and it sickens me... but when I think of all of you wonderful people searching tirelessly for Vivi and helping other lost and abused animals it renews my soul. I finally just got a computer after many months of "sneaking" to view this blog at work, to see what news had come of the search for Vivi... ALL of you have worked SO hard, I know there will be a good outcome to all of this... I pray for each and every one of you every day - you've cemented your places in heaven - you're the kind of people who create heaven on earth !!! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU !!!
Hi Patti,
Thanks for your uplifing post and congradulations on getting your computer. Giving up isn't an option when lives of precious animals are at stake. It's nice to hear from you.
Patti - It has been a long and rough day, but you just renewed my hope and strength with your sweet post. Thank you so much.
Welcome aboard, and be sure and join in more now that you have a computer of your own!
Kathleen and the Memphis Mob
I should use spell check more often. I meant uplifting. Patti, we're glad you're on here.
Thank you for the words of encouragement for Vivi it has been a long 15 months this Sunday, girls can you believe it. We have all been thru alot this past year because of one little girl and it breaks my heart and still makes me cry to this day that we do not have her. Us people on foot are still thinking of things to do for her and we have not given up and probably never will. Beacuse of her we have all saved countless animals and are still saving them to this day, who knew we all had it in us to rescue animals, not bad for a bunch of people who knew nothing about rescue. Thanks again for the kind words Patti it's nice to hear when we feel like we cannot go on at times.
You girls just make me cry you're so unselfish and caring....you're teaching us all lessons that we should live by every day....you've shown us by your efforts what life is meant to be ...and how we should all be... we should all strive to be like you. Please don't thank me.... you're all God sends and I THANK YOU !!!! :)
Debbie - That is EXACTLY how I feel also. It often really stressed me and upset me when I felt I could do nothing for animals any longer. With my arthritis and the pain, I knew I was not an asset to work in a rescue or shelter and help. Because of my health issues and the financial burden, I do not have a lot of money to help either. But Vivi and her journey, God bless her, and all the people I met on this blog, showed me another way to help these babies once again through the internet and network of animal lovers I have made along the way. I could NEVER tell anyone how much joy this has put back into my life. It is my love, my goal, and my passion now, just as it has become with so many of us on this blog.
I had an incredible experience this week once again. I have been attending a medical seminar for my certification as a research associate. At this seminar I met the most incredible young man from Philadelphia, PA. He was attending the seminar, and overheard me talking to my friend Lennie about another dog rescue. We started talking, and he is an avid greyhound rescue person. He was about the age of my younger son, and we immediately bonded. We had so much fun talking about animals and animal rescues on all our lunches, breaks, after the seminar, etc. Today was the last day, but he insisted that I stay at The Peabody Lobby with him after the seminar to see The Peabody Ducks march out to their Penthouse at 5:00 pm. I'll post the link for The Peabody for those who do not know about this historic old hotel.
We had a wonderful dessert, a glass of wine, watched the ducks and talked until it was time for him to leave for the airport. He was about to ask for a taxi to be called, but I told him absolutely not - I would drive him there. So we had fun talking all the way to the airport, and until his flight was about to leave.
We agreed to keep in touch by e-mails, and I told him I might be calling him if we have a greyhound to rescue in that area. He said he would love that.
So see, animal-loving people can bond in the most unusual places and most unusual ways. Just look at our Weenie crew - friends for life now for sure. My friend Lennie was really laughing. She told me, "There are so many cute young ladies at this seminar, and he spent his entire time talking to an old 55-year-old woman - ME OF COURSE." Told her that was the animal-lover in him that drew him to me.
Bless the beasts and the children, for in this world they have no voice - they have no choice. But they do, and that voice and choice is because of US!

DEBBIE: Vivi went missing for at least 17 months, not 15. If you makes a mistake, then that's OK!
I did just thinking about Vivi and then count of the months she went missing...it is 17 months on sunday.
I hope you're not offending by me! :-)
...And it just make me thinking of something else, I think maybe there are many homeless people who might have picked up Vivi? And have her to go underground-type?? Who knows where Vivi is exactly!
DEBBIE, my little MINION...Cantcha count lovie? It will be, as Paula pointed out, 17 months that our sweet Vivi has been gone....Your job, find the little girl, we need to know she's safe!
Thanks to all of you who prayed and lit candles for my Sweet Satchel Whippet, he is home and except for licking his shaved leg and being hungry all the time, well and being loved by his ma and his wicked sister, Lilly Pearl. I love you guys a LOT!ty, ty, ty from the bottom of my heart. He is my sunshine!
Such wonderful news about Satchel. Tell that wicked sister Lilly Pearl to be nice to the boy please!
Paual and Ma I realized I made a mistake on how many months Vivi has been missing after I wrote it duh where was my head, not offended at all Paula, I cannot believe how long it has been i was at Monicas last night and was talking to Lois earlier and we were thinking of places we can put out some flyers. Our scenario was that if the flyers are down and it has been a few months she could have popped out and noone realized it was her so if we refresh them maybe someone will realize that's the dog we saw since it is nice out now. Our wheels are always turning here. Between Vivi and all the animals being saved it has been very time consuming but well worth it and the Weenies have formed such a bond that is surreal, it feels like we have known each other our whole lives.
We just talked about the day we met each other and where we went to post flyers or search to almost the exact day. Darlene could tell you I met her in the back of the airport about 4:15 in the afternoon and we searched and exchanged numbers and emails after 30 minutes and have been a team ever since. They call us the sisters seperated at birth. We don;t even have to talk we just look at each other and know what the other is thinking, pretty scarey hehe. It is time for Vivi to show so we know where to go and get her finally. That my friends will be the greatest rescue ever and the one we are determined to have saved.
Ma so glad Satchel is eating like he should, put that sock on him if he keeps it up with the biting or tell him the Minion will come out there. LOL
I agree, Debbie. I have complete faith that you and the other weenie gals will find Vivi. You are the Animal Planet heroes to us. And that celebration will be from coast to coast.
Susan we are not the Animal Planet heroes, if she is found everyone on here is the hero for everything they have done for her, and yes it will be a coast to coast celebration, but I think by the time we all get to her new farm we will be a little tipsy, hehe. Always praying for that miracle and some dogs have been found after years let's hope it does not take that long. She is a very clever little girl as most women are. LOL
That's true, Debbie. I don't drink but when she's found, I will be ready for the bubbly stuff.
I've been posting by bike. It gets me there faster and home faster. I really think we should be putting up the Vet flyers now. It just might make a difference since her other side is so different. If anyone is up to making some up I have plastic sleeves to put them in. I posted a link to her web page with the flyer. Thanks:) I've anted to post many times but there's nothing to say except the search goes on and no leads. Just staying positive and praying for Vivi's safe return soon.
Ruby glad to hear Satchel is home and mending.:)
Thanks again for everyones well wishes for my boy, Satchel. He's doing very well, you'd never know that he was sick! I know the prayers did the trick. I'm watching him like a hawk and still lighting candles for his continued good health.
B.J...you are amazing. I bought a bike, put 4 miles on it, gave it to a friend........My biking days are over, I'm a total chicken when it comes to climbing on one anymore...I'm sure 3 miles of the 4 were put on by my daughter......
Keep searching and putting up flyers guys...I feel sure our Vivi is still around, someplace. Possibly in someones home, snickering at us........I hope so anyway..
GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYBODY!!
Roooby: glad your baby Satchel is feeling better!
My golden dog, Sadie is feeling better also, a couple weeks ago she went to the vet and found out she had the bladder infections so she got her shots and the pills, right now she's acting herself again!
VIVI ???????? I just googled in Found Whippets then clicked on the first one Petville.com. There was a post from Tina saying a female Whippet was found in Woodbury, NY ( near Long Island) this past April and she wondered if we were still looking for Vivi. She said it's on petfinders but I couldn't find it. Could someone PLEASE check it out. it may not be anything but we'll never know if we don't follow up. I'm not as great on the computer as some of you are. Thanks.
MARGOT: I did checked it what you provided and I can't find it anything new. It was old clippings on Vivi. I'm not sure if it is true about the "found whippets" this past April. I don't see it there.
Maybe someone will know.
PAULA:You have to google in "Found Whippets" then click on the the first sight which is Petville.com. scroll down past the post on Vivi and you will see a post by Tina. Just read that one. it was posted in April so it's only 3 mos. old.
Sorry to say the ads been checked out and it's NOT our girl.
Hello everyone... been a long time since I posted only because I don't have a computer anymore. I moved out of my house and broke up with my boyfriend of 12 years in April... I had to literally start all over so a computer is coming, hopefuly soon. I just wanted to say hello to all and I'm keeping the faith as always... :)
MARGOT: I did read that part in the googled ones. Like I said I don't know if it is Vivi or if anyone already found her. If they did, I'm sure Bonnie or someone will post it 3 months ago.
Welcome back Chrissy. It's good to hear from you.
Chrissy, glad to see your post. I'm thinking of our canine girl today and praying this summer brings the news we all want. I know it will happen, just have to be patient. It's good to read that people are thinking of her when they see found whippets.
Good Morning everyone, the blog is upbeat today about our Vivi. Still praying that she will be found
this summer. I don't post much anymore but I think of you all so often and hope all is well
Ruby- what happened with Satchel???
Good Morning, I just read a story about a baby black panther in Belgrade, Serbia that has been adopted by a mother Rhodesian Ridgeback after it was rejected by its mother at the zoo. Apparently, the mother panther has rejected and killed her babies before so this little girl is lucky to have a new mama and siblings. Denise, your doggies should be proud of their relatives. What an uplifting story to start the day with.
Hi Sue G, great to read you post. Vivi is out there somewhere. Giving up isn't a vocabulary word.

SueG,
Satchel wasn't feeling well last Monday. I took him to his vet, they did blood work, found his liver reading very high and an xray showed a "shadow" in his stomach. After fluids and antibiotics, everything went back to normal. The vet thought perhaps Satchel ate some "toxin"...I found nothing and since he's always indoors or I'm outdoors with him, I didn't think that possible, until Saturday a.m....I found 3 large mushrooms growing in the lawn and one on Sunday..I'm on mushroom patrol now...
Thank you for asking. He came home after an overnight stay at the vets...I was worried sick of course, but all is well now!
Well, Rooby, it looks like you might have found the cause of Satchel's problems. Keep a diligent patrol on those mushrooms!!
Hey Ruby,
I started getting mushrooms in my yard and my gardener said it's because I'm watering too much. So I cut back on watering and I haven't noticed mushrooms in a long time. Glad to here Satchel is better.
Pam,
Mushroom Omlette tonight at my house, be there! Be on time! heh heh...
Marty,
Strange this is, it's hot here and although I water, I don't over water...I've seen this same type mushroom grow in my gorilla hair bark that gets little or no water. Could be water in one particular area tho. I'll just watch every day. These mushrooms were 3 to 4 inches across...In the Winter, I have tons of small
ones and I do a walk around and pick them every day they show up.
Ruby so glad to hear he is doing well. A. little update on Fiona the wild child,, we have decided to
spay t he wild woman, since she came into heat about 2 months ago, she has c hanged and is not\
the same dog, she has become barky with other dogs
and barks at dogs walking the neighborhood, She is very pretty but I have decided that I do not want
too many little Fiona's running about. She is a weird little whippet. I will never rehome her because that is not an option with me, but she is
a handful,
We love her, but if she was in a inexperienced whippet home, she would be in a shelter in a heartbeat. have had greyhounds and whippets for
almost 13 years, but she tests the boundarys for
the breed !!! But I love her and she is mine and I will stick it out forever
Everyone who posts to this site obviously loves dogs.... breed doesn’t matter to me. Pure bread or a mutt. Fat, skinny, tall, short, ornery, shy, temperamental... Doesn’t matter to me.
I recently found out that Michael Vicks of the Atlanta Falcons is being investigated for having dog fights in his Virginia home. Approximately three dozen carcuses of dogs were found on his property, along with 60 live pit bulls who were malnourished, scarred, and injured.
Now here’s a man who has been given an opportunity that only exists as a dream for most kids: to be a multi million dollar quarterback with the NFL. Instead of setting a good example, he has become an undeserving monster – someone that I certainly wouldn't want my child to look up to.
Vicks endorsees Nike, Air Tran Airways, EA Sports, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Kraft, Rawlings, and Hasbro. If you are one to take action (like me), I ask that you write to these companies and tell them that Michael Vicks of the Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t have the privilege to endorse such reputable companies. If you don’t have time to write a short note, then, as a friend, please think twice before you purchase their products.
If you have reservation because dog fighting only pertains to pit bulls, remember two things:
1) Pit bulls aren’t the only breed involved. Dog fighting can include all types of dogs – and even cats. 2) Blame the deed, not the breed.
Dog fighting is not only a problem of cruelty to animals; dog fighting is also part of a criminal subculture that can involve gang activity, drug use, and drug dealing, and it contributes to the destruction of neighborhoods. In addition, it’s a fact that those that can be cruel to an animal are likely to hurt a human being down the road.
Vicks should be removed from the NFL – there’s so many other talented folks out there who would appreciate the value of life so much more than this heartless, gutless creature who considers himself a man.
Can you tell I love animals!
Thanks for your support.
Susie
Susan it is a common fact that here in NY drug dealers have pitbulls used for fighting, in Bed Sty right across from a police station the in the park they fight pits on the weekends early in the morning, cope were all told and not much gets done.
I have signed everything that has come my way re: this moron Vick and gave them a piece of my mind, we just had a pit that was tied to a tree and doused with gas last Thursday, the poor baby lost his fight today and had puncture wounds on his neck to boot, $1000.00 reward, if I found the jerk I would pay them $1000.00 to have my way with them for 10 minutes and a can of gas.
Debbie, that poor pit baby. May he be loved and pain free forever at the Rainbow Bridge. I'm in line after you with those scumbags and pay the reward money also.

Matthew 10:42
Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water...he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Good morning Daddy God. We come before you with humble hearts of love. We are heartbroken from having to face the evil of this world. We ask for your comfort. But scattered amidst the evil, is the light of your faithful children. We are a light in the darkness, serving, holding, warming, cuddleing and doing our best to care for your creatures. We know you were speaking of the little children when you spoke this verse. But Daddy, we also know how you love your precious little fur ones also. We have seen your glorious acts in their behalf as you have miraculously saved them and brought them into the presence of your children for shelter and love. Our light shines for you Daddy God. Among the darkness the light is seen as each of us walk the pathway you have sent us to travel. Rescueing the weak, the hungry, the lonely, the frightened, and the wounded. We give water, food, shelter, gentle caresses, soft kisses and kind words to those you have brought our way. We long to fulfill the command in the garden of Eden, to care for, and to nurture your creation. We gather together each and every day Daddy God to do your will. To do your command to hold, love, save and restore your creation. Help us Daddy. Help us to move ever forward in the battle that has been set before us and to restore love, faith and life to your helpless, lost and abused. Bring our beloved Vivi home to us safe and sound Daddy. We love you and we will not be moved in our never ending faith in you. We devote our lives and our hearts to you and your Holy Son Jesus, our Lord, our Redeemer, and our beloved brother. Comfort Kathleen's heart in the loss of her beloved Aunt, and welcome her aunt into your kingdom of ultimate Glory. In Jesus's Name, we pray and we bring all of our loved ones to you in faith and in expectation of your glory. We praise you!!!

Fill our lives with your glory as we work and watch for your Son Jesus, our Savior. Flood this earth with your glory and power for all to see. Bring Vivi home Daddy God. Let this be the day Daddy God....Let this be the day INDEED...In Jesus's Name we pray....Amen
The world has tried to extinguish the light of God for all time, but the light of God will only grow brighter within each person who steps forward and says no to evil...
Betty - Thank you so much for your prayer for me last night. This has been one of the hardest things I have encountered in a long time it seems. I think it is the combination of my Aunt Janie being such a bundle of life, it is hard to believe she is gone. And also, of course, this was my last link with my grandmother's original family (our legacy) gone.
I will always have their wonderful stories, love and memories to carry me through though. Thank you again.
PLEASE go to the following site for the HSUS to get rid of Michael Vick! (All my friends are saying site is busy - so people are responding!)

My letter was as follows:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
280 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10017
Dear Commissioner Goodell,
Please immediately suspend Michael Vick from the NFL for his alleged involvement in dogfighting. Vick's recent indictment by a federal grand jury for crimes related to dogfighting is a certain sign that you must treat this matter seriously. Reports of extreme cruelty to dogs who didn't "perform" to the fighters' satisfaction only add to the disgrace Vick brings to the NFL.
I read the Falcons release pertaining to Michael Vick and how they will continue to support players and coaches. What about the three dozen carcuses of dogs that were found on his property and the 60 live dogs who were malnourished, scarred, and injured. Where's their support? What about the innocent
creatures that don't have a say.
Yes, I understand Vick is claiming it's not "him"... but I find it very hard to believe someone doesn't know what's going on in their own home (especially something so horrific as this!).
Now here's a man who has been given an opportunity that only exists as a dream for most kids: to be a multi million dollar quarterback with the NFL. Instead of setting a good example, he has become an undeserving monster... someone that I certainly
wouldn't want my child to look up to. I often find myself asking, what happened to the true sports hero... the Michael Jordans and Walter Paytons of the world?!?!
Michael Vick shouldn't have the privilege to be part of the NFL, nor should he have the honor to endorse any sort of reputable company... There are so many other talented folks out there who would appreciate the value of life so much more than this heartless, gutless creature who considers himself a man.
Bottom line: As a human being, think about what this man has done and what he's capable of. Is this the type of person you want your children to look up to? You know as well I that he had involvement.
Get rid of him and let someone more deserving carry the honor!
