From the Internet comes this sad tale of a teeny Italian greyhound lost in the county of kings:
<<We lost our dog on Sunday 7/15/07 in Brooklyn, in the vicinity of Flatbush and Lenox. Some people said they saw her on Ocean Ave and Regent and E 21st. She is an Italian Greyhound, medium size. We live in NJ, she has never been in the city. Even in the suburb, she is shy, timid and afraid of people, specially scary of loud noise.
Unfortunately, we were out of town a couple of days and our friend brought her to Brooklyn and she got lost right away. I know she was taken outside and was afraid of seeing so many people on the street and noise of the cars/trucks, and she went off leash, her leash has her name tag, so she is out on the street without a name tag.
We love our dog, she is like a daughter, sister to us. She is a sweet girl, beautiful dog. We are devastated. Please help me find her home. I know she is still in the area of around Lenox / Flatbush/Ocean ave/Regent..
I have travelled to Brooklyn in the last three days from dawn to dusk, looking all around and calling out her name, but could not find her.
We just got back home to get a bite to eat. I will go back to the Brooklyn streets tomorrow, but I don't see where she could hide, there is no grass areas, and a thousands people on the street
walking, talking..she would she be, a scary little greyhound.
I placed [posters with her picture] all over the streets, but i found people there take them off, so I put up new add everyday, but I have to go to work on Monday and won't be able to travel to Brooklyn until 6PM. I am so hopeless, desparate, my heart broken, could not eat, sleep, think of her and how much she must be so scare.. on the street.
Please help me network out to find Gracie and to bring her home. I also offer a monetary reward. I will help you save your dogs, I promise. PLEASE HELP ME SEARCHING FOR HER AND BRING HER HOME.
Thank you so very much,
Theresa

Denise - I just left a message for Theresa that I would be happy to make up a flyer and e-mail all the businesses I could search in these areas with the flyer.
When I get the flyer made up, I will post a copy for anyone who also wishes to help on my Photobucket account.
Need to find poor Iggy soon.
If there is need for snail mail, let me know. I can send out information that way.
Please keep us posted here in the Midwest. God's looking over her... I promise.
Has Theresa posted Gracie on any of the lost pet websites? If anyone talks to her, it might help to mention this avenue to her. It can't hurt.
I found Gracie on dogdetective.
Lord, I am praying she is found soon. I have been doing internet searches all afternoon:

Could someone send me a flyer of Gracie please
I just noticed Kathleen's comment. I have the flyer now. Could anyone tell me if the vets and animal hospitals have been faxed yet. If not, I can fax them tomorrow.
Good Morning Gang!!!! I know it's been a LONG TIME since I posted anything, but I couldn't hold back on this one -- THEY CAUGHT THE SOB THAT TORTURED AND KILLED MAXIMUS!!!!!!!! It seems the creep was stopped on a routine traffic matter, and the police determined that he was Maximus' owner and killer. Let's hope they throw the book at this bastard!!!!! It's time to make people realize that animal cruelty WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!!
Oh, and btw, please do not send Jose my way, Marther!!! He's not pining for me - he misses the warmth and comfort of Debbie's trunk!!
Congrats on your new additions, Kathleen!! Sophie is adorable!!
Good job KATHLEEN: Just a thought, but maybe Bobbi and the Strays can help.I think that's the area Ashley's dog was lost. I fear for this little IG with the dog fighters in that area. I can call some shelters in Brooklyn if someone posts the numbers
They caught the slime that tortured poor Maximus???
Hooray!!!!!!!
Theresa,
I am so sorry to hear about Gracie, if I lived in the area, I would be helping you search. I am praying that you find her SOON. We have two IGs and I know how heartbroken I would be if we were to lose one. Please know your family and Gracie are in my thoughts and prayers. My heart breaks for you.
Lynn
I just spoke to Theresa the owner of the IG. and she has no one to help her post and is doing it all herself. This is what she told me. A woman called her and told her that she picked up an IG in Flatbush whose pads were bleeding and took her to a vet and paid him $350. to fix the dog up. She couldn't keep the dog and gave her to a student at Brooklyn College ???? Teresa is in contact with this woman but at this point I was getting confused as she speaks with a chineese or Korean accent. I told her to call Bobbi and the Strays and see if she can help her. She's a very nice person and is so sad. Maybe some one in the area can call her and give her a hand posting. She has Gracie on all the Lost and found lists and is taking a week off work to continue posting. I hope someone can help her. Thanks.
I faxed a flyer to every vet in Brooklyn so if it is true and someone did take Gracie into the vet then hopefully someone will remember and call the number on the flyer. Fingers crossed. I also included ViVi's flyer. We can't forget about our girl.
hey - Kathlee, i went into the photobucket and the pic is tiny. any way of getting a big one? yes, i am stupid. John's firehouse is in East Flatbush - n ot far at all from Flatbuch and Lenox. also, Junior's Cheesecake is HUGE over there. maybe someone who has the flyer already can fax one or mail one to them? they get ALOT of customers. i will help as much as i can too!!!!!
she did put a lost and found ad in the NY City edition of Newsday? don't think the Long Island one is necessary. Margot - Bonnie knows about this woman and the college student? Bobbi is VERY hard to get a hold of. Bonnie would be your best bet to ask - and she works in Brooklyn :) please let Theresa know about Bonnie. if you email me, i will give you Bonnie email addy. and Theresa can get a hold of her immediately.
Darlene - I sent a Word file to Marty last night. I will e-mail her and ask to send to you. Thanks for your help. I do not understand why the Photobucket is not working, but I had the same problem.
Hope Marty's flyers get some word on this baby. Thank you Marty for always helping and remembering our main little girl always too. God bless you.
Darlene,
I will email the flyer to you.
got it, my darlings :)

I wanted to share this article from Yahoo about VICK. A Source close to him say's that VICK thinks "This is all going to blow over". He really has no idea how sick and twisted this all is. THEN again why am I not surprised?? YOU must have to be completly souless for this NOT to be disturbing to you.

Wall of resistance
Wall of resistance

How Michael Vick reacts to the mandate from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to skip training camp could have an impact well beyond whether the embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback plays during the upcoming season.
Until Monday, when Goodell ordered Vick to stay away from the team's training camp while the league reviews the federal dogfighting charges against him, at least one person close to Vick felt he didn't fully grasp the ramifications of his circumstances.
"I wouldn't say he's delusional about the problem, but I don't think he sees it as being as big a deal as everybody else," the associate said. "He thinks it's going to blow over eventually … He doesn't know how deep this goes."
That's why Vick had been resisting attempts from the Falcons to accept a leave of absence to deal with his case, according to multiple sources. Vick will be arraigned Thursday and is expected to spend months fighting the charges. Serious preparation for that began Monday when Vick hired high-profile attorney Billy Martin.
Martin could play a key role in the aftermath of Goodell's punishment. "Hopefully (Martin) can convince (Vick) that playing right now isn't a good idea," the associate said. "If Michael is with the team, it's going to be a circus every day."
Or as an NFL Players Association source said, the media will consistently raise the questions: "How is Vick playing? Is he distracted? Did he meet with his lawyers? What do his teammate think? Are people protesting?"
Moreover, what will potential jurors think?
The idea that Vick can play this season if the trial is going on simultaneously is difficult enough to comprehend. But if jurors get the idea that Vick doesn't take his predicament seriously, the perception could be even worse.
"It's almost like he'd be thumbing his nose at the whole process," the NFLPA source said. "This is serious stuff. He's fighting for his freedom."
The NFLPA hopes Vick decides to stay away on his own because it will prevent a potentially sticky situation.
Goodell has stopped short of suspending Vick so far under the guidelines of the personal conduct policy because Vick is a first-time offender under those guidelines. While Vick has had his share of embarrassments in his career (the water bottle incident at Miami International Airport this offseason, flipping off the fans last season and the "Ron Mexico"/herpes situation), he doesn't have any convictions or arrests on his record.
According to a source, that means Goodell will have trouble making a suspension stick. Worse, it could put the union in the position of having to fight the league on Vick's behalf, a potential public relations nightmare.
Beyond that, any battle over the personal conduct policy could eventually impact the suspensions already given to Adam "Pacman" Jones, Chris Henry and Tank Johnson.
Bottom line, the entire Vick issue has numerous far-reaching tentacles.
"Everything about this case has to be carefully considered because of all the ramifications," an NFL source said. "The league has to be careful because we don't know that what we do will be part of the federal investigation. Every step has to be analyzed."
Of course, Vick could solve the problem by stepping away.
Such a decision also would save Falcons owner Arthur Blank a public relations disaster. At this stage, he faces criticism from all sides. On Monday, approximately 50 people from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested in front of team headquarters in Flowery Branch, Ga. PETA also picketed the NFL offices on Friday.
Yet, Blank acknowledged in a statement last week that "we must consider all of our customers in making any decisions," conceding that at least some ticket holders would prefer to see Vick play.
The NFL had patiently tried to convince Vick and/or Blank to take action since the indictment was announced July 17.
"Exasperated? Yeah, that's a pretty good way to describe how (the league) feels right now," said another league source. "I would say that (Goodell) is doing everything he can not to lose his cool, but his patience is running out right now. I think everybody with any common sense agrees that Vick can't be around the league right now and this thing can't keep going on much longer."
Or as a second league source said: "The commissioner has been waiting for the Falcons and Vick to do something. He's not waiting much longer."
That's why Goodell issued a release Monday night. The terms of the banishment were indefinite and it's obvious the league will have to strengthen the action to make it stick. That was implicit in a letter Goodell wrote to Vick.
"While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the Personal Conduct Policy," Goodell wrote.
OK - NOW I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE!!!!!! ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS LURKING, PLEASE CONTACT THE SPCA AND TELL THEM YOU ARE IN SUPPORT OF THEM NAILING THIS PIG'S BUTT TO THE WALL. THANK YOU!!!!!

PUPPY RESCUED
The Suffolk County SPCA announced today that it has rescued a six-month old Pit Bull puppy, named "Red" who was in need of serious veterinary care because of bite wounds to her eye. The puppy was owned by the subject who was charged with dousing his dog with chlorine bleach and gasoline then setting fire to it. The dog, named "Maximus" by his caregivers, died from his wounds a few days later.
Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA said that the puppy was kept at least 10 days with the bite wounds over her right eye without receiving proper veterinary care. The injury will need follow-up veterinary care and rehabilitation. "She is a loveable girl who loves to cuddle with her human friends," said Gross.
The Suffolk County SPCA is appealing to the public for financial help, support so that we may provide the necessary medical care for Red, and eventually adopt her to a loving family and new home. We are a private, nonprofit, charitable organization and the voice for animals in SuffolkCounty. We do not receive taxpayer or public funding and we must rely on the support and generosity of donors to exist.
Please help us to provide a better life for Red and to help us protect the other animals in Suffolk County. Donations can be mailed to: Suffolk County SPCA, 363 Rt. 111, Smithtown, NY11787 or by logging on to our website www.suffolkcountyspca.org.

Darlene,
Do I have this straight? THIS PUPPY RED is also owned and a Victim of the CREEP who KILLED MAXIMUS?
Did they do a search of his house? I am wondering how this poor dog Red was found? Did he admit to owning more dogs? Sorry for all the questions but I havent seen this on the news here.
yes, Rosa - she was!!!!!!! bucket of crap that he is. his excuse for Max was that he was "vicious"???? what the excuse for this? DOG FIGHTER IN TRAINING is what i am thinking. she is adorable and such a little girl. just beautiful :)
oh, sorry Rosa - i will email you the link i was sent. describes the basics.
I Jut got it thanks Darlene, I am so sick of all these SICK, CRUEL people. NOW this just goes to show that they have BIG FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR ROLE MODELS to go by!
THAT Is why this CREEP VICK needs to be made an example of.
DARLENE; Just got home and read your message on the blog. I have both of Bonnie's addys and I'll get in touch with her. I just got fax #'s from Jackie Levin for B'klyn College and will fax them and try to find this kevin person. Theresa spoke to the Vet who took care of the IG and he said it was definitely an IG. She also has contact with the woman who brought her to the vet, paid the bill and gave her away. DUH!!! Nitro, the Whippet lost in CA. has been reunited with her owner. I checked and she was a Red Brindle Whippet so I know she's not Vivi. She was found thru her home again Micro chip.
MARTY: Theresa has spoken to the Vet who treated an IG matching the description of Gracie. The problem is, the woman who found her brought her to the Vet and paid the bill then gave her to a student named Kevin.I'm trying to find this kevin person by faxing depts. at Brooklyn College where he claims to be a student. Here are 2 #'s for Theresa if anyone wants to talk to her. 908-433-6401, 732-317-2143
Margot - I wonder if you could contact the Admissions department and see if someone could try running a database list with a search of students who have the name Kevin in their name. If you explain this to them, maybe they could in turn e-mail those students through their system to see if one of them has Gracie. The reward would probably prompt them to return her I bet.
I'm sure they would not release the names to us, but I bet their could e-mail all students through the campus e-mail system.
Anyone have an email address for this lady?
That is a great idea, Kathleen! I was just looking at the Brooklyn College website "contact us" site, trying to figure out the best route to find this Kevin.
What did the lady who found the IG do with her after the vet treatment? Stop a student on the street and give the little dog away? Or does she know this student?
There is a BCWEBCENTRAL on the college website where news is posted-school alerts, school news etc. If an appeal was made to the school to place Gracies poster on the site with a note that a student named Kevin may have "adopted" her, maybe Kevin or a friend of his will see it and call?
I can't find whats being said about the I.G....do people think its the little lost one and someone gave it away? This happens sooooo often, thats why I get upset when someone finds a dog and say they are giving it to someone without first checking to see if the dog has a home already........
I.G.'s are mostly shy little things...I hope they find the people they "gave" it to and if its the right one, its returned to its owner...Makes me sad and sick.
Does anyone have a picture of this dog they could send me?
GAIL: I do not have an email for Theresa but I am going to call her now and see what happened today.
Gail
Did someone send you a picture? If not, I will send you one.
IMPORTANT UPDATE ON GRACIE******Just spoke to Theresa's son and Theresa found kevin and is meeting with him to see if the IG is Gracie. She will call or email me and let me know. Will post as soon as I hear something. Paws crossed.
Oh that is fantastic news. I'll be waiting for your update. Got my paws, toes, fingers, eyes, and everything else crossed for this poor baby.
KATHLEEN: I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear something. Theresa told me it's such a bad neighborhood that the police wouldn't let her search at night. This poor defenseless Gracie must be found . Will post soon as I hear.
I've heard that about Brooklyn also. That was where Ashley (Sniffles) lived and was lost. Poor baby. I sure hope this is her with Kevin.

Saint Francis Animal Sanctuary Inc. Located in Vermilion OH. We take
special needs animals from this side of the United States that would
have no chance of ever going to rescue or adoption. I have dogs with
cancer, mange, HW +, bacterial skin infections, epilepsy, I have a
dog that I had to have both eyes removed in May 07 his teeth were
filed down and he was headed to be a "bait dog" in New York for Pit
Bull fighting, I have 7 - 3 legged dogs, 2 - dogs in wheel chairs - a
litter of pups I received 12 hours old that were born on the cold
cement dog pound floor in Southern Ohio a few days ago. I received a
dog that only had the use of her 2 front legs and walked on her 2
front legs until we had a FHO ( femoral head osteotomy ) done. I not
only receive dogs from the pounds but also other rescue groups
contact me when they have dogs that are too much for them to handle.
I recently received a Boston Terrier with Mega Esophagus that has to
be medicated prior to each meal and she eats while standing in a mail
box that is attached to her kennel. She has to stay up right for an
hour after each meal. Her problem is so bad I have to mix "Thicket"
with her water to make it the consistency of pudding in order for her
to get hydration. I do not accept dogs by breed as I have a 230
pound Saint Bernard rescued from the dog pound who just had necessary
eye surgery so he could see again. I have a 5 1/2 pound Chihuahua
that just had 17 teeth pulled and had to fight a systemic infection
from the rotten teeth that almost killed him.
I could go on for ever... but I am asking you to please look at my
web site www.saintfrancisanimalsanctuary.org and Please make a
donation today. I have a dog that just had a sport of cancer removed
from her face and one more that has a grape fruit size tumor on his
leg that has to come off. I currently owe the vet thousands of
dollars and my plea is from the heart! Please help me to care from
these babies. I am not complaining about the amount of work I have
to do, this is my life's work and more then 50 dogs are cared for
here
at my home. I need some help right now. I have a PayPal button

Hey friends,
I apologize if this has already been posted but I thought I'd post it in case it wasn't:
K9AmberAlert] LOST Charlotte NC - Female Whippet
Maggie is a lady of a certain age (11) who spooked and bolted on July 18
from her home in Charlotte, NC. Maggie is white with fawn brindle markings
and was last seen leaving her kitchen on Queens Rd (the door, thought to
be
firmly closed, was not securely latched). There have been some
neighborhood
sightings but no recovery. All local vets have been notified and given a
photo of Maggie and REWARD posters placed. Maggie was wearing her collar
when she disappeared.
Maggie does have a microchip but the owner no longer has a record of the
number or the chipmaker. The chip was implanted by the breeder.
Unfortunately, the owner and breeder became separated over time and the
breeder's name and Kennel name are no longer remembered and Maggie's
papers
were put in that "safe" place we all have! However, I do have a recent
photo
and will be happy to forward it on request.

that went to live with Mark in Atlanta.

FROM KATHY - THE HORSES STILL NEED US************
TODAY'S STRATEGY WITH TALKING POINTS
1. Let your Senators know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently, but the the third (Cavel) has been allowed to resume slaughter operations. It is URGENT that we get this legislation passed to stop the slaughter in this country AND the transport of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.
2. Let your Senators know that their support isn't enough but we NEED the co-sponsors for S311 to get this to the floor for a vote. You can let them know you are aware there is a hold on the bill and they are the only ones that can help us move forward.
3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.
4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

Strategy for Thursday July 26
MEDIA BLITZ WEEK……MEDIA BLITZ WEEK!!
IMPORTANT
Due to the fact that we are waiting for some changes in strategy at any moment, we will not be posting lists today. We have been asked to wait for verification before we post any details. At the risk of seeming “secretive” we must honor that request.
Please understand and work with us.
We need everyone to be on “HIGH ALERT” and ready to jump into action very quickly. If this change of events should happen, WE WILL HAVE A VERY SMALL WINDOW OF TIME and will need an all out blitz with everyone involved. If this should take another direction, we will resume our lists tomorrow.
***Those of you who wish to make calls while we are waiting, please concentrate on the House and NOT the Senate this week. State leaders will be sending instructions to their groups also.***
Thank you for your patience and your dedication.
Hopefully, this will be a big week for us!!! Please check back on the site often on Thursday for updates.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- NASCAR racer and animal rights advocate Greg Biffle didn't mince any words when it comes to indicted quarterback Michael Vick: "I just wish they'd put him in jail and be done with it."
Biffle was asked about Vick during a promotional appearance Wednesday for next month's Nextel Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
Vick, the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback, was indicted last week on federal charges related to dogfighting operation he allegedly ran out of a home he owns in rural Virginia. If convicted, he could get up to six years in prison.
The founder of the Greg Biffle Foundation for Animals said Vick deserves the stiffest punishment possible.
"Just put him in prison and tell the general public, just give them all the details of what they do with those dogs," Biffle said. "How they steal people's dogs out of their front yards and use them for bait dogs and let other dogs kill them. There's all the horrifying stories. You look at all the pictures on the Internet of the dogs, just maimed, mangled. It's horrible."
Biffle's foundation donates to local Humane Societies, no-kill animal shelters, spay and neuter clinics and the Animal Adoption League. He hopes the Vick case will help stamp out the dogfighting underworld.
"It goes on everywhere. He's not the only guy. It goes on in this state too," Biffle said. "Maybe they'll use him as an example and maybe get some other people to think about whether they want to be in federal prison with him or not."

Nike is scum. Nike was hyping dog fighting in their 2003 Nike commercial, which animal advocates unavailingly urged Nike to pull. At 57 seconds you'll see a pitbull and Rottweiler facing off.

Psalm 139
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Father, Powerful Creator of all who live- the KTISIS the work of Your hands. No being can hide from You-- no lost animal, no homeless ones, none that are abused, and none that love You and praise You, and try to do Your work on earth. Neither can they hide who hurt or injure one of these.
Loving Maker of all we entreat You to watch over the lost and the homeless. (Vivi, Tiger, Gracie...see Betty's list or mention your own intentions.) Show them to the arms of someone who can help them to go home. Heal the sick ones. (Red, Spit, everyone on Betty's list, and your intentions.) Take the abused and dying into Your embrace and give them the peace only You can impart. (mention...)Bring justice to the abuser, and the abused. Be ever at the side of those who wish to show Your love to the world (Team Vivi,Team Gracie, the St. Francis Sanctuary workers,....)
Rejoice with us who are confident that You will hear our prayers. We believe;help our unbelief. Bring us all into Your kingdom.
We, animal and creature alike will sleep well knowing YOU are in charge. Amen
Thanks, Sharon... that was absolutely beautiful and so heartfelt....where are you in Michigan ? I'm in Traverse City.....
Patti,
I'm from near Port Huron. There is quite a Michigan contingent.
Thanks for those who wrote to ask about my Mom, she will be staying with me next week while my sister takes a much needed vacation. My family continues to appreciates your prayers. My kitty McGee remains on the list, --still on prednisone.
Along with needed care for my mom, I managed to fracture a tooth, which after much effort, still had to be removed. I'm using the loss to my advantage. There was a lot of crowding in my teeth--- so it looks like I may be joining my students wearing braces!
Just saw on Fox news about a dog they thought had acid poured on it. Turned out it was bitten by a brown recluse spider. They are warning all of Texas to watch their pets.
I hope for the sake of so many poor animals in this country the vicks animal abuse storie will not be forgotten. We as a nation need to finally say enough!Every vendor associated with this barbarism needs to be boycotted, starting with that trashie hip-hop music,Nike, and the NFL if they don't get rid of this punk vicks.Lets get this scum where it hurts in their pocketbooks. What kind of people would allow scum like him to live in their nieghborhood and associate with their children and family. He is no better than a child molester. Mary,W.Va.
I agree about Michael Vicks with all my heart. I watched Nancy Grace's show last night after getting home from work late. They told how these people are now taking their children (and grandchildren) to dogfighting. To dream I would ever take my two sons or my grandchildren to this repulsed me beyond words. I literally wanted to throw up at the thought! My God, what is wrong with your children - how very disappointed you must be in your children.
