Bunny rescuers are in an uproar over PetSmart's recent decision to start offering dwarf rabbits in some of their stores. The chain has had a long-standing policy of not selling puppies and kittens.
Though the rabbits will be spayed and neutered before sale, groups such as the House Rabbit Society contend that rabbit care is too nuanced for rabbits to be sold as an over-the-counter commodity.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, called the policy change a "sell-out to commercialism."
In recent years, individual PetsSmart stores have worked with local rescuers to place adoptable rescued bunnies through its stores.

The Petsmart we go to in Folsom California always has rabbits! I'm not sure if they are rescues or what, but I'll check it out on my next trip there. I know they also have kitty rescues on some days....Anything to make a buck for some of these stores...
Also:::I love the following Shaw quote:
If you cannot attain knowledge without torturing a dog, you must do without knowledge.
- George Bernard Shaw
HOW DO YOU SPELL IDIOT?
Michael Vick: "I have two great weapons my arms, my legs and my brains." ...'nuff said.
Repeat after me Michael Vick: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven...all good people go to heaven!
That lets you out huh?
PetSmart needs to continue to work at rehoming shelter rabbits, not encouraging greedy, inhumane breeders to add to the already huge numbers of bunnies who are now living lonely lives in Shelter all over the US, or who are condemned to miserable lives in unhappy and unhealthy homes because their owners weren't properly educated about houserabbit care. The annual "Easter Dump" (bunnies purchased at Easter who are now unwanted) has filled shelters to the breaking point - and now PetSmart wants to become part of the problem!
Did PetSmart but realise it, they have alienated thousands of people who share their homes with companion rabbits!
I had a Dwarf Netherlands bun for 8 years...We called him Eddie Rabbit after the singer......Sweet little guy, house broken...He lived in my bird room and always went to his cage to do his rabbit doodies.
People buy them, then your right C...they dump them. It's no different than dogs and cats tho, they are purchased and then dumped when the don't "work out" and I don't mean in the gym...
