Barbaro Lives

If you haven't already, you might want to check out the beautifully written ESPN piece on "The Church of Barbaro." Vivi, in many respects, was the canine version of this inspirational thoroughbred.

Vivi IS, not was the canine version...I firmly believe we will find her! My opinon. ( 0;

ROOOOOBY - you are so right - Vivi will be found - and soon.

This article is wonderful - get the kleenex. Finally a spot for all my horse stuff :)

Horse stuff? haaaaaaaaa...I love it! This would be a good place except when you post on the other blogs, more people might read it rather than coming in here.

where is this greyhound mix missing from -what state??

OOOPS - now I see - Long Island, NY -

ok weenies.......there you go - look for a long legged, long nosed pup!!!

I JUST LOOKED IT UP kATHY:
"The area code 631 is used in the state of New York in eastern Long Island exclusively for Suffolk County."

I hate how newly adopted dogs get out so much, but of course if this was a burglery, I can understand it, they probably wanted her out of the house. Poor baby.

Hey Roobie, the weenies will be in Suffolk tomorrow for something regarding Duke, wish we knew what town this was in so we could keep our eyes open. Suffolk is big. It could be all the way out to the Hamptons which is a 2 hour ride or Huntington which is a 20 minute ride gggrrr. I called the office but it is closed, double ggrrrr

GOOD NEWS!

I was so thrilled to read this post today. Stronger penalities for animal fighting have now been signed into law. One battle won. Hopefully we can put these cruel people behind bars now for a longer time.

I still feel strongly the best way to help all these fur babies is through getting tougher laws passed, and make sure they are implemented too.

Kathy (CO), maybe the Horse Slaughter Bill will be next. Praying hard it is.

I wanted you to know that I continue to pray for all of our various intentions, HOWEVER, every time I try to post a prayer it is blocked as spam. Every time I have broken through, it has taken 20 minutes to a half hour to do so. Our other prayer leader has borrowed a son's e-mail to bring the prayer to you as she is having the same problem.
Know that I do read the comments, and do pray for Vivi's recovery, and for all of your animal friends.

The ASPCA has a news story - do not buy pet food from companies that buy supplements or vitamins etc. or products from China.

Cross contamination is happening too - pets foods from companies that have had products recalled are not safe.

See www.itchmo.com

Purina gets its wheat gluten from China.

Vivi is, not was. She will be found and the party will be coast to coast. I don't believe in giving up. I haven't heard the fat lady sing or anyone else for that matter.
I've been reading the Church to Barbaro story. It's beautiful and you do need the kleenex nearby.
What a beautiful group of people this great horse brought together and his legacy will live on as all of us work to make the world a better place for all horses.

FROM TX: ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW WONDERFUL PIT BULLS ARE:

The pit bull was enticed to become enraged and attack and kill the cat, she said. "It was pretty bad."

When officers went to seize the dog — which had been a 17th birthday present for Miguel — and another pit bull in the same backyard, the dogs were friendly and docile toward officers, Kohls said.

A hearing next week will determine if the dogs will go back to Miguel or kept at the Houston SPCA, where they are now.

If convicted of the charge, Miguel faces up to two years in state jail.
Source:

What is your vendetta against pit bulls, Charly? It's getting tiring. My former cocker spaniel, Santana, did'nt like men and was extremely territorial. He was the runt of the litter and a puppy mill dog as we later found out. Because we got him at 6 months, we didn't know if a man had done something to him or something else. Never harmed my sons or my baby daughter when she was born. Dogs sense babies and little ones. He knew she came from me. But he was a pure watchdog and just a little cocker spaniel. You can't generalize about a breed. As a kid, I was attacked by a beagle mix and later a dalmatian. Like people there are lemons in the mix. But I never was afraid of dogs.

Charly - do you turn a blind eye to other extreme and rare incidents that involve other breeds of dogs or other types of animals and choose not to bring it to our attention? And - do you look the other way when it was the apparent enticement by a human that caused the attack? Apparently God appointed you the seer and reporter of all bad things pitty's do - CONGRATULATIONS you're doing a good job - however, it is not needed on this blog. Instead.......

I've got a new assignment for you Charly - I talked it over with God and he said it was ok for you to change assignments ---- your new assignment is to go after the kill buyers at the feedlots. GO GET'M TIGER

Anti Horse Slaughter Strategy

A WARM WELCOME TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED US!!

TWO NEW CO-SPONSORS IN THE SENATE!!! GREAT NEWS.

As you know, on Wednesday, April 25, S311 was voted on and passed in the Senate Commerce Committee. This means it is now released and can be put on the senate calendar for a full vote. While this is WONDERFUL news, our fight is very far from over. Actually, according to our sources, the real battle is just beginning.

We still must get HR503 out of the House Committees. This could be a problem. The leadership of both committees in the House, the Commerce Committee and the Agricultural Committee are AGAINST the bill. It seems that our best shot is to get the senate leadership to put S311 on the calendar for a full vote. However, the only way to assure this happening is by getting more co-sponsors in the Senate. We need co-sponsors in BOTH the Senate and the House. The more support, the better our chance for moving this forward.

FYI: The House and Senate bills can move separately, and if one passes (say it's S311), then the House could also pass the Senate version. It doesn't matter what the title or bill number is. Both houses of Congress just have to pass identical pieces of legislation, and both 503 and 311 are identical.

There are a few of you that are questioning this strategy and wondering why we are not targeting the committees. We have been informed that nothing will happen without more co-sponsors. For this reason, we have been ASKED to keep contacting any of our own senators and congressmen that are not yet on board. Please remember to NOT place calls to those that are already co-sponsors. As most of you know, the strategy can change at any time. When we receive new instructions, we will pass them along to you immediately.

IMPORTANT!!!!!.....It has come to our attention that some of the aides in DC are getting our two bills confused with HR249 that was passed in the House last week. HR249 is for the protection of our Wild Horses. That bill was passed in the House and now has to go to the Senate. OUR bill HR503 was NOT passed in the House but is still in committee. And it still needs co sponsors.

Please make sure they understand the difference. I was a little worried this would happen but I thought it would happen amongst ourselves...not with the people in DC!!!! If they tell you that our bill is out of committee in the House, please politely explain the difference. This could make a huge difference since some of them are saying that no more co-sponsors are needed!! That's just NOT true.

It is important to remember that our opponents have not become complacent and they have not given up. They are more determined than ever! They continue to make their voices heard and we must be louder.

Many of you are working with other groups also. While all the strategies are good, our success has come by following the directives that are given to us. Our contacts in Washington have asked us to stay focused on those directives.

For those of you are members of the state groups, please go back to Stephanie's original strategy. It has proven to be very successful and has gotten very good results. The response to our request for an Illinois group has been answered. Right now, Illinois needs our help. If you live in Illinois please contact w.szara@comcast.net

Alex has posted links on the anti slaughter site for your convenience. You can easily access both co-sponsor lists and more information about the state groups. http://www.timwoolleyracing.com/news/2007/04/anti_horse_slau.php

The momentum is with us...and never forget, WE ARE BARBARO'S VOICE! Make those calls and send those faxes for him and all the horses.

If you think one person won't make a difference, you're WRONG!!

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; Indeed it's the only thing that ever has"...Margaret Mead

Thanks and have a great day.

PS - I found out this weekend that the kill buyer in Colorado just bought a brand new fleet of trucks and trailers so he is counting on this bill not passing and his business to be booming - we need to prove him and the others WRONG! Thanks for any help you can give.

I just received some info about a dog that has died from eating Nutro Max dry dog food. It's not on the recall list. Rooby? I know your babies are on Nutro. This is so scary.

Marty - if you get any more information on that, let me know please. My mom's dog is on dry dog food from Nutro. I'm not sure of the exact name.

Charley, you need to meet my Eskie. She's all sweetness and light until the doorbell rings or she sees a dog she hasn't met yet, then she is pure guard dog! And, I've been bit by dogs twice--once by my aunt's mini poodle, the other time by a friend's teacup poodle.

I also know of a few examples of "vicious" small breeds. We also had a cocker mix who was very protective. He would even go after us if he thought we were intruding into whatever territory he thought he was guarding. We learned to read his signals and he lived in our family until he died of old age.

I'm hoping and can't really find out anywhere, that the Nutro is just the Nutro Max which is a cheaper brand of Nutro........I'm starting to panic again.
The company assured me the last time I went nuts about Nutro, that there food was safe.I now know they say what suits them at the moment.
I don't understand why all companies who sell dog food are not testing the food instead of waiting for our pets to die......
I'm off to check Itchmo and then call Nutro again.

Charly, why don't you go on a trip and take your
attitude about Pits with you? I'm really sick of your doom and gloom attitude. Shut up would be the best thing to say to you.

Nutro just sold their entire company - everything. Talk is that something bad is going to come out so Nutro wanted to unload it fast.

The ASPCA advises that one should not use a company that imports supplements etc. from China. To be really safe do not use any product that contains any type of Gluten or Protein concentrate. And this may be a shocker, but these big companies are not telling the truth.

Also, cross contamination is happening and it is advised not avoid any company that has had a product recalled. The news media asked the FDA about this yesterday in a news conference.

You can find out which companies do not use glutens and protein concentrates and have not had a product recalled with a little bit of web surfing.

Advised to avoid any company is what I meant to write.

What the hell should I be feeding my dogs? I'm so very sick of this mess.

As I mentioned a while back, I switched my dogs and cats over to Eagle Pack from NB - at my vet's suggestion. Go to http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/recall_stmt.html and read their info - it may make you feel better if you are considering switching to Eagle Pack or are looking for something to switch to. My pets are all doing good on this food, although I am only on my second bag so it is still pretty new to them. No Big D tho like I had with a few when on NB.

My pet store told me Eagle Pack was a good brand and I called the company and liked what I heard. Not everyone carries it, but the company has a store locator that you can put in your zip code and find the closest one. I put my puppy on this food and he seems to be doing fine on it. I switched from Nutro to homecooking to Eagle Pack.

I just received an email asking for help - if any of you can donate a few dollars - it will help - read thru these messages and see what a terrible thing this guy did to his horse - then called the zoo and asked that they take him for lion food - luckily the zoo called the rescue and the horse is now being treated but they need some financial help. Thanks friends.

here is another that tells the up-to-date of Mac - the above horse I mentioned.

http://www.strawberrymountainmustangs.com/Mac.html

I sent in a $50 donation to help out Mac and I hope he heals. Such a sad sad situation. Some people are nuts.

Hello Vivi loyals!!
Have you noticed a little different on this blog site!???
You couldn't hit onto the person's name anymore!??
It looks like it changed the rules or something??
So what's up with this thingy?? :-)
I'm still here and not going away...still waiting and hoping Vivi turns up real soon!!!!
God Bless you all!

Thank you so much Pukie Baby - and to everyone else that can help. :)

Oh - PB - people are nuts????? I'd go a step further and say they are insensitive, self-centered, non-caring ba$tard$

Oh by the way I forgot to add...so where's Marther??? Is she still hiding from all of us?? :-)

You are so very welcome. I love horses. They are near and dear to my heart as are all animals.

The man who did that to poor Mac is an agent of the devil himself. But God's angels rescued Mac and I hope he continues to heal. And God bless you Kathy for posting here so we can see and help too.

Well said, PB, about Mac. I'm glad he's going to have some happiness in his life now.

Kathy, why are people so mean to animals? Is it because the animal is unable to fight back and it makes the human feel they have the power? Do you know if anyone is going to file an animal abuse complaint against this man? I sent $100.00 to help Mac.

Yup, it's all about power and control over the helpless. Someday they are going to have to account for their abuse.

Thank you for helping Meri-Lou. I don't know about your question ML - It breaks my heart with each story I get told about. I guess it takes all kinds - look at the abuse we've seen just on the Vivi blog- what Wayne Dean did to Otis and all the others. Heck - look at what Denise's sicko neighbor is putting her and Duke thru mentally and financially! Some people feel big by beating, controlling or demeaning another person or thing - must give them some kind of satisfaction in their sick mind. I'm just thankful that God has dispersed Angels among us all to help when Satan's followers attack. I truly have found a band of Angels --- you guys are wonderful for helping.

I don't know about the animal abuse charges - will find out

Paula,
Marther is on yet another honeymoons. She's quite a gal!(0.;

I just read the story about this poor horse.
What the "HELL" is wrong with people. I have always loved horses from when I was a little girl...
I hope they hang the sucker that did this to this poor little horse..
God, be with him to make him heal quickly

Rooby - Another honeymoon for Marther?? She must be quite a romantic person...

If you haven't already signed this, please sign and forward to the moon. Senator Reid has set up a special line for Marjorie to send this to him when he calls for it. It is sorely lacking in signatures. PLEASE SIGN AND CROSSPOST There isn't much time.

Kathy, I thought I had already signed this petition but it took my name so I signed it for sure this time.

If anyone is interested I feed my dog (Rosebud for anyone who hasn't heard of my little girl) a product called PHD. Perfect Health Diet, it can only be purchased from dirctly from the company. It gets mailed to your home on a schedule so you always have food. It is a little pricey but there are not preservates, wheat, meat, food coloring, etc. Rosie has been on it for close to 10 years and thank God, aside from these annoying cysts she gets she has been very very healthy. No bad breath, hardly ever has diareahh (sp?), etc. Her disposition sucks, but I don't think that has anything to do with food. Haha!

If you care to know more about them, just email me and I will get you the information.

I spoke to them and they do not import anything that is in their food. You can't even buy it anywhere else but from them.

Hi Kathy from Bayside. It's good to see your post. I sent the Ban horse slaughter petition to a few others. Loving horses since I was little and now having a daughter who loves them, rides them and wants to be an equine vet, I'll do what I can to help. Thanks Kathy from Colorado for informing us how to help keep them safe and taken care of.

Thank you Susan!

What's the address to send a donation to help Mac? I didn't see one on the website? I can't believe people can find more ways to be cruel and barbaric.

Susan - you can mail to PO BOX 2133, ROSEBURG, OR 97470 or go to the link http://www.strawberrymountainmustangs.com/Mac.html and they have a paypal link

Thanks for helping Mac. And mention that you are from Team Vivi.

133rd Run For The Roses...Bobby, were you watching from heaven? @>~~~>~~~

Great race, but sad in a way....Barbaro was faster last year by seconds...I'm going to go light some candles for Bobby!

Aulcorp Food Marketers Inc. Conducts Nationwide Recall of Archer Farms Four Cheese Risotto, 6 oz., "Best if Used by 16JUL2008AA" Because of Possible Health Risk

Rooooby - of course he was watching - that is why nobody got hurt. Didn't you see his spirit running right along side them......

Yeah, I did watched the race a little bit and did thought and prayed that all the horses aren't hurt!
Which was why Barbaro was watching down here and in his spirit, he was running along with them! :-)
And...pray for the tornado victims in Kansas!
Bless them!

Kathy, I couldn't see his spirt, I was crying, but I did FEEL the love he sent to the horses and jockys.

I also hoped none of the horses would get hurt..It's a tough game, horse racing.

I too watched the race today. I kept thinking about Barbaro though. In the pre-game doings, they showed his two younger brothers which I thought was cool. It sounds like baby brother resembles Barbaro alot. It was still sad though.

I hate horse racing and I hate greyhound racing - I know the horses and dogs love it but it is the greedy humans that get involved that make it a bad think in my mind. Its been a tough day for me - all day of Barbaro and I've done nothing but cry. It feels like it is January 29th all over again. I think Barbaro was put here for the very reason - to make an impact and to change things......he sure has changed my life.

When I watched the races today, I kept wondering how many of these creatures would be dumped in the future at feedlots or wherever when they were no longer winning?

Pam the very same thing crossed my mind - right now there is a granddaughter of Seattle Slew in the feedlot ---- they breed and breed and then throw away. We have got to stop this - stop the slaughter and hauling of horses and make the breeders responsible for the life of a horse for the horses life.

Thank you, Kathy, for the address.
I watched the special on Barbaro that was on at 8pm. It was sad, but his spirit came through and the love his owners, trainers, jockey and the wonderful Dr. Richardson still have for him is so uplifing. He was a loved and treasured companion. You can still hear and see the grief in each of these individuals. Seeing his new baby brother was wonderful. Because of Barbaro, this great group of people from all over came together and are saving horses in his name. There is hope. Now if only the reason we all came together could be found, that would be so wonderful.

I watched the kentucky derby for the first time. I do not like horse racing. My biggest fear is that the horse falls, & then has to be put down..

I did not see any horse breakdown yesterday.. I was happy for that.. But seeing how beatuful all those horse are.. They get the royal treatment, before that race.. I fear for some of them after the race ..

CAN YOU HELP PRINCESS MADISON PLEASE?

I have created a Petition for Madison and her family which will be sent to Extreme Home Makeover. We are praying they can help rebuild a better and more handicap accessible home for Madison and her family.

Your signatures would be so very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

http://www.gopetition.com/online/12112.html

just signed the petition Kathleen but is says I was the second one ---- come on Team Vivi - we need to sign the petition for our little Princess.

please click on this link and read about the media blitz that will be happening on 5/9 and 5/16 - can you help with this please?

http://forums.delphiforums.com/timwoolley/?msg=8916.31&post=y&guest=y

Thanks Kathy. I saw your signature. Thank you so much.

I will hit the Memphis, TN media. Guess I am the "onlyiest" one in Memphis anyway, huh. Thanks for posting.

thanks Kathleen and I'm sure there are other Tennessee-ians but you're one of the special ones -

I just signed the petition, Kathleen. What a wonderful idea. I hope they are picked. Extreme Home Makeover has built remarkable homes for families with all kinds of needs. The people seem very compassionate, also. Keeping my fingers crossed that we will see Madison's family get a new home.

Hi Kat, I just signed the petition for Madison
I think it would be so neat for Extreme Home Makeover
to go to their home, I sit and watch it every Sunday night and cry.

KATHLEEN--I just signed my name on the petition for Madison and her family. They deserved the helps they need for her.
I hope they will sign it soon so that way it can be heling them to get it fix up!
God Bless you all.

I cannot tell you all how much this means to me. The signatures are growing very rapidly for Madison and her family.

I watched Extreme Home Makeover tonight (as I do each week), and the one tonight really touched me so deeply. I cried most of the way through it. This lady was a single mother who took a step to purchase a home for she and her four boys. Then the house was destroyed almost by termites before they were even able to enjoy their home.

I thought back to the days of how difficult it was for me to purchase the home I now live in being a single (or divorced) mom myself. I remembered the excitement and joy my two sons and I felt when we moved into our new home. You would have thought we had won the lottery! So my emotions were pretty wild tonight for this lady, Mary Noelle.

This new home for Madison and her family would be such a blessing and make their lives so much easier and better I truly believe. I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for helping with your support over the past year and now on this petition. Bless you all. I am still crying after the sweet comments I also read with the names.

I pray someday Madison will be able to come to this blog and thank each of you for all your help. With God's grace, I believe we may see that day yet just as we will see Vivi come home finally.

Amen, Kathleen. May they get the home they deserve to make their lives easier. May we welcome Vivi home very soon.

Don't forget the media blitz on Wednesday.....

URGENT CALL TO ACTION MAY 9 AND MAY 16 MEDIA BLITZ/HORSE HANDS ACROSS AMERICA

Some very sad news ---- Cavel re-opened this morning and has begun slaughter operations. Please call your senators and reps and ask them to support S311 to end horse slaughter in the US --- this is heartbreaking. Cavel is making all this money on OUR horses and Cavel is FOREIGN owned - I'm sorry, but I'm ready to kick all the foreigners out and keep all our money and food here ---- we'd be a lot happier, safer and richer.

Sorry - this is not a very good day - my heart is broken but I am not giving up and ask that you help me in getting this bill passed - PLEASE

Just curious - Are there protest people outside this plant? Do protests get organized to picket this place?

Oh Kathy, this breaks my heart too. Those poor, innocent, beautiful creatures. I agree, protesting might raise enough of a stink that the media attention might get this passed or something done to close them in the meantime.

Wish I lived there to protest. I'd put on my old Hippy attire (ha, like I could still get into it) and off I would go.

If you haven't signed the Petition for an Extreme Home Makeover for Madison and her family, please help.

People from the blog have been so wonderful about signing and their sweet comments also. Thank you so much.

New petition site for Madison's Extreme Makeover. Please circulate far and wide. Thanks.

I'm amazed, disgusted and heart sick at the Cavel slaughter house...thousands of horses have been killed in 2007........It's May, how could that be possible?
I also saw that the Cavel slaughter house is owned by people in belgium.......
We're in to help you Kathy..we will stop it!

I don't know about any protests but will find out - our Illinois FOB's are pretty on top of stuff - we were joking that we were going to have to lie in the middle of the highway - it may not be a joke now - it may be reality. Will let you know what I hear about protests.

Yes - all three s/h are foreign owned - they are the ones that eat it - we need to get rid of all foreign-owned businesses and get our country back.

it's heartbreaking Rooby but there are hundreds of horses all over the US in feedlots every day just waiting to be loaded up and hauled to Illinois or Mexico or Canada --- people would rather sell them for meat than to feed them or care for them ---- the almighty dollar. They want you to think it's the old that are there but there are week old foals, pregnant mares, ex-winning racehorses, healthy, vibrant, horses that nobody wants. The FOB's have rescued 600+ so far and we aren't going to stop till it is over with. I know you all are with me - it helps that I can come to you and you are there. every time I hear of a desperate plea to raise funds to rescue a horse, I will let you know, but you are all welcome to go to the tim woolley site and become full fledged FOB's and help get the word out. It's a big job but a rewarding one ----- each time you look into their eyes you see their sweet soul.

I wasn't on the blog yesterday but I just signed the petition for Madison. There were 80 names when I signed but Madison needs many many more. Please everyone sign and ask your friends to sign also. This child and her family really need our help.

I'm wondering Kathleen Ssss, if you had Madison's petition on the regular petition site where we had Otis and where Duke's petition still is, if you wouldn't get more signatures??? It's a thought. I know on that site, the signatures build up fast. You could have two petitions that was.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/create.html

*** I MEAN: YOU COULD HAVE TWO PETITIONS THAT WAY.
/0;

That is a good idea Roooby. I may try again. I tried a couple of weeks ago, and it would never accept my petition and send me the e-mail confirmation at the Petition.com site. I also e-mailed them twice and got no response.

I found another child needing help who had used the GoPetition.com site and went there. No trouble with that one yesterday, and it was immediately posted.

It certainly would not hurt to have two. I think I will try the other one also this week. Thanks for the suggestion.

Margot, thanks for the good word. We are up to 100 signatures now. Please everyone, e-mail your friends, animal lovers and family and ask them to please sign and support Madison too.

Thanks for all of your help. We will get there, and it will make a difference just like it did with Otis' situation.

I agree, Kathy. These type of foreign businesses have to go, especially Cavel. My senators and reps are co-sponsors of the bills. I hope these bills get passed and we can tell this Belgium company where to go. To do this to such majestic beautiful animals that symbolize the American spirit and for what?

hey strangers - i did sign Madison's petition.
been out of the loop awhile and missed you all. we are still hot on the trail of Duke's defense and YES, there is still Vivi posting happening.
here's hoping that summer will bring the lost and caged all back home :) God, i hope so.

Amen, Darlene. We need some good news here.

Hey Darlene, I saw your signature this morning and Debbie's too. Saw Margot's also yesterday. And so many other wonderful people.

We are up to 133 signatures last count, and growing pretty fast. I'm going to try building a second site like Roooby suggested tonight at the Petition.com too. I'll use my yahoo e-mail and see if it will work finally. I know Roooby and others have mentioned mail being returned from my Juno, and I think some weird stuff happened when I was getting those crazy e-mails that caused this.

Got my fingers & toes crossed for Duke's new verdict, and also for our precious Vivi and the others. Keep the media blast going for our horses like Kathy said - we will win this battle too with God's help on our side!

On the Itchmo site, there is a MSNBC story listed about this new pet food, in a roll that is put in a frig and sold in stores - it's called FreshPet and sells for about 60 cents a pound. No rendered animals and only veggies and meat etc. It sounds good so I thought I would share it; I haven't tried it but I might this week.

Hi Darlene,
It's great to see your post. We've missed you. I hope Duke goes home to his family and the Weenie Crew deliver Vivi right into Jill's arms very soon. We all need some good news and celebrations.

The FDA just had another newsconference: It seems that now it is "Wheat Flour" that is contaminated. So avoid all "Wheat Flour" in anything especially doggie treats.

Seems that ChemNutra shipped the junk to Canada and they in turn made it into fish meal, and it seems to be the fish meal that is actually fed to live fish on fish farms. And they FDA tested what they thought was "Wheat Gluten" and it came out as Wheat Flour, where the Chinese were just grinding flour and adding the Melamine and C. Acid to it to up the protein count, to make it appear as if it was "Wheat Gluten" (which is processed) and it was unprocessed Wheat Flour.

Ugh!

I missed you too Susan!!! we have been on the go here nonstop just like all of you guys. trying to help all of these babies is alot work but oh, so satisfying. i do miss the old blog ALOT. was a place of refuge and laughter when it was deserately needed. maybe one day, it will be back and all of the people who used to hang out and have some fun will return. there is always strength in numbers.

DARLENE--Oh yes one day when Vivi is found alive and safe...we will celebrate here! :-D
I missed seeing you on the blog!
Keep the great work on finding Vivi!

The energy has changed from the pet food poisoning and the blog may never be the same again. The Vivi energy has changed too, but I sure hope one day she surpises us all and appears.

For those interested I heard that there was a rally at the state capital in Springfield, Ill and there is also a hearing in the US senate on anti slaughter.

This just in:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Illinois Bill to Protect Horses Passes
Senate Committee

Bill Moves to Full Senate Hearing

WASHINGTON (May 8, 2007) – Today, an Illinois Senate
Committee voted 7-0 to
pass a bill banning the slaughter of American horses
for human consumption
overseas. The Humane Society of the United States
applauds the Senate
Committee and urges the full Senate to quickly pass
this legislation.

The bill, H.B. 1711, passed the Illinois House last
month and now moves to
the full Senate. Governor Rod Blagojevich strongly
supports the bill and
has lobbied in favor of its passage.

“Horses are an integral part of American history,”
said Wayne Pacelle,
president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United
States. “They are our
companions, not food animals. Horses should not be
brutally killed to end
up on a dinner table overseas. They deserve our
protection. Lawmakers in
Springfield recognize this. The Humane Society of the
United States is
grateful for their support.”

The Cavel International horse slaughterhouse in
DeKalb, Ill., is the only
active plant in the country killing horses for human
consumption. After a
federal court ruled that the U.S. Department of
Agriculture could not
provide inspections of horses about to be slaughtered,
the plant was shut
down. However, last week, an appeals court stayed the
ruling, temporarily
allowing the DeKalb plant to resume operations until
an appeal could be
heard. On the federal level, U.S. Rep. Janice
Schakowsky (D-9/Ill.) is
leading the effort in the U.S. Congress to pass a
separate bill, H.R. 503,
which would ban horse slaughter for human consumption
nationwide.

if any one can donate - these horses need to be saved by tomorrow - there is a paypal account listed - please donate if you can.

There are lots of us out here who still check the blog everyday. I stopped posting when all the nonsense was happening a while ago. I still think of Vivi all the time.

I just signed the petition for Madison. It would be awsome if they could help her and her family.

I'm so sorry to bombard you but here is another urgent need - these are U.S. horses - the first one I listed are in Belgium.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/timwoolley/messages/?msg=9020.1

As you see - there are so many being killed.

Oh this is so sad...I was looking at some of the pictures. These are young, magnificent, healthy creatures that are going to be shipped.

G IN MAINE - Thank you and so many others. You are all so wonderful. The petition is about 149 signatures now. Seems to be slowing though. PLEASE everyone send this info to all your friends and family (and people you work with) and ask them to please sign the petition for Madison.

This little girl has struggled so hard and come so far. I truly believe this added help (such as the therapy room in their home for her and a hyperbaric chamber also) might help her come out of this coma finally.

God bless you all for your help.

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/what-princess-madison-needs-to-get-better.html

Kathleen, I sent the link to everyone in my address book. Hopefully they will all sign it. This would be such a great thing for Madison.

Kay - Thank you so much for doing this. You are great! How is Jacques doing too?

hi everyone - today is the media blitz Wednesday - please email the media in your state -

There is a planned Urgent Media Blitz to take place on Wednesday, May 9th and Wednesday, May 16th. (a media link is provided below)

FOB's have proven that we CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! That said, we're asking you once again to HELP US ORGANIZE the biggest media blitz this country has ever seen to save our horses! Raise your voices once more and help make this media blitz a success!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please review the following letter written on behalf of The Jacksons and other Derby Winners' owners.

Please copy this letter and click on the media link below to find the local papers in your area. You can send the letter to 5 different papers at once and then you can go back and do it again!
http://www.newspapersol.com/

The Letter:

We stand with the proud owners of Kentucky Derby winners mentioned in the following letter published in the Louisville Courier-Journal on May 5. We join them in urging Congress to end the slaughtering of American horses for human consumption abroad.

Derby winners' owners: End 'cruel and brutal' practice
As proud owners of Kentucky Derby winners, we urge Congress to pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S 311/HR 503) to end the horrific practice of transporting and slaughtering horses for human consumption abroad.
While we have been fortunate to have bred, raised and raced world-class horses, we know we have a special responsibility to all horses, champion or not.
No horse should face the cruel and brutal end that slaughter entails.
Horses taken to slaughter are often purchased by killer-buyers; many others are stolen from their owners.
Still others have been surrendered for sale by owners unaware that their beloved animal will end up in the slaughterhouse.
Transport conditions are so bad that even the Department of Agriculture has condemned them.
Horses bound for transport are crammed into crowded trailers, unprotected from heat or cold and deprived of food, water and exercise for up to 28 hours. Many do not survive. Those who do are often too sick to stand.
Abused, terrified and desperate, they are then beaten and electrocuted to death.
Recent court rulings have temporarily shut down the three horse slaughter plants in the U.S., but foreign companies are now exporting American horses to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada.
Without a federal ban, they will continue to transport horses across our borders for slaughter and might soon be able to relocate their slaughterhouses to other states within the U.S.
The American Horse Slaughter Protection Act will close these loopholes and put down slaughter for good.
For our horses and our humanity, we ask that this bill be passed.
This letter was submitted on behalf of the following owners:
Staci and Arthur Hancock (Sunday Silence, 1989; Gato del Sol, 1982); John and Debby Oxley (Monarchos, 2001); Mike Peagram (Real Quiet, 1998) and William T. and Barbara Young, Overbrook Farm (Grindstone, 1996), all of Kentucky.

Kathy, I went to the site yesterday you posted with all those beautiful babies. I thought I would never stop crying.

Darlene (Missy Tender Heart), DO NOT visit that site. We just might have to commit you if you do! Take our word, you do not want to see those beautiful faces. The first one with the beautiful blue eyes was my favorite. Wish I could go purchase that one and keep it. I knew I should have bought a farm!

what is nice is if you donate you are in a way buying the horse - you are buying them their lives - a chance to run and play and be loved - a chance to not be inhumanely slaughtered and end up on a dinnerplate - PLEASE PLEASE DONATE TO:

OK, you can donate via www.paypal.com,

GOOD NEWS VIVI-ITES - The Belgium horses that need to be rescued by today are onl;y $400 away from rescuing all of them - YAY. We still need about $4600 for the Colorado horses. Buy a kiss from me ------ :)

I'll do it Pam - I'll get my daughters video camera and put it on youtube!!!!! I'll do anything for these babies.

and don't forget to do the media blitz today - info posted above - it is really easy --- cut and paste and email. THANKS everyone - we are on a roll -- but I need your help

If you guys want to join in on the blog to let them know that you are donating, go to http://forums.delphiforums.com/timwoolley/messages/?msg=9020.225

you may have to register to post but it is easy.

THIS IS GREYt

DARLENE - my weenie queen ------ I'm puckering up and puttin on some special red lipstick for your kiss

Hey Darlene - You need to design one of those Budweiser special outfits for Kathy to wear when she goes to kiss all these horses! Nothing but the best for Kathy! It has been a long time since you have designed one - it is TIME.

Nothing too flashy - don't want to scare the horseys

Our friend Jill told me how some of the horses loved the licorice and peppermint, maybe Darlene could string that and some of those good hotdogs on it for a little snack for all of them too. Some looked like they could use the extra calories.

th;ey LOVE peppermint candies ---- Barbaro had a fancy for the green spearmint candies - didn't like the red ones and he would pick them out they say. We had so much fun feeding the horses apples, carrots and horse candy AND the peppermints too when we went up to the rescue on the 29th - my granddaughter McKenzie was in 7th heaven around those horses - and the babies --- she wanted to hold them even tho they were 10 times her size - hahaha

Hey Kathleen, Great news about finding quicker ways to contact Extreme Home staff. keeping my fingers crossed. I just went to the Rescue site who have Mac, the horse the zoo contacted them on. Darlene, don't look at it. I'm so upset I can't see straight. I can think of a few things I'd like to do to those people who threw him out like garbage. Maybe the lions would like something different for dinner. Thank goodness for the angels who saved Mac.

You know ladies, just when we feel "down" and need some encouragement, God always provides. We have had so many wonderful things happening this week.

Bambi is home. Kathy and her group are saving horses right and left. Mac is getting the love and help he needs. Madison's chance at having the home that will help her is looking better and better. Kathy is going to get to kiss a "whole lotta horses" soon. Roooby has petitioned herself silly today and is exhausted. The media has been hitting the horse slaughter issue bigtime. No horses were injured in the Derby (thank God). Darlene gets to design a Budweiser original for Kathy to wear while she kisses those horses (with treats attached). We have not given up on Vivi and the posting continues, and on and on.

Life is good. Time to go home and take Tinkerbell some chicken to make her smile too! Chicken pot pie night at KFC - $1.99 special. She loves those chicken pot pies.

Night everyone. May we have many more blessings and good news tomorrow.

Thank you Kathleen for reminding us of our gifts. AND THANK YOU to everyone for helping me with the horse rescues, the faxing, petitioning, the calling, THE DONATING and all the prayers and good thoughts. The day will come when there will be no more animal cruelty on this planet - with your help, it will come sooner.

PS - We only need $1600 more to rescue the 11 horses in the Colorado feedlot and we only have until noon tomorrow to raise it ---- This total started at over $6500 so we are closing in. Thanks to everyone who has donated or sent prayers.

Oh Kathy...so close. I hope and pray it can get raised.

Kathy, I just read this and was wondering if you had heard anything about these little guys. Let me know as I will do what I can to help them out.

FOB's...
Several FOB's and I have been notified of the opportunity to save at least 10 foals under 4 months of age off of a feedlot.
Each foal is $250 each.
We need to collect $2500 to get these foals off the
feedlot. We have foster homes for all of these foals. One of the fosters will also be taking the Twins in June. All of these homes were referred to me by Shelley Sawhook of the American Horse Defense Fund. References have been verified.
Let's get these lil ones off of that lot asap. We are trying to pick them up as soon as Donations to be sent to

loloparks@aol.com via www.paypal.comSaturday.

Sorry, this is where donations for the horses can be made

loloparks@aol.com via www.paypal

MERI-LOU & KATHY (CO) - I just e-mailed Jill from the blog with the info. She knows so many people who do dog and horse rescue and love horses as well. I'm sure she has some great contacts to get the word out about these babies.

Continue to keep those toes, legs, fingers, etc. crossed Kathy. We will win these battles and have more victories to celebrate yet! Now we just need good news on Vivi, Sniffles, Biggie, and sweet Duke! What is taking that Court so long with Duke's case .....

Here is an update on the original 10 foals i mentioned

Hi All..
The foals are still on the lot with their mothers.
At first, I was told we could just get the babies.

UPDATE...THERE IS A VERY STRONG CHANCE.....
They will let us save the MARES AND FOALS together!!!!!

17 MARES AND FOALS.

They are calling me back today with confirmation.

We definitely have adoptive homes for 6 Mares and Foals.
Working on more with our contacts.

It is SO much healthier for the mare and foal to go together.
NO HORSE LEFT BEHIND!!

$220 to go to get the foals and their mamas Meri-Lou - I'm sure they will all get saved - the FOB's are an incredible group. Still need $1100 for the ?Colorado 11 - heard one was sold out from underneath us to a Mexican rodeo - for tripping - bad if you don't know what that is - trying to see if we can up the anti and make the kill buyer sell her to us. PRAY ---- tripping is not a good life.

Loosing this one mare to the Mexican Rodeo has caused quite a stir on the Barbaro blog - they are now down to needing $875 in just a matter of minutes ----- sure hope they can do something to get her back - course they will just buy a different one probably ---- there unfortunately is a lot of horses available to get. So many horses that no body wants -----

Kathy, I read the blog and I believe it indicates that they have raised $220.00 for the 17 that still need to be rescused (10 babies and 7 moms). The 10 babies will cost $2500.00 and they don't know yet how much the moms will be. I am going to do my part and purchase one. I am also putting another challenge to this group and that is, if they come up with enough to purchase 5 ($1250.00) additional babies, I will purchase another one. If anyone is willing to take me up on this, please let Kathy know how much you are sending, so that she can keep me honest.

THE COLORADO 10 HAVE BEEN SAVED!!!!! They are seeing if there is a way to get the one mare back from the Mexican Rodeo people.

Wonderful, Kathy!! I hope that last mare can be rescued. I looked up tripping -- not nice (to put it mildly). It's unbelievable how nasty people can be.

and I found out it is legal in colorado, wyoming, california and texas - we have to stop this along with slautghter

YOU'RE KIDDING!!! This act is legal in certain states??? It's gotta be stopped. Put me on the bandwagon. I wanna sign a petition.

I just found out the pregnant mares that were saved have been moved to a safer location in case they foal before being moved to rescue - the mare that was bought by the Mexican Rodeo is still there and they may be able to get her back - the rodeo wanted all the two year olds gut the kb said they were already spoken for - why this one slipped thru - who knows but they are trying to get her back - PRAY PLEASE

It's never-ending guys - we saved the Belgium horses, we saved the ones on the Colorado feedlot and now I find out that LCC - Last Chance Corral - needs some more funds to get more babies and milk - they need to finish raising about $1600 more - check out this picture - it is soooo precious

Happy Friday Friends --- the Colorado 11 are saved - well actually it is 12 - they were able to get another mare that came in AND we were able to buy back - outbid - the Mexican Rodeo for the red sorrel mare we lost - so she will also be coming home to the FOB's rescue ---- of course the price went up since they knew we wanted her. MORE GOOD NEWS - one of the pregnant mares foaled last night - so sad for the foal to be born there but it will received lots of love and food and medical care really soon. Hopefully the kb won't charge extra for her now that she is born. Thanks for all your prayers, candles, good thoughts and DONATIONS.

Just got the wonderful news that the baby that was foaled is included in the money raised and no additional funds were charged for her ---- what a wonderful beginning to the mother's day weekend - all these pregnant mares will get to become mommies and their babies will have the change to live. Thanks for all your help.

Also just heard that Texas is trying to sneak legislation thru to make slaughter legal in Texas --- we need everyone to call the Texas legislatures and urge them not to pass this - keep slaughter illegal in the united states. As you know Texas has two slaughter houses that are currently closed - this legislation I'm sure is being paid for by the foreigners who own these slaughter houses. Please please call or fax or email.

ALERT!!!

Texas Senators to Vote on Starting Slaughter Again!!

A stealth amendment has been attached to Senate Bill 911 that will reauthorize horse slaughter in Texas. The sister bill has already been PASSED in the Texas House of Representatives.

OUR ONLY CHANCE TO STOP THIS IS WITH THE SENATE IN TEXAS!!

Call, fax, and email these Texas Senators to stop this bill or ANY bill from passing that has a stealth amendment to allow the slaughter of horses!! The Texas legislature recesses at the end of May.

We have to act NOW!!

KATHY (CO) -

I have just divided these Senators into 4 e-mail lists and sent them each the same message. I copied you on these in case anyone would like to have a copy of my e-mails so they could just cut and paste the addresses into their own messages.

Praying hard in Memphis, TN, that this will not pass. Thanks for caring so much Kathy and all the others.

I have cut and pasted the e-mail addresses in the list below. Come on folks, let's all e-mail them and let them know we are STRONGLY OPPOSED to this disgrace in our Country!

THANK YOU KATHLEEN!! I AM ON MY WAY!! LOVE YOU, BETY

You are very welcome Betty, anything for you, Kathy (CO) and those pretty faces heading to the slaughter houses!

Kathy, I think you should send e-mails with a big picture of one of these babies that was saved right in the e-mail. Make them look into those eyes and tell those businesses NO!

AFTER ALL, THEY SAY A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS!!!!

Bet some of them would change their minds!

kathleen - i was trying to attach a picture but it wouldn't attach for some reason - they have lots of flyers on the tim woolley site - like one of little willie - whose mama snickers is blind and she was rescued pregnant on the feedlot and then wlllie was foaled --- he would not be alive had she not been rescued. I just cannot figure out how these people sleep at night but as one rescuer told me - it is just a job to them - how cold and cruel

Here is a poll Channel 11 Houston you have to sign up but it is easy and you can leave a comment as well:) We need to vote all polls in Texas!!!

Kathleen, I just e-mailed the list and hope they get inudated with protests. Kathy, anything to help our beautiful horses stay safe and treasured, I'm in. Thank you for keeping us informed and making a difference in horses' lives.
I'm off to Philly to go to my youngest son's graduation from Wharton Business School at UPENN. Last visit, we saw part of the new Vet school. It is beautiful and a wonderful place for future vets to learn. Barbaro will be on my mind as always. Have a good weekend and may we get good news about Vivi and our other lost and ill furry friends.

thought I'd copy this so hyou guys can read.......

Good morning everyone! My name is Barb and I am the executive director at Lazy Maple Equine Rescue and Rehabiliations Center in Leland, IL. We are the facility who got the call and brought the mare and colt home yesterday.

You can get all kinds of info on our program from our website at www.lazymapleequine.org or simply write to me. I return all emails!

Thank you for the kind words but what is a rescue, we are here to help the horses. That is it in a nutshell! We do need your help in any way you can provide it. These two plus two that came out of an auction 3 weeks ago are special and right now we have 5 in quarantine. Everyone is doing great! Our vet is coming today to check the mare and colt over. I'm not a writer so please excuse my broken sentences. urghh

Here is the copy of the story I posted on IHO last night. Not sure if anyone has seen it.------

This was our day today---- Call came in that a mare foaled on the kill floor just minutes before her life would have ended. Yep, that close! (This is what we were told by several people)

Received numerous calls early this afternoon about a mare foaling at Cavels plant in Dekalb. The calls started at about 1pm--- the bo from Amber Sun in Malta contacted me then a vet asking if Lazy Maple could possibly get to Cavels and pick up this mare and her new foal. HAHS was called by someone else but they didn't have transport. Steve had the trailer hooked up by that time and we were already heading up there, very apprehensive about what we were going to encounter. Jim Tucker made the first call to a local vet who started making calls--

Upon arrival at the plant we were instructed to back the trailer up to a loading dock and we would try to walk the mare and baby out to the trailer. Well, she didn't agree!! Would not let us get close enough to her to slip the halter on much less lead her anywhere. We basically stood there trying to figure out how to get them in the trailer--- finally decided to open the pens and let them simply walk out and load that way. Good decision!! Baby followed mom to the door but there was a 10-12" drop off so we picked up baby and put him in the trailer. Mom jumped right in after him and off we went headed for home. The ride was uneventful, we stopped several times to give them a break and for the little guy to find his sea legs. Once at the center we simply backed up to the roundpen, opened the gate and used the trailer door as a secure wall. Picked up the baby and set him down in the pen, mom followed and immediately started on the hay we had set out for her.

Both are fine! In quarantine. USDA vet arrived to pull coggins on mare but couldn't get close enough to put a rope around her neck so tomorrow we will try again. The foal is wonderful---he is healthy, perfect conformation and a friendly little guy. I have held him, given him some meds already by mouth and rubbed him all over. Everytime someone enters the roundpen he is already coming right up for attention. Our vet will be here tomorrow to retry drawing blood and check them both over---Poor Toni! She is always here for us no matter what I throw at her!! Couldn't ask for a better vet or friend~

Back to the horses---- the mare has a brand on her left hip which I am going to investigate. Somewhere out west someone took this girl to an auction??? who knows??? They might like to know where she is and that she is ok and is a new mom.

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them! We are going to have a little contest to name~~~~ A plaque will be given to the person submitting the chosen name for each with a picture. Send in those names!!!! The baby is truly a miracle child, he saved his moms life today.. Considering his markings we would like an indian name for something like miracle or lucky. You get the idea.
Mom has a soft eye and a kind heart, she deserves something sweet and loving. She never challenged any attention given to the foal today. That worried me the most.

Please remember all the horses, no matter if they are in feed lots or simply in a pasture without food to eat. Support the rescues, we need you more now then ever.

I'm glad I was given the link to your bulletin board. I love talking to people who care about the horses~

Barb

Susan you are so lucky to be going to UPenn - try to stop by the New Bolton Center and check out where Barbaro lived ---- I would love to switch places with you ---- i would love to see UPENN

ROOOBY - Sure hope you are out there. You just love to see the "little old Southern Belle in Memphis get really mad," and she sure did today.

Had to post this because I am so HOT right now. There are people in Memphis (puppy mills and backyard breeders) who breed and sell these poor babies on street corners. Today it was pitbulls. Nevermind the fact that almost all these pits are being euthanized now in the shelters in this area, and that I spend a large amount of time sending e-mails to rescue what we can.

We have one location in Raleigh at Yale and Austin Peay where they do this. A policeman ran them off several months ago, and I thought this was over. Now, sun is out, puppies for sale again! I cannot tell you the times I have stopped to give these poor babies and the grown dogs water. They do not even keep water for them in the heat of Memphis (yuck)! A Southern Belle does not even think the words I would like to call these folks ... shame on me.

Last week, I had an officer run them off again. They were back this week. They are supposed to have a permit or the owner of the property's permission, but they never have either.

I called the North Precinct on my cell and asked an officer be dispatched to run them off again. Waited and waited, no officer. Roooby, this is the part you will love! I was so angry, I called the North Precinct once again. This time I was not very nice. I told them I was waiting for their action, giving them 30 minutes, and if no one took care of the problem my next call was to all the news channels. I said, "By tonight, the City of Memphis citizens will know just how little your precinct is doing in this community! And I will not stop there. I will be getting the head of the police department involved, the Mayor's action center, the owner of this property, and anyone else I can find to help." Then I told them, "Do not mess with me. I am working hard to alleviate animal cruelty every day of my life, and I WILL NOT allow it to occur in my own backyard!"

Well, within 10-15 minutes the police were there (2 cars). They wrote them a citation, sent them packing, and even put up the yellow "do not cross" police tape across the entrances to this area. It is a vacant lot right now. Mission accomplished, I hope! If not, how would you ladies like to do a media blitz in Memphis with e-mails, phone calls, etc? I may be calling in Team Vivi on this one!

Oh, and I made sure the police officers saw my cell phone - with all the news media numbers and North Precinct I had programmed to call. Wanted them to know I WOULD call the news media ... not to doubt that one for a minute.

Feel better now just venting. Pray hard please for these babies and the suffering they go through in the hands of these uncaring people. DUKE, THIS ONE WAS FOR YOU BIG GUY!

Kathy,
Your post @ 9:56, I don't understand one part of it...Maybe you could explain what it means????

"Mom has a soft eye and a kind heart, she deserves something sweet and loving. She never challenged any attention given to the foal today. That worried me the most."

Roooby - Just the way I took it, I have to admit I had to think about it for a while too:

I believe Kathy meant to say how sweet this Momma was and how kind, but she wants the Momma to demand or expect her own kindness and love - even with the baby there. I think Kathy wants her to not settle for "second best" after what she has gone through herself. Sort of like a person who has never had true love during their lifetime, and later does not know how to respond to a loving person because of this.

As long as the foul is with Momma though, I don't see this happening. We mothers always want the most love and attention for our children or babies, be they human or be they fur babies. At least most mothers - I wish I could say all.

Happy Mother's Day EVERYONE. We are all mothers on this blog (yes, even the men) to at least our sweet Vivi and all the others. Have a wonderful day, and may Vivi come out to go home and see her human mother soon.

My two cents - kind of means mom knows she doesn't have the energy or the fight left in her - knows she can't care for the foal on her own and that she and her foal have been rescued. She knows she has to trust in order for her foal to survive.

Think about it - she literally smelled death as she was foaling. Imagine how you would feel - not the words that would be in your head, but the emotions. She felt the same thing.

Dead dog found along NJ roadside possible drug mule, police say
By DEBORAH M. MARKO, The (Vineland N.J.) Daily Journal

Posted Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 12:52 pm
VINELAND -- The severe wounds inflicted on a slain German shepherd found dumped along a rural Fairfield Township road last month may have been inflicted after the dog's death, SPCA investigators said.

That's fueling speculation the duct-taped dog, now known as Justice, may have died as the result of drug activity.

It is becoming more common for drug dealers to use dogs as "drug mules," forcing the animals to swallow self-contained drug packets, allowing easier transportation of the drugs.

In some cases, drug dealers can retrieve the packets from the dog's feces. But in more brutal instances, the dogs are cut open to access the contraband.

Because Justice was apparently gutted as well as suffering tongue and rectum cuts, the SPCA is considering the drug-related death a credible theory.

The Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals is waiting on results of a more detailed autopsy. A blood and tissues analysis should determine if there were drugs in Justice's system.

Unable to find a veterinary pathologist on the East Coast, the SPCA is getting some welcomed assistance from a Philadelphia-based pathologist, who usually works on human cases, said Bev Greco, the shelter's executive director.

Other developments in the Justice case:

- The N.J. State Police lab is continuing to trace a fingerprint lifted from the duct tape to a suspect. Those results could come within the next two weeks.

- Donations to the Justice Fund are still coming in. The additional money will be used to establish a Crime Stoppers-type reward fund to encourage anonymous tips in specific cases that lead to the arrest and conviction of animal abusers.

- Once the autopsy of Justice is complete, Greco said, a memorial service date will be announced.

oh sweet Jesus - what will these low life humans think of next to harm our sweet animals with. Does it ever stop?

Good morning everyone --- I need your help to call or email Texas - we need to keep them from slipping in the amendment on the anti-slaughter bill - please see above post at May 11, 2007 @ 4:21 - if you already did this - thank you ----- and please do it again and have your friends also. We need to get thru to these people. Thank you

Everyone please help Kathy by e-mailing or calling. I posted a long list of all the e-mail addresses on May 12, at 1:43 am. You can just copy and post these e-mail addresses in your e-mail and write these senators. Please let them know we care.

Also, if you have not signed the Petition for Madison, PLEASE help us by doing so. Here is the link:

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/what-princess-madison-needs-to-get-better.html

Thanks everyone!

Kathy - I will work on that e-mail list today and let them know what I think. When does this get voted on?

I sent each one an email and then had to do it again because I forgot to put my address in the email. So they actually heard from me twice.

Not sure when it will get voted on Pam - you know how politicians are.....but we need to let them know now - I will let y'all know when I find out. I hear the sanitation district is after Cavel now also for their waste dumping........we will do it - just need to keep on them. we will get them closed AND keep them closed. Also heard that Canada just opened another s/h - guess they think they will be getting more business. That is why passage of the anti-slaughter bill is so important - it covers transportation and if we can't transport - they can't get to Canada or Mexico - legally that is. Thanks

Yes - put your address on the email ---- if you have a Texas address - use it ---- or someone you know from Texas :)

I live in Texas and anyone who wants to use my address for this, just let me know - MM5814@yahoo.com

You can use my address also. Just email me lanareed@windstream.net

You Texas ladies are great. No wonder my son loved living in Texas so much!

Kathy, I hope they will impose very high prison sentences and fines for anyone illegally transporting these babies as well in that bill. We have to make sure they do not do this illegally and kill many inhumanely trying to get them to Mexico and Canada. Can you see what kind of punishment will be inflicted if this law is broken as well? I would love to know.

It is my understanding the new anti-fighting bill that was signed into law offers a 3-year term and a $250,000 fine "for each offense" from what I have heard. I hope this is right. We have to really hit these people hard to stop them.

I'm just hoping they don't turn a blind eye to those transporting illegally. Will see what I can find out.

I have been working on the list.
Keeping the faith alive for Vivi also here in Texas

Thank you Cherita - you have been such a big help -

I just sent another donation in for Mac - the little colt whose owner practically skinned him alive ---- he will be going in on May 21st for skin grafts - which will be very expensive.

To see his sweet little face go to http://forums.delphiforums.com/timwoolley/messages/?msg=9173.157

This blog is so depressing now. I understand this is reality but some words should be left out.

MARTY - I can understand how you feel. We have not had any really good news this week it seems. No rescues, etc.

I really do try and post good news when I hear some though. One thing I read about on Fox News or CNN was great news I thought.

Check out:
http://www.pets911.com/index.php

This is a new rescue source to put these animals looking for homes on video. They came up with this idea after noticing how much more people were interested in rescue animals shown on TV shows. Hopefully this will help a lot of wonderful babies looking for forever homes.

Also, California is trying to pass a law to fine people (or require them to purchase a permit) if they do not spay/neuter their animals within 4 months of acquiring them. Think how many euthanized babies this could stop from happening. Wish Tennessee would do this also!

People are out there working to get some laws in place and ideas to help these babies. We are not the "Lone Rangers" on this blog! That is definitely GOOD NEWS to me.

We actually had a lot of good news last week and it probably wasn't posted...Jill and her buddy rescued a bunch of dogs..Tn Pete was also found! The NY gals haven't given up on finding Vivi! My son came to visit me for MOTHER'S DAY...haaaaaa

MARTY: My son and daughter passed through Bakersfield and I wsa given a little cloth bag that says:
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA - INCORPORATED JANUARY 11, 1898..way to go Bakersfield...

55-year-old Vet Needs Help Saving His Best Friend!

This man needs to raise approximately $6,000 to save his best friend, David, a dog who means the world to him and helps him. David needs a hip-replacement badly or will have to be put down.

Here is the story. One of the other bloggers shared this with me, and I wanted to share with all of the kind people on the blog. Let's help this doggie if we can. Tinkerbell and I are going to send a contribution for David's surgery.

http://www.nbc25online.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=35164

Write "For David" on the subject line if anyone sends a check: Richard Reister, 1726 W. Brady Street, Chessining, MI 48616

And if you live in this area, he will cut your yard on his riding mower for $10 to raise money for David. What a deal, wish he lived near me!

I'm going to be mowing lawns right along with David's person if I don't stop sending money for these poor pets.
So is it $8,000 for both hips? I assumed that was what it was...Poor David the doggie..I'll send something to help with his surgery. I hope that some of you will do the same... /0;

Roooby - I know the feeling. Going to have to spend a good bit on Tinkerbell again, but some money will go to help this baby too. You and so many others are always so generous helping others. Bless you so much.

Pat talked to him on the phone, and he mentioned $6,000 - so maybe he found a vet who would do the surgery cheaper after the article I'm assuming. I have his phone number too if anyone wants it to give him a call.

Does anyone in this area of Michigan know a vet who might be willing to do the surgery at a much lower rate to help this man? Please ask your vets if you are in this area and bring his story to their attention.

Surely we can find someone to help us out there. The news media would be terrific for their business in the end. Great PR for sure.

Roooby, any news on Duke? I wish we could hear something good and positive about Duke and Vivi.

KathleenSsss,
Nothing on Duke..I guess it will be another 3 weeks of waiting and waiting..The gals have all been working hard and waiting and waiting..

Whats going on with Tinkerbell? Is she having doggie problems?

I don't know anyone in Michigan, wish I did to help so they could help David get new hip replacement cheaper.

Psalm 5:1-3
Give ear to my words oh Lord, consider my meditation. Hearken to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for unto you will I pray. You will hear my voice in the morning, oh Lord, in the morning will I direct my prayer to you and will look up.

Good morning Daddy God. Thank you for your many blessings and tender care. We ask you to strengthen our hearts and give us the encouragement of your Holy Spirit. There are many battles to be fought and it cannot be done without you. We look to you for strength, guidance and wisdom in every thing that we do. Lead your army ever forward and bring them to Vivi. Bring this little bundle of love home where she belongs. Bring freedom to little Duke and bring him home to his mom and lead Bowdee back to his mommy. He misses her and she misses him. Gather them together Daddy and lead them to each other. Every loved one we have brought to you, has been placed into your protective care. We trust you to bring all good things to pass. We could use some encouragement Daddy, from your heart to ours. Help us to be strong in your presence and to be wise in your ways. We look to you for deliverance, redemption, rescue and deliverance for all we have brought to your loving throne. We are your family Daddy God. Hold us all in your tender care...In Jesus's Name. We praise you!!!

Our struggle today is God's miracle tomorrow...

Hey Rooooby - Sure wish they would let us know something about Duke. Maybe "no news is good news" as they say. Praying hard for that sweet guy to be "sprung soon."

Tinkerbell is having a lot of her doggie PE and shots, but we are also going to do some extra stuff to make sure her little back is doing okay. She seems okay, but I want to make sure my girl is doing fine.

She is at Camp4Paws today playing with Onnie, and then getting her pedicure and bath. She was so excited this morning - just loves Camp4Paws!

Here's some good news - the Colorado horses on the feedlot were rescued and some have already found new homes - sure hope I can get up there to kiss some noses before they find their new homes!!!! Mac, the colt that was practically skinned by his owner - his vet bills to date have been paid and he is scheduled for his skin grafts on 5/21 - still taking donations for that as it will be expensive. The Nebraska 6 who became 7 are home and receiving all their medical treatments - almost paid for. So see, there are lots of good things happening - sometimes we just don't have time to post them cuz we move on to another "fire". Thanks for everyone that is helping. I've noticed a few Vivi-ites have started blogging on the TWR site - welcome.

JUST A REMINDER - tomorrow is our second MEDIA BLITZ - please email, call or fax those Texas legislatures asking them to please not pass any anti-slaughter bill that has an amendment tied to it. The list is posted above at May 11th, 4:21 pm Thanks

I thought we agreed we were not going to put such graphic details on the blog of what's happening with the animals. I think putting a website to go to would be great if people want to know more.

Oh my - you have got to go to www.equine-heaven.com and read the message that "Barbaro" sends today. :)

Marty - what are you referring to as being graphic details?

Kathy - I think maybe Marty means the description of sweet little Mac. I have to admit, it does rip at your heart to imagine this - but we just have to think positive and know this baby is getting plenty of healing, love and attention and will hopefully soon be well and whole again. I still cannot believe this man will not be prosecuted for this though. Hope someone finds him and whips the daylight out of him for us!

Little Mac's story will hopefully have the happy fairy tale ending we all want for him. He deserves it for sure. And he will have it thanks to so many people who love and care for God's creatures. Thank you Kathy and all the others for helping him.

RE DAVID THE GERMAN SHEPHERD::::My check was in the mail today.
I have to go to the post office and get some 2 cent
stamps.....ackkkkk, 41 cents to mail a letter.........I'm thinking
some of these charities could use some stamps every so often.....I
always give my kids stamps for Christmas..
I hope someone will take pity on David. I just read in the San
Francisco Chronicle, March 15th, a little Jack Russell who was badly
burned in a fire had a bill of $26,000. Pets Unlimited, the S.F.
animal shelter and hospital, not only saved Bobby's life, but gave
Bobby's person the gift of waiving the bill..When this particular
shelter/hospital started, 60 years ago, its founders included a
provision that animal burn victims could be treated free of charge.
The man who saved Bobby is still in the hospital, heavily sedated and
in intensive care of S.F. General Hospital..They expect him to
recover, but its been slow.
BTW, Keenan, 43 who saved Bobby, saved the life of a stranger in 2001.
So far $19,000 has been collected for his hospital bill....

God's Glory is the sweet fragrance of His presence and the Mighty movement of His Spirit in all things

Hi!
I'm back from seeing my son graduate from Wharton at UPENN and both ceremonies were just wonderful. Sorry Kathy, I didn't get to the New Bolton Center this time. The crowds of people in town kept us around the area. They also were doing the Susan Komen walk for Breast Cancer by the Art Museum on Sunday so people and detours were everywhere. I saw the next wonderful group of Vet students graduate. They marched into Franklin Field carrying blown-up surgical gloves and wearing very impressive graduation gowns. They had to match the dental grads who came in carrying a gigantic toothbrush. Aretha Franklin and Ruth Bader Ginsberg were among those who received Honorary Degrees. It was a beautiful weekend and unforgettable Mother's Day. Next time I'm in Philly I will get to Bolten. Hope all of you had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Hi Everyone - today is MEDIA BLITZ WEDNESDAY - please email, call or fax the Texas senators - ask them to not vote on any anti-slaughter legislation that has an amendment attached. Thank you.

SUSAN,
I love the blown up surgical gloves and the giant toothbrush....|When one of my kids graduated from High
School, during the ceremony, somone launched a giant black garbage bag into the air, with "things" tied to it and printing on it. Then there was the graduation where each of the graduates had tiny bubble blowers and let bubbles fly all over the field...Pretty snazzy graduations!

A word of advice, DO NOT trust your vet's office to remind you of vaccinations, etc., due for your fur babies.

The original vets who took care of Tinkerbell did not remind me, and several of her shots slipped by me. Well last night she was coughing terribly and was very sick. This morning Dr. Pearce (her new vet) diagnosed her with the Bordetella virus. He said it was a good thing I got her in so quickly.

Her white cell count was quite low, and he had to give her quite a bit of meds and shots (one in her trach and Mommy almost died seeing it). She was such a doll baby, did not give him one bit of trouble and was so good for him - didn't even cry. That's my girl!

Well this "irresponsible" Mommy will not depend on vets any more. All info will be on my Outlook Calendar from now on to remind me when things are due. One note though, all her other bloodwork looked good - so hopefully no tainted food problems.

I believe that's what is called "Kennel cough". If she's been where alot of other dogs are I believe that's where dogs can catch it. One place where I board Mabel requires this shot before she is to be boarded if we're gone for a few days. Hope Tink is up to snuff real soon.

Thanks Pam. She will be better soon I'm sure. Dr. Pearce is just the best and so gentle with my girl. I wish he had taken care of her from day one.

Sorry to hear about Tink not feeling well -- sounds like you have a greyt vet that will take wonderful care of her. Prayers she is feeling better real soon

A friend just sent this I hope this link works. This a absolutely a fantastic dancing horse.

http://beboframe.com/FlashFrame.jsp?Size=S&FlashBoxId=3309347442

The link works. It's fascinating how those Lipizzaners (sp?) can prance and dance and hop and skip and make it look like it's no effort at all.
I saw them at a couple of different shows and came away more amazed each time.

KathleenSsss,
Do you board Tinkerbell or when she goes for her bath and beyond, is it possible she got the Kennel Cough there? It is highly contagious for sure. It's good that it was caught early, antibiotics will take care of her...Without treatment it can get nasty. Symptoms usually appear about 8 to 10 days after exposure...dry hacking, awful sounding cough that usually ends with gaggin or retching..There is also sometimes a clear watery discharge from the eyes and nose and sometimes loss of appetite..It's not a serous condition usually so don't worry about your little girl since you caught it right away..If Tinkerbell is friendly with the cats, she could give it to them......

Because Bordatella isn't fatal and is usually passed between dogs in group situations it's consider an optional vaccination I think.

The dressage video was so cool to watch. Thanks. You can just tell that horse wants to be doing that. I saw the Spanish Riding School once in Vienna and once when they came to DC. That's THE group of Lippizaners -the level of performance that all dressage horses are kind of aiming at and that Patton famously saved in WWII- I think they tour in the US about once every 20 years. There is nothing like it if you ever get a chance...

Karen, I agree 100%. I was mesmerized both times I saw that show. I always thought it was interesting when they explained why the horses would be lathering their bit. I always look for that when I see horses perform now.

Thanks Roooby and Karen -

The only situation of exposure to other dogs has been at Camp4Paws, but the vet said that was too recent to be what caused this. Dr. Pearce did say that sometimes a dog can be a carrier without any symptoms. I was careful not to let Onnie around Tink until she had all her shots, her check-up, bath and spaying. Phil kept her for me until we had this done.

Dr. Pearce did think that maybe Onnie was a carrier of Bordetella. He told me you can even carry it to your dog on your feet and into the house. It is on a real rise in this area, along with Parvo.

Tink is much better tonight. Had to hide her meds in "chicken" to get them down her. On a comical note, a man came in with this HUGE female Great Dane. The Great Dane decided she had to sniff Tinkerbell, and you should have seen Tinkerbell turn around and act like the "big furious dog." She had everyone in the clinic laughing. I told them she had a "small dog syndrome." The Great Dane looked at her like she was crazy or something!

The shots and meds seem to work very quickly though. She has hardly coughed at all tonight. Maybe some sleep tonight - sure hope so. Everyone at work got a laugh at me too today because I can become like someone with ADD when I am sleep-deprived - I was like that today for sure.

Rooooby, the surgical gloves and the big toothbrush definitely added a personal touch. The ceremony was very down-to-earth and folksey for an Ivy school. Just listening to the President and Professors speak to these future leaders, vets, dentists, nurses etc., you can see why UPENN is outstanding in so many fields.
Kathy, I e-mailed the Texas group again and hope the killing fields will be shut down forever. Our horses must be treasured as all animals should be.
Any news on any of our missing pups?

Kathleen, glad to hear that Tinkerbell is recovering quickly. I was laughing at the vision of her and the Great Dane. She sounds like a real cutie. I know of a Mini Pinscher that does the same thing and it's hysterical.

Psalm 93:3-4
tThe floods have lifted up, Oh Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. But the Lord on High is Mightier than the noise of many waters, yes, than the mighty waves of the sea.

Good morning Daddy God. You said in your word that when the enemy comes in like a flood, you will raise up a standard against him. Daddy God, we ask for your healing grace for Iggy and Contessa. Holy Jesus, touch little Iggy's kidneys and heal them Lord. Make them strong and perfect and new. Flood us with your Glory and truth. Daddy God, you are strength when we feel weak. You are our encouragement and hope when things seem to be the darkest. Let your light shine in Gail's family. Flood her home with your Glory and sweet Deliverance. We ask this in Jesus's Name. Daddy God we ask you to touch and restore little Tinkerbell into perfect and vibrant health. Destroy this bordetella. Cause these germs to die and to raise her immunity system into total perfection. We count on you because you ARE our strong Daddy. Hold all of us in your hands and cuddle us close to your heart. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, so that we will walk and live and breathe in your Miraculous Glory. We will not be moved in our faith in you. Bring little Vivi into Glorious deliverance just like you did for Bambi. Cause Vivi to jump into your rescuer's arms that you have chosen. Cause little Bowdee to walk right to the door of home, purring and pawing to come in. We trust you Daddy. We believe in you. We stand in your love and light of deliverance and in the Glory of your presence. Bring us all into your victory and joy filled with laughter and dancing, even as David danced before you. Bring us into your rejoicing freedom and love. In Jesus's Name, we praise you as we bring all of our loved ones to your throne room of mercy and healing and deliverance. HI GUYS!!!!!!!!!!! still working on our Duke!! sorry i have been out of touch lately. the brief i do believe is on its way to the courts and the deadline of May 21st is fast approaching. so, Denise and her "crew" are ahead of the game. just pray hard that May21st brings great news and WE get another shot at a court date - where we plan on kicking ass!! and - no good news? there sure is!!! Monica's Motlet Crew of Georgia puppies she saved are getting ready for their trip to the Big Apple!! they may arrive by Sunday and she and Debbie both plan on going to see the babes at North Shore. sure, there will be alot of picture and alot of tears!! that's why "Missy Tender Heart" (as Kathleen S call me) is NOT going. that is something i cannot handle. AND, Jill brough us some great news too - Paws for Life may be getting the permit for their new kennel!!! knwo what that means?? many many more babies will have a "room at the inn" and will be rescued!!!! so, there IS good news!!!!!! will keep you all informed about Duke. Going out this Sat. with my "posse" (**HA***) to do some Vivi hunting. we haven't given up yet, girls!!!!!

Lots of white light energy being sent to Iggy. I pray for a miracle.

GREYT NEWS ----------

The Illinois State Senate just passed HB 1711
(39-16-2), a bill to ban horse slaughter in the State of Illinois. This bill overwhelmingly passed the Illinois House earlier this month.

The bill now goes to Governor Rod Blagojevich for his signature. The Governor has committed his support to SAPL and has stated he will sign the bill immediately.

Once the Governor signs the bill it goes into effect
immediately. THIS MEANS THAT CAVEL WILL CLOSE!!!

Thanks to everyone for your help and support! Now we must pass the federal American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act (H.R. 503/S. 311) to ensure our horses aren't sent to Mexico or Canada for slaughter.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO CALL TEXAS AND YOUR OWN STATE POLITICIANS IN DC.

YEY!!!!!!!!! more greyt news!!!! TO HELL WITH CAVEL!!! good going, Kathy!!!!

Hooray! Hooray! Thanks for some fantastic news, Kathy!

Darlene, great to read your news. So many pups saved because of the crew. I'm very glad that the posse hasn't given up on Vivi. I know she's out there and will cross paths with you so you can bring her home to Jill and Rick. I'm just hoping it won't take 4 years like the Boston Terrier. Though I'm so thankful that because of Miss Vivi we all have met. I couldn't have asked for a greater bunch of animal crazy people like me. Keeping my fingers crossed for Sweet Duke to be reunited with his family.

YES YES YES - it is great news - I have heard there are FOB's just waiting to go get the horses out of the lot at Cavel. Hope that Governor signs it first thing today. BUT the fight isn't over - Cavel was closed before and got reopened. We have got to get this bill passed in Texas to keep them from reopening AND we have to get it passed in Washington to stop it forever. The bill in Washington will prevent the transport also so that will not allow any to go to Canada or Mexico --- we have got to show Canada that that brand new plant they just opened won't be needed.

another tidbit --- Mac our little wonder colt - will be going in on Monday for his skin graft - SO Monday is a big day for him and for our precious little Dook-ster. Pray that both have good days and greyt news.

If you would like to help out with little Mac the Colt - he is looking for angels that will pledge $25 a month for the next 12 months while he heals - if you want to become a part of his recovery team of angels, just mail a $25 check each month to: Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, Inc.
P. O. Box 2133
Roseburg, OR 97470
Attention: Darla - Mac's Mama

I think all of you know Mac's story but if you would like to visit his website, go to: http://www.strawberrymountainmustangs.com

BACK AT YA, SUSAN AND KATHY!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE ALL THE BEST AND I AM SO BLESSED THAT I MET ALL OF YOU. YOU ARE MY TOUCHSTONE AND WITHOUT YOU, I COULDN'T COME THIS FAR. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT NO MATTER WHERE SHE IS, WE WILL FIND VIVI :) AND 4 YEARS?? PUHLEEEASE - I BETTER GET MORE WEENIES AND BEER. HA!!!

Here is a story and a way to help- petition to sign, etc, to shut down a notorious Virginia puppy mill.
http://network.bestfriends.org/truth/news/14974.html

also wanted to say that Strawberry Mountain Mustangs is a non profit so it is tax deductible!!! Be sure to mention that you are part of Team Vivi ----- you would be surprised how many FOB's I've run across know about Vivi now :)

AND DARLENE - I will never give up on Vivi --- I truly think she is in someone's home, being pampered and they don't even realize that she is a wanted girl.

I signed the petition Karen...Nasty story.

Kathy:I'm with you, I won't give up on Vivi either..
We're lucky we have the NY gals still thinking of her.

I just took a neighbor and her stray cat to the vets. Poor cat looked like he got chomped on by a dog. I feel very sorry for him..He should have become and indoor cat almost 4 years ago... )0:

Roooby - You are so sweet. I know that lady appreciated your help so much. Let us know how the kitty is please.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT DAVID!

Please check out this story about all the donations Richard is receiving for David's surgery. At this rate, I think David is a real winner for that new hip replacement soon!

http://blog.mlive.com/saginawnews/2007/05/dog_donations_pouring_in.html

Thank you all for your great help! YOU ROCK!

Who of our Michigan Viviphiles is near Chesaning and would like to take a road trip to visit David and wish him well? I hope somebody is!

With love,
Tara

I remember when I was a child, we found a stray and took him in. He was so good and we were told if no one came forward in a week, we could keep him. Even though I was young, I could see that this dog was from a loving home and acted like he was homesick. His owner came forward in a couple of days and I was happy for this dog because his heart would always belong to that family. Seeing the pictures of Vivi with Jill, it is very obvious there is a strong bond between them. Vivi might be pampered in someone's home but I'm sure her heart is still with Jill. And someone would have to be up in a cloud or totally selfish not to notice her behavior and report that they found her to someone. May we get a sighting soon or she is taken to a vet and her microchip is scanned.

Listen for His voice. He will lead you in the right path.

KAREN - I signed that petition also. This is my other cause I would love to see stamped out - puppy mills. Thanks for sharing this.

TJILL - Wish I was in Michigan. I would love to go visit and take him and David a good treat to enjoy too.

SUSAN - I am with you. I heard the love of Vivi in Rick's voice as he told me about their lives with Vivi, and I will never forget that conversation. It was so touching and sincere I could tell. Praying hard for some good news on Vivi real soon!

MADISON - Petition is growing, but please sign if you have not already. Thanks for your help.

THREE CHIHUAHUA PUPS:

Everyone be sure and watch CNN News today. They are doing a short story on the three chihuahua pups at North Shore Animal League born without their front paws. They are so adorable, and getting around great. They said these babies should be ready for adoption in about two more months, and they are insisting that all three be adopted together because they depend on each other so much.

It is a really sweet story and the pictures are so good of these babies!

Kathleen, those chihuahua pups sound so precious and full of spunk. I bet the phone lines will be jammed with loving people asking how to adopt them. I hope I can catch the segment on CNN.

Hi Everyone - here is the anti-slaughter strategy for Friday, May 18

Thanks to everyone who participated in Wednesday's Media Blitz. We got some great feedback and it was such a success that we will be targeting another date in the near future to do it again! Thanks also to the wonderful Kentucky Derby Owners who gave us the opportunity to share their letter!

As we told you yesterday, we have been informed there is a hold on S311. The only way we can get it to the floor for a vote is to get 60 co-sponsors. That would be a majority and the bill would be released. If you think one senator doesn't matter, you're wrong. We need EVERY one we can get. You might explain the urgency when making your calls. There is a good chance that will make the difference to those that are undecided. ONLY ADDITIONAL CO-SPONSORS WILL MAKE THIS MOVE FORWARD!!! While you are an awesome group, WE ARE NOT ENOUGH. We must reach out to everyone we know to call and fax!! It is crucial that we get more people involved.

Additional co-sponsors are also needed in the House to move HR503 out of committee. To call upon the leadership at this point would not be the best use of our time. It will not matter if they don't have the co-sponsors!!

Update Illinois and Texas State Legislation
The Texas Senate amended a bill, S.B. 911, to make horse slaughter legal. This same bill passed the House Agriculture Committee without the amendment to make horse slaughter legal. But it is still possible for EITHER the House or Senate to sneak legislation through to make horse slaughter legal, so we need to keep the pressure on.

Meanwhile, the Illinois legislature just passed a ban on horse slaughter for human consumption, shutting down the last operating horse slaughterhouse in the country. Congress is poised to ban horse slaughter nationwide. Texas lawmakers should know that legalizing horse slaughter would be a serious step backward for their great state.

TEXAS TAKE ACTION
CALLING ALL TEXANS! Please make a brief, polite phone call today to your state senators and your state representatives and urge them to oppose any efforts to make horse slaughter legal in Texas.

We must get S311/HR503 passed federally to end this once and for all and to stop the transport of our horses to Mexico and Canada.

There are still some states that do not have State Groups. We must reach out and help those states because every sponsor is crucial!! Please contact Stephanie at Sbreaux1@verizon.net to find out which states are not covered. The rest of us will have to jump in and give them some help.

WE ARE BARBARO'S VOICE! Make those calls and send those faxes for him and all the horses.

PLEASE - WE NEED YOUR HELP ......There is still a very real danger that horse slaughter will be legalized in Texas. With only 9 days left in the Texas legislative session, the horse slaughtering plants have one last chance to legalize horse slaughter. To do this they must get SB 911 to the House floor so they can ADD a pro-slaughter amendment to it. To stop this action, we must kill SB 911 in the House Calendars Committee and we must do it now. We are asking everyone to contact each member of the Calendars Committee immediately and urge them to kill SB 911.

The members of the Calendars Committee are as follows:

Dan Branch (R) dan.branch@house. state.tx. us 463-0367 / 322-9935

Thank you for your support!

I just sent emails to everyone in Texas who representes me. If anyone else wants to do the same, email me at mm5814@yahoo.com and I will provide you with an address in TX to use.

KATHY - You have my backing. I could not call from work, but I just e-mailed all the House members on your list with a strong opinion. I copied you also so you could see what I wrote.

Everyone, let's help Kathy. Here is a list of the e-mail addresses. All you have to do is copy and paste them into your e-mail. You could do this in 5 minutes easily. Let's BLAST them with e-mails. May God bless and watch over these innocent animals.

thank you so much Meri Lou and Kathleen ---- this seems like an endless battle I know, but we will succeed --- I just need all of your undying help in getting this done.

Meri Lou and I worked very hard this weekend saving 4 horses that were headed to slaughter at 8 am on Saturday. The money was raised 45 minutes before the deadline but the killbuyer didn't think the money would be raised for the final two boys and loaded them onto the truck. He honored his promise to us and unloaded them but this was way too close. There was a semi-truck full that we never had a chance to save that pulled out that morning. The best way to stop this from continuing is to get these bills passed to stop the transportation and slaughter of our nations equines for human consumption. We must take a stand --

As Kathleen said in the copy of the letter she sent - this bill is SB911 - 911 - we cannot let those numbers be associated with such an atrocity to our nations horses.

Thanks so much Kathy. I'm going to post what I said here also for everyone else. Please feel free to use anything you want to write an e-mail - just please do it. We have got to stop this once and for all.
----------------------
Once again I come to you and ask your help in
STOPPING this inhumane treatment of our beautiful
American horses and their foals. These animals have
done service for humans for hundreds of years, why
can we not pay respect to this by saving their lives
from slaughter once and for all. PLEASE VOTE TO STOP
HORSE SLAUGHTER by stopping any amendments and SB
911.

Please kill the SB 911 bill in the House Calendar
Committee NOW and stop this act of cruelty once and
for all. In an age of so much violence, saying NO to
this bill could certainly teach our children a
valuable lesson and allow them to be proud of us as
Americans once again.

Please DO NOT dishonor the numbers 911 by passing
this bill. 911 was a time when our country stood up
for what was right, gave of itself to save and help
others in need, and grew stronger than ever before.
This bill will do nothing but dishonor this memory
of 911 also. It is no mystery that this bill was
named 911, God is testing us once again - will we
show Him how strong we are as a nation united under
His name and save God's creatures once and for all.

Please give this strong consideration and vote NO to
horse slaughter in Texas and in the USA. Make our
country proud once again. Do not let greedy foreign
businesses dictate to us how to run our precious
country of freedoms!

I will be emailing from home this afternoon.
Keeping the faith for VIVI and that this bill fails.

Bless you Cherita. Thanks so much. Go get 'um girl!

Thanks Cherita......

Hey for you bird watchers - this is fun: http://www.foalcam.com/index.php?L=cam.cam&id=robin

I just e-mailed the Texas Sen again and used part of your letter along with my thoughts, Kathleen. You truly have a way with words. Hope Bill 911 is defeated once and for all. After being at a horse show with my daughter yesterday and seeing so many of these beautiful animals, we must do what we can to keep them safe. Thank you, Kathy for showing us how to help.
Now with the nice weather here this week, if only Miss Vivi would meet our weenie crew.

Thank you, Susan. I have always enjoyed writing and sometimes wish I had pursued journalism instead of computers! I pray my words will touch their hearts. How our country can allow these foreign countries to come in and prey on these beautiful animals makes me sick to my stomach to say the least.

I sure wish we could get a sighting or some good news about sweet Vivi. When I think of her, my heart still longs and hurts to know she is okay. From the moment I heard of Vivi's journey in Memphis, my heart strings were wrapped around her - and will be always. As Marnie would say, Keeping the Faith in Memphis, TN. Surely by now she wants some weenies! Lord, please give us all that ray of Hope we need right now for all these animals ... precious Duke too!

Cavel is killing up a storm today
We need the governor to sign the bill ASAP!!!
Please send an email immediately to the govenor of IL http://www.illinois.gov/ asking that he sign the bill now.

MERI-LOU AND EVERYONE ELSE:

Here is the info if you want to call. This one I am going to call about. This is horrible!

Office of the Governor
207 State House
Springfield, IL 62706
Phone: 217-782-0244 or 312-814-2121
TTY: 888-261-3336

Just talked to a very nice young man in the Governor's Office. Here is what I found out:

The bill has not reached the Governor's desk yet for him to sign it. I begged him to please ask the Governor to insist that bill be sent to his desk immediately. No doubt, this is probably a stall tactic to do more slaughtering at Cavel before the bill gets signed. I voiced how I felt to this young man, and he agreed with me. He promised he would speak to the Governor about our call.

Here is how we can keep in touch with when the Governor receives the bill:

http://www.ilga.gov and do a search for HB 1711 to find out the status.

Everyone, PLEASE insist this bill be sent to the Governor immediately with no more stall tactics.

Please check anti-slaughter threads. Information there says we have been asked to stop calling Illinois. So, I say it is time to start emailing the governor http://www.illinois.gov/

Meri-Lou, the Governor's hands are tied right now. He is ready to sign the bill immediately upon receiving from what I was told. He cannot sign the bill until received.

Here is what I found out. After contacting the House in Illinois, I found out that all bills can be held for 30 days before going to the Governor for signing. This would mean June 14th in our case for HB 1711. Bills are not always held this long, but it is not uncommon.

I was also told the person who could possibly help us get this bill to the Governor by addressing it with the proper people in the House is the Speaker of the House (Monica Christ 217-782-1006). If anyone can find an e-mail for her, please post.

I understand some of the stronger Barbaro folks have been contacting the Governor's Office. Does anyone know how to contact these people and give them this information? I feel a call from them to Monica Christ might help us get this expedited.

The people I have talked to have been so understanding and helpful. They are all thrilled to see this bill was passed, now to just get it signed into law as soon as possible.

I am not sure about Monica Christ being speaker of the house as the internet indicates that a Dennis Hastert is the speaker of the house, but this is what I was able to find as a to do

TO DO: CALL Representative Molaro's office. As the sponsor of this bill, he has the ability to "fast-track" Bill HB.1711 to the Governor's desk - he is on the road between Chicago and the capitol in Springfield, but his aide has left a message on his cell phone and is also keeping track of all the calls coming in. PLEASE REQUEST THIS BILL BE "FAST-TRACKED":
(217) 782-5280.

MERI-LOU:

Great news! I just talked to Monica Christ (also a very lovely person), and she said the bill is on the fast-track already. She anticipates the bill will be to the Governor by Wednesday for signing into law.

I asked her to please relay our sincere appreciation for the passing of this bill and for the help fast-tracking it as well. She said she most definitely would.

Sure wish there was some way to stop Cavel in the meantime. Anybody know someone with the electric company that could cut off their power for a while?????? Hummmm!

MeriLou - Kathleen ---- thank you for helping out with this.....I just cannot bear to go to the thread today --- I first opened it up and they said that Cavel was killing up a storm - it's like they are doubling up so they can kill more and more...my heart is breaking --- after the closeness of saving those 4 horses on Friday nite ---- it is just draining. So glad I have some angels helping our horses when I break down. Thank you guys

You girls could also work as detectives as fast as you find places to call and email. You are great.

Dennis Hastert used to have the job Nancy Pelosi has now- that's Speaker of the US House of Representatives. You are dealing with the Illinois house.
I found this:
Representative Michael J. Madigan (D)
94th General Assembly- 22nd District
Speaker of the House
Springfield Office:
300 Capitol Building
Springfield, IL 62706
(217) 782-5350
(217) 524-1794 FAX
District Office:
6500 South Pulaski Road
Chicago, IL 60629
(773) 581-8000
(773) 581-9414 FAX
Cook County

I couldn't find Monica but she may be a staffer and in fact probably was if she was answering the phone.

Thanks all. Karen, someone transferred me to Monica. But I don't know her title. I thought the other lady said she was Speaker of the House, but maybe she works for the Speaker of the House or something. She was sure sweet though. Everyone was so sweet and helpful. They all want this bill into law as soon as possible. I could feel this in their kindness.

Kathy (CO) - You are SO welcome. Believe me. We all get burned out because we care. When I sound down and withdrawn, I am experiencing the very same thing. I have to walk away from it sometimes to keep my sanity too. You need to do the same for sure. You will come back recharged and be able to do twice as much. You have to take care of yourself too though.

KathleenSsssss: I just got an email from a friend in Ukiah California, wayyyyy North...She had an animal transport company pick up a cat to send to Utah to the owner...The guys were from Tn....how about that? She said they had a nice crate for the cat, they were polite and really seemed to love animals. I'm trying to get the name of the company..They were taking the cat to Utah....long trip..

Previewing your Comment
I'M COMING TO YOU GUYS AGAIN ----- CAN YOU HELP? I REALIZE MONEY IS TIGHT BUT EVEN $5.00 WILL HELP KEEP A HEART BEATING PAST FRIDAY.

Horse Rescue will save 10 horses
from going to slaughter this weekend

Can you help??

May 22, 2007

Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue located in
Loxahatchee, Florida and Honea Path South Carolina
will be going to the Sugarcreek auction house in
Sugarcreek, Ohio where they will save 10 horses from
going to slaughter. We will be outbidding the
killbuyers and purchasing the horses out of the
killpens. A group of individuals, called the Fans of
Barbaro, who is group formed in tribute of the
legendary and beloved racehorse, Barbaro, and is
dedicated to saving horses from slaughter has been
raising funds to help towards saving these horses from
slaughter on Friday in addition to others horses
across the country

Horse slaughter is still very prevalent in our
country. Although the Texas slaughter houses are
currently not operating, Cavel, located in Illinois is
still in operation awaiting the signature of the
Governor on the latest bill passed to ban horse
slaughter in the state of Illinois. This has not
happened and Cavel is currently slaughtering horses at
a higher rate. The horses in the killpens at
Sugarcreek go straight to slaughter, not another
auction, not another chance... straight to slaughter,
either in Canada, Cavel and sometimes Mexico.

Please take a journey with us and walk through the
beginning of the end for almost 100,000 horses,
yearlings and foals every year. There is no dignity,
only an agonizing and tortuous death...and the bottom
line...greed and money. The slaughterhouse, the brutal
end for over 90,000 horses last year, and it is not
for the sick and lame ... they are racehorses, show
horses, protected wild horses, Premarin mares and
their foals, stolen horses, playful yearlings, wide
eyed foals and even that special loved pony you rode
as a child..

You can help these horses and you can help today.. You
can adopt..sponsor, volunteer or donate.. A small
donation will help pull a horse from the killpens this
Friday....Every week we are saving horses and ever
week that need us more. They need us and we need
you...

Please help us make a difference.
..saving the life of a horse may not change the
world...........
........but it will change that horse's world.

Pure Thoughts is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit
organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses,
yearlings and foals that were bound for the foreign
owned slaughterhouses in our country in addition to
starvation, neglect and abuse cases.. Horses,
yearlings and foals bound for slaughter would have
been brutally tortured and slaughtered so that they
could be served as a delicacy in foreign countries.
After arriving at Pure Thoughts the horses are
quarantined and evaluated, they are medically tended
to, put on a healthy nutritional program and most
importantly they are shown that they are loved and
humans will not harm them, they have a second chance.
They have gone on to become show horses, trail horses,
family pets and forever companions. We have saved over
500 innocent equines and as long as this cruel act
continues we will continue to fight for the horses. We
cannot do this alone...we need your help!! Please help
us and others save these beautiful animals and please
remember in your thoughts the ones we were unable to
reach.

Good news folks!

Governor Blagojevich has just announced that he has fast tracked HB.1711. He will sign it Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Unless something changes, there is no need for further calling in Illinois. Thanks to everyone in this emotional time.

As to whether or not Cavel can challenge the law in court, there are differing opinions. We will be watching for the other shoe to drop.

Kathy, I just sent $300.00 via Pay Pal

NEW RECALL: Nutra Nuggets Lamb Meal and Rice Dry Formula for Dogs
Recalled
May 22nd, 2007

We have been able to confirm that Nutra Nuggets (made by Diamond Pet
Foods) is recalling their Lamb Meal and Rice Dry Formula for Dogs with
the Best Buy dates of October 9-10, 2008. We spoke with a vet at the
Nutra Nuggets recall line and he said that so far, they had only heard of 2
cases in which the dogs had renal diseases (confirming the news report
from yesterday).

He said that it was due to cross-contamination due to food being
produced for Natural Balance (Natural Balance had recalls in mid-April). At
this time, he said that no other food produced by Nutra Nuggets was
being recalled.

MERI-LOU - Thank you for reporting the Governor's words. I feel so much more confident now. Ladies (and gents), our voices put this bill on fast-track (you can bet on that one), as well as getting the bill passed.

Kathy (CO), and all you others out there, you can give yourself a big round of applauses for "making your voice and heart heard." You can be VERY proud of what has been accomplished. This is just the beginning of what we can do with our voices! Just the tip of the iceberg as they say!!!!

Once again, we can all thank our sweet Vivi for bringing our voices together and teaching us all to never give up and "Keep the Faith" as Marnie and Cherita do!

Congratulations! Kathy (CO), my donation will be made also. Meri-Lou, thank you and all the others (one in particular I am so fond of, and you know who you are) for always being so generous helping all the animals (and people too).

Sure wish one of us could win a big, big lottery. We could bring everyone together and use the money to change the world for these animals!

Madison Needs Our Help!

Madison's Petition was growing rapidly for a while, but has reached 1242 and is growning very slowly now.

Could I ask each and every one of you to PLEASE forward this info to friends, workers, family, anyone you can think of and ask for their help by signing the Petition? It would be so very much appreciated. Thank you.

http://www.gopetition.com/signatures.php?petid=12112

Thank you MeriLou - I saw your donation in Vivi's honor on the thread --- you have kept a beating heart beating past Friday.

You too can help keep some hearts beating ---- Tracy at Pure Thoughts has said that you can post date your check til it is convenient for you for her to cash and still be able to save our goal of 10 precious horses this Friday --- Tracy has a 10 horse trailer that she wants to fill and can only do it with help from all the horse lovers out there --- if you can, please post date a check in any amount to Tracy at Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue --- your donation is tax deductible too. Let me or someone know how much you wish to donate so we will know when we reach our goal --- we only have a little more than $1400 to raise to reach our goal of saving 10 precious horses ---- 10 sets of hooves can go up the limo ramp instead of the ramp to the ugly truck. Thanks for all your help and prayers for our horses.

Quick update:

It looks like the bill is on the governor’s desk to be signed…really fastracked…it was not supposed to get there ‘til June 16; and Cavel has been really stepping up the pace, extra shifts….etc. The governor will sign as soon as he returns to office. You guys really effected this situation! When this does go through, it would be a good thing to send snail mail or fax thank you’s to the sponsors, IL senate and house heads, and the governor.

The ILGA has just updated the status of the bill and it is now officially listed as "Sent to the Governor!"

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1711&GAID=9&DocTypeID=HB&LegId=30536&SessionID=51&GA=95

Kathy (CO) - You and this news are the ONLY THINGS that have brought a smile to my face this week. This has been a HORRIBLE week so far in my life. This news makes me feel like something good has come out of this week.

I talked to the young man in the Governor's Office for quite a while, and he and I discussed this bill and how badly it needed to become law. He was so sweet and sensitive (and the other two ladies as well). I will never forget his voice though. He wanted to help me so badly I could tell. He promised he would talk to the Governor about trying to push the bill to his desk as soon as possible when I told him Cavel had increased production and was "killing up a storm."

There were times I felt we both might have tears going down our faces! This young man reminded me so much of my son, Nick, with his compassion and ability to calm someone who was really hurting.

Thank God above this senseless cruelty will soon stop. Thank you Kathy and Meri-Lou too.

wish that darn governor would get back in his office but doesn't look like it is gonna happen today ---- in the meantime, Cavel is working extra shifts to kill and package before the bill goes into effect. Please pray for those helpless souls that Cavel is killing

KATHY (CO), hope you are out there reading the blog.

Just found this news announcement online about the Texas plants.

Dated: May 22, 2007 10:23 PM
Texas Plants Will Stay Shut

AUSTIN, Texas — Two of the nation's three horse slaughter plants appear likely to remain closed after they were apparently denied reprieve by the state Legislature, then turned away by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Texas House let a deadline of midnight Monday pass without action on a bill that had been expected to authorize the reopening of Dallas Crown Inc. in Kaufman and Beltex Corp. in Fort Worth, the Houston Chronicle reported.

In a second blow later Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court denied hearing the plants' petition to overturn a federal appeals court ruling that effectively shut down the plants this year.

"We're very disappointed but not surprised," said Karin Cagle, a Fort Worth attorney who represents the plants' Belgian owners.

The other U.S. horse slaughter plant is the Cavel International plant in DeKalb, Ill. A ban on horse slaughter in that state was sent to Gov. Rod Blagojevich last week, and his spokesman has said Blagojevich will likely sign it.

Posted by Betty - Blessed be the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 'HOLY IS HE!"

Psalm73:28
But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all His works.

Good morning Daddy God. How we praise your Holy Name in all the Mighty works you have done. We thank you Daddy for stopping the horse slaughter. Close down Cavel Daddy. Bring an end to this horrid evil. Smash it with your mighty fist of righteous anger. Fill your workers with your Holy Spirit and bring victory into every thing you lead their hands to do. You are mighty Oh Lord our God, our Father, our life. Embrace this world in your arms and cause the wicked and haughty to fall. Raise up your children into your Glory as they move ever forward in the victory of the battles you have set before them. As Joshua and Caleb said, Oh Lord, We will take the mountain!! For we are not afraid nor are we faint at heart. We face the battles with diligence and the strength of your Might. Bring Beloved Vivi home to rescue swiftly. We speak your blessings upon her and ask that your light shine upon her. Bring Duke home to his family to enjoy the freedom and love you created for him. Raise up Timkerbell and bring little Bowdee home quickly. He needs to come home Daddy to his forever mommy. Raise a glorious home for Madison as you heal her with your powerful touch. Bless our hands and feet as each one of us does the work you have sent us out to do. Holy Jesus, reveal yourself to us all. Reveal your love and power, your glory and strength. Raise us up as dear children and bring us into your eternal life. Fill us with life and laughter as each and every battle is won through the power of your Kingdom on earth. We lift our loved ones to you in confidence and true faith. With you, ALL things are possible. We praise you!!

Luke 15:4
What man of you having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness; and go after that which is lost until he find it?

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes, we are healed.

All things are possible when our faith stands in the Lord, the Mighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for yelling, but this makes me a very, very happy lady.

It's great to see good news here. And to see little by little progress from a grass roots movement as organized as they are- the courts, the state legislatures, US congress and senate. And inspiration without a doubt from Barbaro.

Here is a poll on the pet food recall that you may want to take and find the answers interesting
http://www.care2.com/polling/results/188

Hey ladies - I was so excited when I found that news release late last night. I was so sad everyone was not on the blog to celebrate with me then. I swear, if I had all of your phone numbers I would have been calling all of you waking you up - I was that excited! Guess you are glad I did not have your phone numbers, huh!!!!!!!

The other good news is that Eddie's Wheels for Pets wants to help the three little chihuahuas with carts. Nancy M and I had talked about this after I found their story. All the news on CNN has had their phone lines running over, and Eddie could not get through to them. I finally got through yesterday (in a sneaky way) and think we may have a connection going now. If not, the ladies in New York are working to get connections at North Shore Animal League hooked up with Eddie's Wheels for Pets. Monica and Debbie will actually be going over there in the next few days to see the pups that Monica rescued, so they can DEFINITELY find someone then. So sure looks like the little fur babies will have "wheels" thanks to Eddie's and these nice ladies helping. I can hardly wait to see them rolling around in those carts!

Now where is that Governor! He needs to get his pen going NOW.

YES - that is wonderful news about the Texas plants and the little chihuahua puppies ----- I am going crazy that the gov has not signed yet ---- claims he is running a state ----- EXCUSE ME ---- Cavel has three shifts running ---- processing meat and hauling it out before he signs the bill ---- wonder if there is a tie there???? Checking now to see if there are any horses or incoming trucks there today. WE NEED HIM TO SIGN.

Thanks for prayers and calls ---- we have got to stop this inhumanity.

Kathy (CO) - Me too. I just tried calling the Governor's office again. I cannot help but think this is a stall tactic still to help these foreign businesses. Please keep us informed what is happening.

Maybe we should flood the Governor's office with phone calls until they sign it into law.

Can we start a calling campaign to the news media in Illinois to get them contacting his office and asking why the bill has not been signed?

Can anyone living in Illinois PLEASE call your news stations immediately?

9820.1

We just got word that they will try again today to amend the senate bill. Please follow the instructions below sent by Jerry Finch.

Subject: URGENT HORSE SLAUGHTER

WE HAVE LEARNED THAT SENATOR SELIGER PLANS TO AMEND A BILL TODAY IN THE SENATE THAT WILL LEGALIZE HORSE SLAUGHTER.

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATOR NOW AND URGE HIM/HER TO WATCH FOR SUCH AN AMENDMENT AND TO VOTE AGAINST IT. YOU CAN GO TOwww.thln.org and find out.

Jerry Finch

http://www.habitatforhorses.org/

On the governor situation - they are giving him a little more time before they start the mass calling - Cavel will continue processing today --- their plan is if the bill is passed - they will kill and process for zoos and pet food....NO money there so I'm sure it will only be for today - BUT - we have got to get the bill signed dear gov. As noted above with Texas === as soon as a bill passes, someone tries to appeal it.....I HATE OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM most of the time.

I hate this new system of having to put in those darn codes two and three times everytime I post something ------ WHY is it like this - I want our old blog back (*^&*(^$

THIS IS THE LAST DAY IN THE SENATE TO AMEND BILLS.

We have received inside information that an attempt will be made to amend a bill to legalize horse slaughter. Call your Senator and the Lieutenant Governor now and tell them that you are strongly opposed to horse slaughter and ask them to look for and oppose any amendment to any bill that would legalize horse slaughter. DO THIS NOW! Not in an hour, but now. PLEASE. . . PLEASE . . .

Please call asking them to oppose any legislation that allows horse slaughter to start again in Texas.

I believe Kip Averitt is anti-slaughter..call him anyway.
Just started calls with my Senator Kirk Watson.
Aide was very nice. I asked if they had been receiving calls about
this because they tried to slip one onto another bill and it was
killed. She said "Oh Yes...people are very upset this might happen
again."

EVERYONE KEEP CALLING...OUR VOICE IS BEING HEARD!!!!!

Doesn't matter if you are a Texan or not...WE NEED YOU TO CALL!

These Texas politicians are being really sneaky...

Just did the flyer and fax thing, Kathy. Hopefully this will get the governor moving on this pronto!!

CROSSPOSTING:

FYI, I have only called 4 so far and they are all interested to hear the TX stats that show Texans are not only fed up with horse slaughter, but they're also fed up with TX state legislators who support horse slaughter -- one aide asked me to e-mail them to her individually so she could pass them on. Here they are again -- I also added the TX Monthly stat:

Recent TX Monthly poll: 74% against

KHOU poll last week: 80% opposed

Texas Humane Legislation Network poll: 77% of Texans say they would be less likely to support a Texas state legislator who wanted to change TX state law to allow horse slaughter in the state.

One of the aides also told me we have a GREAT NETWORK.

Just got through speaking with Eddie of Eddie's Wheels for Pets about the chihuahuas. So far, no North Shore Animal League calls - but we are working on it. I just left a message once again.

This has got to be the nicest man I have talked to in a long time. What a wonderful human being! He was an engineer until he became somewhat disabled, and then he pursued his "hobby" of making carts for these sweet animals.

The story of Sweet Pea, a pitbull they rescued and helped, will be on Animal Planet this next month. So be sure and watch for it. I believe he said June 13th?

CROSSPOSTING --

HEY EVERYBODY. I just spoke with the Governors office, again, this AM. The secretary said the best thing we could do is"" KEEP CALLING"" The heat and all of the phone calls to the Gov and the senate/reps is Working. KEEP THE PHONE CALLS COMING.

Just heard that two trailers of horses have been processed at Cavael this morning and two more are waiting to pull in--- that's at least 100 horses per truck.......PLEASE call or fax the governors office --- NOW

Kathy - Darlene is trying to help me with contacting media folks to get them after the Governor's Office about signing this into law IMMEDIATELY.

Ask your folks to help us contact the media also. Nothing to get faster action than sticking a camera in the good Governor's face with questions!

We especially need local people there in Springfield, IL to start calling the channels (radio and TV).

Here is Sweet Pea's story of rehabilitation with Eddie's Wheels for Pets. Be sure and read. Such a wonderful story of what everyone has done for this sweet little pitbull.

http://www.eddieswheels.com/html/featured_pets_sweet_pea.html

Kathy, I just faxed over 30 signed by employees in my office. I will work on more

Thank you Meri Lou and Kat and Darlene ----- just heard that the governor sent the bill to the policy review committee for review ---- HE HAS NOT DONE WHAT HE PROMISED AND SIGNED THE BILL WHEN IT REACHED HIS DESK... I am heartbroken, crying - people at work think I'm nuts. I swear I'm gonna get fired one of these days --- they think I'm an emotional mess, I'm sure. Cavel has stopped the killing for today awaiting the signing of the bill but I'm sure upon hearing that he sent it for review, are making plans to gear up for tomorrow.

Keep calling the governor's office - his aide is sad too - but he needs to tell the governor that people are still calling. PLEASE --- call Illinois and Texas ....we need to keep those beating hearts beating.

Thank you Pam --- sorry if I'm not getting the thanks out quickly ----- things are really moving in Texas and not moving in Illinois --- click onthe governor's online contct form and send it in --- tell him to SIGN THE BILL NOW.

Governor's Website

sorry the website didn't come accross - try this

http://www.illinois.gov/gov/contactthegovernor.cfm

I just contacted Govenor Perry's office, the Lt. Govenors office and my State Senator's offices. I hope the people of IL remember what their govenor did regarding this issue and not vote him in again.

Kat - they are calling tv and radio and trying to get people over to the gov's office to demonstrate

Thanks Meri Lou ---- keep up the fight with me ---- thank youto all of you that are helping the horses

Help keep a beating heart beating......

I just contacted the IL Govenor's office and expressed how very disappointed I was in the govenor and the fact that he has essentially lied to the good people of his state. It is also going to be my recommendation to those I know in this fine state to vote against him when election time rolls around.

This is so disappointing. If I lived in Illinois, he wouldn't get my vote for governor when he's up for re-election.

There are conflicting things now --- some say he is in the office, some say he isn't -----some think he sent the bill for policy review to make sure there is nothing bad that got slipped in - some think it is still on his desk. Some are even thinking a pro-slaughter lobbyist got to him.....no one really knows. All we can do is to keep calling, faxing, emailing his office to let him know that the whole united states does not want horse slaughter to continue. The pro slaughter folks have big pockets and are waging their little to-do in Texas because they think our minds are focused in illinois --- well we have big enough brains to focus on both states don't we????

Need all of you to continue calling, faxing, voicing your opinions against horse slaughter. WE are a powerful force.

Remember, if you go to a parade this weekend and there are horses in it-------they are very lucky horses - there are lots that aren't so lucky.

Help keep a beating heart beating........call now

CROSSPOSTING---

9740.619 in reply to 9740.611

Just talked with "Jay", Deputy Director for Correspondence for the Governor... He told me to hold on a minute... then came back and said, the Bill has passed the Policy Review Committee and is now in front of the Governor... he said the Governor has NOT taken off for Memorial Day weekend... He sais that the Governor is in Springfield... He said that there is really nothing more that he can do but forward my message to the Governor's Executive Secretary... he said that he had heard about the "language" thing... but he did not know what has transpired... he said that the bill is before the Governor and we are all waiting for him to sign it...

I told him that there were thousands of people across America who are now enraged and are ready to deluge the Governor's office with phone calls, emails, and faxes... I told him that this "stalling" is NOT being taken lightly by the people of Illinois or the poeple in America... I told him that he needs to let the Governor know that the blood of each and every horse that is bludgeoned to death while he continues to stall will be on his hands... that he is the ONLY person who has the Power and Authority to do anything NOW... Jay agreed, and said he would forward it all to the Governor's office...

With that said... I, for one am going to continue to call, fax, and email the Governor's office... He must know that we are ALL waiting for him to do the RIGHT thing!!

I just found this on the IL General Assembly web site. It was just filed today and appears to have something to do with the bill sitting on the Governor's desk. It now goes one step further adding restrictions on selling for animal consumption. This maybe came from the policy review committee. I hope so
Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Horse Meat Act. Provides that if and only if House Bill 1711 of the 95th General Assembly, in the form it passed the House, becomes law, it is unlawful for any person to sell horse meat for animal consumption unless the horse meat is clearly stamped, marked, and described as horse meat for animal consumption. Amends the Illinois Equine Infectious Anemia Control Act and the Humane Care for Animals Act to make related changes. Effective immediately.

if you want to see something really sweet that will just make your heart feel good, go to www.maretarecom/cams.htm and then click on the live cams on the left side. Then click on mythic friesians ---- this little foal was just born today and is so active.

thanks MeriLou---- they were wondering it had anything to do with zoos and the like ---- Cavel can't afford to stay open with only zoo business.

I think they are attempting to cover all basis and make it so difficult for these low life people to stay in business

Kathy is that website address correct? It says it doesn't exist so I can't see the foal.

Kathy, Meri-Lou, GOD BLESS You guy's for all YOUR EFFORTS! Praying all goes in favor of LIFE!
VIVA LA VIVI!!
Rosa

Good to hear from you again, Rosa!

Kathy, the fax # for the Govenor of IL is not working. I got back all 30 I sent saying inc (incomplete). Im going to hold off sending them because I believe he is now going to sign the bill with this new amendment in place. I think that is why Cavel has shut down for today. They do not want to get stuck with merchandise they are unable to sell

Pam, Still here LURKING. WAITING For any VIVI news.
Always on my MIND, FOREVER in my HEART she will be!
VIVA LA VIVI!
Rosa

it should be - unless I mistyped --- which is a very good possibility - I'm so upset.

www.marestare.com then click on the left side "live cams: scroll down to mythic fresians and click on that --- the cam should come up

MeriLou - they think they either shut them off or they are so bombarded that nothing is going thru......Cavel has finished killing all that they received today --- 4 trailers full - 400+ little hearts that are no longer beating. Hopefully, the gov will sign - BUT -- does that mean that the trucks will instead head to canada or mexico if illinois is closed? WE need SB 311 passed in Washington DC --- we need to get our elected officials to do what we elected them to do----speak for US - not for who lines their pockets. Wish Bush was smart enought to just make it a law but knowing him, he is probably pro-slaughter.

My understanding is that these bills are being written to make it illegal to sell or transport to anyone that is going to slaughter horses for consumption

Pam - did you get it to work?

they are but then need to be careful with the wording as there are always others trying to find a loophole --- either human consumption or all consumption......transportation --- that would keep them from shipping to canada or mexico ---- what is disappointing to me is that you get it passed and then they appeal and you go thru it all over again and then another state starts up and you go thru it with that state and then the national bills and they go back and forth ---- very tiring.

I got in Kathy. Not sure if it was your typing or my new bi-focals that were the culprit. LOL.
I couldn't get the cam to work but I'll try again. I saw a picture of Mythic Friesans. What a beauty!!
