From search coordinator Bonnie Folz:
<<Vivi Update - Januray 1, 2007
I hope everyone had the best of holidays and a happy New Year.
Just wanted to let everyone know that though our search for Vivi may have slowed down, Team Vivi is still at work.
Despite our last call of Vivi’s sighting, a month or so back, at Freedom Drive and Park Lane South in Forest Park, and our efforts to flood the area with flyers, door-hangers and hand-outs, no new calls have come in. The camera at the feeding station that’s been set up has produced pictures of cats and very fat raccoons. If Vivi is still out on her own, we at least have been fortunate to have unseasonably warmer weather here in New York City, and there are many places she could find shelter and food.
We have received a few calls that tell us “I saw someone walking your dog” and those calls are being followed up on with volunteers staking out the areas, but this may take some time to confirm. We do ask that the caller keep an eye out and to take a picture of the dog if they can. If it is Vivi the callers claim to see being walked, we know she is at least in a home where she’s provided food, warmth and exercise.
The possibility still remains that Vivi was picked up by someone passing through Queens and brought to another location, possibly outside of Queens or outside of New York for that matter. It’s important that as many veterinarians, pet shops and groomers outside of New York City are made aware that Vivi is still missing and may be in their neighborhood. So, please, if you live outside of NYC, hand out a flier or two to your veterinarians, groomers and pet-supply stores. Speak to your friends and neighbors as well.
Our thanks go out to Liz Rhoades and the people at the Queens Chronicle, as Vivi, with her photo, was mentioned once again in their year-end newspaper, “The Top 10 of 2006, A look back at the stories that shaped Queens.”
Never-ending thanks also go out to Denise Flaim and the folks at Newsday for allowing us to keep Vivi’s plight alive with the Newsday blog.
If you have time, please send them a thank you as they have been extremely helpful getting the word out about Vivi and helping with our search.
Team Vivi has also been doing what we can to help with the search for Ticket, the 11-year-old whippet missing in Cedartown, Ga. He has been sighted many times in the same area, and a couple of times by his owner just this past weekend. Ticket seems to be staying in one area, which, hopefully, will make capturing him an easier task than pinpointing Vivi. If anyone can lend a held with helping to capture Ticket, please contact me at Pawsativebf@aol.com. Ticket’s owners could use all the help they can get.
With every New Year come resolutions. Mine for this year have changed quite a bit from the norm, as I’m sure they have changed for many of you with all we’ve been through together in our search for Vivi. Whatever your New Year's resolutions are, I wish you success and hope they include animal companions in some way.
For everyone who sent me a card or email for the holidays, thank you. Unfortunately, time just slipped away and cards never made it out of the bag I bought them in.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and safe new year. May you be blessed with all good things.
Thanks for your continued support with Team Vivi.
I pray that Vivi, Ticket and all the lost animals find their way back to their loving homes soon.
Hug those pets!
Keep the faith!

Thanks Bonnie for the update. Hopefully soon, Vivi and Ticket will be home.
I HAVE SOME GREAT NEWS THOUGH (excuse the caps). Bailey who escaped from Northwest Airlines in Memphis, was captured this morning. After being spotted in an area of fields need the airport area, a trap was set with KFC chicken in it.
Pam checked the trap this morning, and there she was. Pam will be fostering her for a little while since the gentleman had surgery. All of you would love Pam, she is quite the animal lover and rescuer! Bailey will be in great hands.
Happy New Year's Day - one fur baby is home safe thank goodness.

Kathleen, that is absolutely fabulous news and what a wonderful way to start the New Year.
Best wishes to everyone and your animal companions for a happy, healthy New Year.
I'm especially hoping that it will be a great year for Vivi too!!
Amen, G in Maine, AMEN!
I know our ladies in New York are just exhausted with this search. They need some good news and Vivi to come home so they can have their lives back again.
Bless them all for their many hours of time given to Vivi. I know now what they have been up against after Bailey. We were very lucky that she was hungry and came to that trap. Pam was the angel though - she worked so hard for this little girl.
Thinking about all of the "Team Vivi" people out there. Over the past year we have been on a real roller coaster ride of emotions. Everyone came to this group with their hearts open to Vivi and her safe return. I am still committed to the effort and I feel in my heart that she will be safe and we will hear good news. I wish all my new friends a Happy New Year filled with only good things and I pray for our sweet girl's safe return. Thanks to everyone involved in the search who have given me back my faith and shown me that strength and compassion are still alive.
That was so wonderful news on Bailey! The trapper did saved him! Wish Vivi's little, skinny butt to go IN! Then that will be back to normal for all the Team V and footsoldiers. It has been almost 11 months long!!
I still am hoping someone did picked up Vivi and bring her in someone's house.
Now next will be Ticket and Vivi.
Lord, as the New Year dawns today
Help me to put my faults away.
Let me be big in little things;
Grant me the joy which friendship brings.
Keep me from selfishness and spite;
Let me be wise in what is right.
A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye.
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.

Candles? http://www.gratefulness.org
Kathleen, that's great news about Bailey. It's just what I needed to read. After watching the repeat of the Steve Irwin Tribute and seeing the commercials from the ASPCA showing dog Betty and her pups and a homeless black and white dog, I was a sobbing mess. This only strengthens my determination to volunteer for pet rescue as often as I can and to help with Vivi's search however I can. I'm lighting candles for all the lost, sick and abused animals out there. Hoping Ticket gets lured in this week and we get news about Vivi.
Great news about Bailey. Another lost animal found.
Everyone please keep the prayers going for ViVi, Ticket and our other lost animals.
Hooray for Bailey! Come on Ticket and Vivi.
P-L-E-A-S-E!!

You've got them ladies. I'm hopeful here!!
So, Diane K-M, how are you doing lately? Still in with the in crowd?
Exhausted but hanging in there. Keep praying and sending good energy this way.
No negative thoughts on the blog today. Let's please stay positive for our lost dogs.
Amen to that Marty!!
I haven't heard from Diane K-M in a little while and have been just a little worried about her.
I'm more worried about her pets.

i feel like poo-poo. it hurts to talk and to swallow. you know what means? NO BEER!!! BLAH!!!!! still snowing out there, my darling? i saw you guys got hit again when i was in PA.
yep - we didn't get too much with the second one - only about 8 or 9 inches - it stalled to the south and they really got it - about 4 feet - secluded a lot of livestock that they are worried about - they have the National Guard trying to drop in feed for the cows, sheep and horses. Sure hope they don't lose any - we have made them so dependent on us for food and shelter
Hello Kathy--
I'm praying for you all in Colorado!! Same with the poor animals/livestocks!!
Am glad the National guards will do the jobs delivering you all with the mails, foods and medicines!!!
Bless you all and stay safe and keep warm!! Be careful with the carbon modixides when using the thingy...(I can't remembered what to type the words!! Sorry!)
Hi Darlene!! Hope you feel batter! I didn't have any flu so far this year because I had to get the flu shots because I have a type-2 diabetes; had them for 5 years!
Take care of yourself and take it easy!
Sorry about the Bobo kidnapped you comments, doesn't meant it when Ruby sort of yelled that you're SICK!
hello Paula and Kathy!!!
Kathy - i heard and also watch the efforts to help the babies with food. it was really cool :)
you definately had a white christmas!!!!
Paula: Bobo let me go after he ran out of money due to my massive beer consunption. he couldn't afford to keep my any longer. i told him he was no match for me :)
Marty - holy cow!!!! how are you, my crazy mailing friend??? i see you flyers all over the place in the stores and such!!! I am fine - just the flu - nothing serious. probably got sick from being too close to that disgusting Jose and Debbie.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANTED DUKE, THE PITBULLS CASE NUMBER, I JUST GOT IT FROM DENISE MENENDEZ:
There were 2 case numbers..I can give you both as far as a judge’s name that I don’t know…lower case # was CEC 11207-3 And now it is 2004-00358 SC.
ROOOOBY!!!!!!! just threw it in the mailbox at lunchtime, my pet. Lois T is working on hers as well. i just got an email from her. she'll get one out later today. i admire you, Mommy - you never give up!!!! when he comes homes, you'll stay with me and we'll go and have a good time with denise and duke - deal? (or you can stay with debbie and jose - ooops. did i say that??)
I guess and address to write to might help:::::
Darlene???? I misplaced my copy of the Vets building address, do you have it? DO YOU READ ME DARLENE? HELLOOOOOOOO....
I SENT IT YOU RUBY POO POO HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHECK YOUR MAIL :)
Can someone tell me if this is the correct address to write letters on behalf of Duke - it sounds confusing to me.
First District Court – Civil
(Night Court, Small Claims, Civil Court - Islip Town Ordinance, Fifth District Court)
3105 Veteran’s Memorial Highway
Ronkonkoma, NY 11779
Darlene: Belch!
KATHY COLORADO:
Thats the rigfht address, but use the case numbers too, that way, from what we understand, the letter won't go from dept. to dept. and get lost. Thanks for writing the letter::::See my l:07 post for the case number.
Rooooby: BELCH, ACK, BELCH!!!!!
Ruby - got the numbers and the letter drafted - ready to print - just got to reading the address and it confused me - two different district courts and all. But if you are sure that is the correct address - the letter will be off and in the mail TODAY :)
Poor baby Duke - needs to go home to his mama NOW -
This was an interesting article on animal hoarding in New York, recently posted by someone. It's very interesting, what kind of people end up being animal hoarders, sometimes. Sometimes you might never guess.
From the NY Post:
CITY SAVES PETS - & THEIR 'HOARDERS'
By CARL CAMPANILE
January 2, 2007 -- Mayor Bloomberg's health czar has launched a new crusade: saving the city's sick and dying animals, The Post has learned.
City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden, the man who banned smoking in public places and trans fats from restaurants, is cracking down on "animal hoarding" to rescue thousands of malnourished pets.
The animals are often neglected by their overwhelmed and often mentally ill owners, who are addicted to collecting stray animals, officials said. These troubled hoarders can get medical and psychological help under the program.
The anti-hoarding program is a joint effort that includes reps from the Health Department, the mayor's alliance for animals, the ASPCA and the Animal Control Center. Rescued animals are brought to center for medical treatment, spayed and neutered and put up for adoption.
Since the program was launched last year, health and animal-protection workers have investigated 94 homes, said Allison Cardona, ASPCA chief hoarding prober.
In one-quarter of cases, dead animals were discovered on the foul premises, the ASPCA said. Many of the surviving pets were malnourished or sick.
"I've seen litters of kittens dead," Cardona said.
The shocking discoveries include:
* 100 cats in one house on Staten Island.
* 70 cats in a Queens apartment.
* 30 dogs in a Bronx apartment.
* 26 poodles in a Brooklyn apartment.
Rescuers said the hoarders are not intentionally committing animal cruelty.
"Animal hoarding is a psychological disorder. OFTEN, THE PEOPLE THINK THEY'RE DOING A GOOD THING BY 'SAVING' THE ANIMALS. THEY'RE OFTEN DELUSIONAL," said Jane Hoffman, president of the mayor's alliance for animals.
And some hoarders are recidivists - they often go out and collect more cats and dogs if others are taken away by authorities.
That's why the department sends social workers to link up the hoarder with medical, psychological and other services.
The program is funded through The Fund for Public Health and the Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation.
Citizens are urged to report hoarders to 311 or the ASPCA at (212) 876-7700
yep - Kathy - i think that's right. nothing in NY is ever simple and easy!!!
ok - well, I poored my heart out in the letter - pleading that he do away with the fees too....doesn't hurt - the judge will probably never see the letter itself - but numbers are what matters so everybody write and mail letters for this little pitty. His family deserves to have this matter over with.
atta, girl :) good job!!!!
Beth, are you blable?
Re: Duke
The judge who will hear Duke's case is the: Hon. James P. Flanagan; First & Fifth Court, 3105 Veterans Memorial Highway, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779; tel #: 631-854-9293.
The fax number for the courthouse is: 631-854-9683 and general info # at the courthouse is: 631-854-9673.
(Just wondering if Denise/Duke's attorney should approve fax/phone to judge so as not to prejudice Duke's case?)
Wow, Carla!! thank you!!
Roooby: you gonna ask denise or shall I?
Ruby, I've said before that I don't use psyedoneums. Have no idea who that is. Probably someone local, though -- since they raised a very interesting and highly relevant topic at the moment. Diane might have some comment on its relevance.
well, it's none of us - we already had the ASPCA, SPCA, and other pertinent numbers given to us long ago in case we did run into issues while looking for Vivi. several of the group were already involved in animal rescue and knew the numbers by heart. it's a good thing the Mayor is doing and i think it should be handled immediately for the animals' sakes.
Beth,
My reason behind my asking you if you were "blable" was the fact you posted the same message that "blable" posted on the "merry" blg yesterday sometime around 2..It was the same, word for word.Usually people don't post the same things, so you can see why I asked you the question.
Both Diane's have done alot for Vivi and that I know for a fact.
Kathy in CO - I saw on the news about the Guard dropping feed for the livestock. Wow, there is some snow out there in Colorado. I hope they can get to as many of those critters as possible. It was interesting when the reporter said that a cow could die because of dehydration even there is all that snow. Horses would eat snow for moisture but I guess cattle won't. Doesn't sound real good.
Nope - pretty scarey for the ranchers I guess. And the stock show (YUK) starts this weekend - guess some from down south and in Kansas won't be able to make it because of all the snow. Will give them a reason to up beef prices I'm sure. I just don't want any of them to die with the snow and all.
I guess cows are strange animals - maybe they don't realize snow is water. Its a shame.
Dang, steaks and burgers will be going up. Those are some of my favorite food groups.
Well, there is a hoarder among the local searchers.
I confess. At one time we had 13 cats in our home. Vet checked, clean and well fed. We are now down to 4 cats. Now Beth, why not put your mind and your mouth to some good?
Has anyone heard anything new on Ticket?
Please keep praying for Ticket.
Martha M.--So you are a cat lover, too like me! :-)
I was wondering the same thing about Ticket!
Maybe someone will know the answers???
The weather here in Altoona is so BEAUTIFUL!!! And sunny! I was out alot with Sadie, the stubborn Golden gal! :-)
Heavenly Father--
Please bring Vivi back into the sighting again to let usknow that she's OK and is still living!
Encourage Vivi to be less afraid of the trappers so she can feel comfortable to be capture safely.
And please let Ticket to be caught very soon by one of his rescuer or his mommy so he can go home.
Bless Pam who rescued Bailey and restores Bailey to her health!
Bless the foot soldier gals and Team V keep them safe and protect them from any dangers they faced.
Heal Darlene well again from the nasty flu!
In Jesus's Name...Amen!
ATTENTION: about 10 minutes ago, Pacific Time I talked to Valerie, Dante's mom...She got the biopsy report on Dante's kidney....IT WAS CANCER FREE!
Valerie is doing the happy dance.
She's having trouble keeping Dante from licking and bothering his stitches. He has a hug incision and she wondered if anyone knows of anything to keep him from getting to the incision..She's tried several different collars and none work. He's a little contortionist.
Her mom is talking about making him a little p.j. suit, with the underside closed so they'll have to remove it for him to pee..Any ideas anyone?
Also::::for what its worth, I don't consider having 6 or 7 or more dogs being a hoarder as long as they are well taken care of. I know the so called hoarder takes good care of her dogs and loves them dearly. THE END (I hope)
Martha - Just because you had 13 cats in your home, especially "vet checked, clean and well fed" you are definitely not a "hoarder." I'm sure those little felines were very blessed to have you loving them so much!
One of my aunts adores cats. She has had as many as 10-12 at a time, and they are all extremely well vetted, brushed and cleaned every day and loved all day long, and extremely well fed. She even added a large sunroom onto the back of her house with wonderful play areas, beds, etc. for her cats. That many kids should be loved like these felines of hers are would be a blessing for sure!
Beth, you need to realize what they are referring to with "hoarding." We are talking about situations where sick animals are not being taken care of, animals are living in filth and not clean, and they are not fed, watered and exercised regularly. They are talking about situations where they go in and find dead animals lying around. None of the local searchers would EVER treat their animals this way. We all know this for a fact. You do not even know these people anyway.
You are so wrong, Kathleen. I know what a hoarder is, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the number of animals. And one of the local searchers fits the bill. Check it out, why don't you?
Maybe another idea is that some cloth to cover the stitches around without removing it.
Well...Sadie had the stitches before but she keep licking because it was itching!! She never took out the stitches at all.
But with the male dogs...I don't know if that would works when you put the clothes around belly and back securely (not too tight!)
I just thought to give you one idea and trying to help you...
Wow...every time I posted all I saw was the letter "V" does it means Vivi will make the appearance soon!???
Paula, the incision needs air, cloth would be too tight, I mentioned that to Valerie..I thought it was a good idea too...His incision is massive, from him under-ribs, around his penis...He's got a huge incision site. Poor little boy!
WHOA!! A BIG incision!! Wow!!
Well somebody will coming up with something good with the ideas since when I was a little girl I only had a male collie dog that was it....most dogs I grew up was all spayed females!! Same with the cats until I got Cloudy who is a neutered male 4 years ago as a kitten.
Well, thanks anyway, Ruby! :-)
Vets sell an ointment that animals don't like the taste of, not bitter apple, but something akin to it. Put a wire basket muzzle on him, under supervision and the ointment. Should work. Can't pull the stitches out with his teeth.
There is a name who just comes on here to make vague accusations, repeatedly.
Sometimes an aloe gel works well on the stiches and I've used it on my dogs. One I have is allergic to stiches and it was the only product that calmed the inflammation. My holistic vet makes it special but maybe others vets carry something similar or another holistic vet might sell something like it. Especially consider this if the area is red and swollen.
thanks Sally..I'll mention this to the doggies ma. He's having a bad time, he keeps bothering the incision. This gal has been taking her doggie to a holistic vet. The dog had a class 3, mast cell cancer. I'm thankful as is she, that he had a clean report. Thanks for your information! (0:
KAREN MY SWEEITE, WHAT COMES AROUND, GOES AROUND...HERES A NICE BELCH FOR THAT PERSON...MINE IS ALSO A VAGUE ACCUSATION..HAAAAAAAAAAAA
Why don't we all just ignore the C from C--attle?
"Hello Everyone,
Wow, the power of prayer seems to have come through for Dante again. I just got off the phone with his surgeon and the kidney biopsy results are in - UNREMARKABLE!!!!!!!!! Thank you Lord once again!!!!!!
Now time to just focus on his recovery and getting him stronger again so we can deal with the situation on his leg.
Dante will get his stitches out next Wednesday and then we will go back again on Jan. 16 to have a followup with the surgeon regarding his leg.
Dante is doing much better today. I took him for a short walk down the street (at his pace) in hopes of getting his bowels moving so he could have a bowel movement. It worked and he seems to be feeling much better now. He is currently resting very comfortably in the living room on his bed. We will be leaving shortly to go to my parents house so my Mom and I can try and fabricate a doggie pajama that is closed on the bottom so that he cannot lick his incision site. I think he would be much more comfortable that way. Unfortunately, everything that is made currently is open on the bottom so they can go pee. I need it closed and will just have to take it off of him before going outside. Hopefully we will be successful.
I want to thank everyone for the continued support, prayers and candle lighting on Dante's behalf. He is such a lucky boy to have so many caring people praying for him and I am so lucky to have all of you for support.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! :)
Valerie, Dante, Trotter, Zipper"
At the barn we use Jason Tea Tree Soothing Gel. It stops the itching immediately, and doesn't cause the skin to become macerated by being too wet and covered. They also don't like the taste. I love the stuff for personal use, too!
maggot! I love it...will do..
Thanks for the Dante report. We need good news. That must be a huge relief for Valerie.
The correct sized collar is the only sure thing. Unfortunately it is difficult to watch a companion animal wearing one of these as they seem so awkward, restrictive and uncomfortable. There are distasteful salves to prevent licking but they shouldnt be applied to the wound or the sutures.
Go ahead and ignore me. You ignore everything that is obvious, don't you? Continue to live in your little dream world, and hide behind fake names. While animals suffer -- you claim to all love animals. Your sincerity shows the truth. Let's ignore the maggots that crawl underfoot and are too cowardly to own up to their posts.
