It's raining Afghan hounds.
Earlier this month, the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter in Chambersburg, Penn., contacted purebred rescue groups to ask for help in caring for more than 60 dogs from a multi-breed kennel seizure, including 18 of the exotic-looking sighthounds.
Among them was Scarlett (left), who is 4 or 5, and who has had several litters (including Tallah, below).
Afghan Hound fancier
s, including the national parent club and regional clubs, are providing veterinary care, foster homes, socialization and, ultimately, placement for these homeless hounds. They are not receiving financial assistance from CVAS or the municipality, and so donations are appreciated.
The condition of the dogs varies, but includes hookworms, whipworms, roundworms, giardia, Lyme disease, urine scalds, swollen lymph nodes, ear infections, tooth abscesses, dehydration, dermatitis, untreated broken bones, severe matting and undersocialization. Some are severely underweight.

Did any of you read about lost dog that was just found after 7 years?? I just saw it. The family never lost hope, their little girl was 4 when the dog ran away. Family is so happy! Hope same for Viv...but not 7 years! God Bless Vivi.

Barbaro was euthanized this morning. It was a galant fight.
I know, J. Barbaro was an inspiration to the world. On the news yesterday, the picture of him looked like he was suffering and that was hard to see. His family did the right thing. Now he can run free at the Rainbow Bridge.
I HATE horse racing. What a terrible loss of a magnificent animal, who deserved to have a long life.
...I am just so very sad...

We willl never forget Barbaro. He was such a fighter. I have his blog on my favorites tab and would check for updates daily since May. I just can't find the strength right now to remove it from my favorites. I am so use to checking up on him and now I need to somehow let go and realize there will be no more updates. I am heartbroken for him,his family and doctors. Like his last update said, REST IN PEACE BARBARO AND ENJOY RUNNING FREE AND HEALTHY IN THE FIELDS OF HEAVEN.
