i just saw him on Channel 2 news - first airing!!!
obviously, my eyes are overcome with tears!!! guys - we have to get his website and save him!!! the story was awesome and it was definately in his favor. Denise, her entire family, OUR MONICA, and Jeff, a professional dog trainer in Sufflok County, NY were all featured!!! he is so beautiful and these little kids are heart broken. they want their dog back. please - if anyone knows anyone who can lend additional help, please ask them. believe it or not, a court date hasn't even been set yet!!! this is insanity!!!!!!

Roooby: i knew you would come on. there were HUGE posters and pictures of him. they were chanting "FREE DUKE" outside of the courthouse. they showed his pen iinside and him walking the halls like he owned the place too. Jeff temperment tested him in front of cameras: pulling his ears, messing with his eyes, etc. nothing. no reastion at all. Duke just turned up and looked at Jeff with those beautiful eyes of his. they also interviewed one of the girls who has personally taken care of him for over 2 1/2 years - she said he was a mushball :) the interview ended by the reporter saying that ONE phone call recalling his stay, means lethal injection. BULL**&%%T****** that is so wrong!!!!!! you and I will get together and get something going, Ma. i will contact every branch of media and blitz them. she needs a fund raiser for him and we have to think of how.Debbie, Monica and Lois are on board coming on as well. instead of coming here and fighting, we can research people who may help Denise and Duke. we have to!!!!!

I just received an e-mail from Joy Ward of Dogster Bark and she posted about Vivi and Ticket. I had forgotten to tell her what town so I e-mailed her back that it's Cedartown. Hope someone from Dogster is in that area and will be able to help. I can't believe that Duke's court date hasn't been set. Maybe if some well known expert can speak on his behalf, Duke will finally get to go home. Just grasping for a new angle.

Jeff is well known as one of the best behaviorists in Long Island. he is the man who saved Duke, the Bulldog also sentenced to death for no reason. we are hoping that perhaps the guilty verdict will be overturned as per NY Agricultural laws (biting an animal inlieu of a human being.) BUT there basically is no evidence supporting him even biting the animal. i know Denise would appreciate your convern. she's a sweetie. and Ticket?? oh, how I hope each day for some good news!!!!!!

That's good to hear, Darlene. I've been in South Carolina visiting my oldest son and it's been beautiful here all week and getting warmer. Darlene, I was trying to get to NY 3 different times when I was in Philly visiting family and my college age son, but each time it was either too hot or too cold and my 12 year old daughter's asthma was acting up so I had to get her back home. She would love to help also as she has donated to the fund before. I'm still trying to get there. I've wanted to help all of you on the ground as I know you could use extra feet and eyes.

Sheryl--I think the greenies are a clever idea, maybe a greenie bone, or two. They are small bones out because of the holiday/ and doggie stockings. It sure is worth a try. I doubt they would hurt the raccoons if they tried...just give them fresh breath and a whiter smile!! I'll be back later. The mood is positive, and that's got to help all of our causes.

I am going to try and think of celebrities that are pitbull admirers or anybody else that has some clout in order to see if Duke can get more publicity. I suppose Denise is already involved in the pitbull rescue groups by now.

Interesting at the end that the reporter says the neighbor who accused Duke and his lawyer have no comment. They don't like it when it gets out there in the court of public opinion and everyone can see what is going on.

Another thing: today I saw a white whippet with dark markings being walked in Manhattan. I scurried through the crowds of shoppers to get closer. Not Vivi.

BOONE PICKENS is a rich oil man in Texas who airlifted 50 ( I believe), may have been more like 500 I can't remember, dogs from hurricane Katrina to a Texas shelter on a private jet.He is a true animal lover but a tough man. I have his Email but I don't want to post it. You would have to have all your facts in order before you contacted him. Nothing soppy-just the facts.If someone wants to give it a try I will be happy to give you his Email address. I did have his company phone # but I don't anymore. He did not air lift these dogs because of anything I did. It just happens I heard about what he did while I was working on the katrina dogs and just wanted to thank him. It might be worth a try for Duke.

Please don't think of leaving out greenies. Dogs can choke on them. They're only O.K. for a dog if you are watching him while he's chewing.

Be very careful with the type Greenie you buy..They have caused the death of quite a few dogs and now I see them advertised as "easy to digest"..When the dogs were operated on, the Greenies were huge lumps and chunks in their stomachs..

I found 4 celebrities that have pit bulls and emailed the info to Darlene so that she can use her gift of gab on "their people." Who knows Duke could have a celebrity in his corner soon!

Because of the problems they were having with greenies, I heard the formula for making them is changed. The small ones say easy to digest. The cat type are a bit different than the dog ones, I suppose. The kitty type are the only ones I've had any experience with, and I don't just leave them out.

A fetching finish for a 2-year mystery
Dog lost in Florida turns up in Illinois

Alice Baines could not find him on the block. She could not find him near the dock. She could not find him here nor there. She could not find him anywhere.

But two years after a hurricane blew down a back-yard fence in Florida and set free a golden retriever named Sam-I-Am, the wayward pooch was found in McHenry County.

In the most unlikely of reunions Thursday night, Sam-I-Am ran across the tiled floor at O'Hare International Airport and rested his head on the arm of owner Baines, who flew to Chicago from her home in Tampa to retrieve him.

"I can't believe it," she said. "This kind of thing doesn't happen."

Veterinarians in McHenry County were stunned as well when they discovered a microchip in the scruff of the dog's neck that placed his home more than 1,200 miles to the southeast.

"I've never seen anything like it," said McHenry County animal control officer Sean Graff.

`Have you got him?'

On Thursday night, Brett Baines, 9, waited in Florida for the return of his canine pal. The boy last saw the dog in 2004 after the hurricane ripped up a fence outside the family's home.

"He is so excited, I have 10 messages on my phone," Baines said. "Each one says, `Have you got him? Have you got him? Have you got him?'"

Just how Sam-I-Am made the journey from Tampa to Johnsburg, a small town on Pistakee Lake in McHenry County, may never be known.

A resident found the 5-year-old dog wandering along Circle Court earlier this week and took him to the McHenry County animal shelter.

Though few animal owners take advantage of relatively cheap microchip technology, veterinarians in McHenry County do a routine scan of all dogs brought to the shelter, said Dr. Edin Mehanovic, the animal control administrator.

McHenry County officials called the veterinarian who had placed the chip in Sam-I-Am when he was a puppy, whose office Baines said she had been calling on and off since the hurricane.

"I just kept checking and yesterday around 5 o'clock, they called and said, `We got a call from Illinois and we have a chip match,'" Baines said. "They said, `It's him, it's got to be him.'"

Baines booked the first flight to what she called "the Land of Oprah."

For all the mileage, it appears that Sam-I-Am is no worse for the wear.

"The dog is in very good shape," Mehanovic said. "I can't see how the dog could walk that far."

Microchip costs $40

Mehanovic and Graff said Sam-I-Am is a poster pup for microchip technology. Implanting a chip costs about $40, Graff said.

"This is a perfect example of what a microchip can do," Graff said. "A dog can lose a collar or someone can take it off, but the microchip never comes off."

Given the cost of last-minute airfare from Florida to Illinois, Mehanovic said the county's $45 claiming fee for stray dogs was waived.
