The third in an occasional series that introduces Vivi searchers near and far.
Name: Bonnie Folz
Location: Howard Beach, N.Y., USA.
Age: 41 — “I’m told it’s the new 21.”
Occupation: Sales coordinator by day, dog trainer by night, Vivi search coordinator/volunteer in between.
Family: Happily married to Billy, “the best man.” Owned by two Pharoah hounds — 10-year-old “Peanut” (MBIF DC Kamlyn's Ka Phoenix, MC, CD, RN, CGC, TDI) and 4 year-old “Glory” (Ch. TiaRa's Red, White & Ablu, CGC) — as well as a 2-year-old smooth-collie
rescue “Skipper” (Th'Reasn Skipper Doo CGC). “And waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge, my sweet boy, all-American mix rescue ‘Buster,’ CGC.”
What the unitiated think of her Pharaohs: “They’ll ask, ‘What is that, a red Doberman?’ Some people think they’re overgrown Chihuahuas — or kangaroos.”
Hobbies: “Proudly owner-handling my dogs in conformation and obedience, attending dog shows, lure-coursing, straight-racing, going to and participating in car shows (we have a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda) and gardening.”
Comfort food: Baskin & Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Shake.
How long she thought the search would take when she first volunteered: A day or so.
Hardest thing about coordinating the Vivi search: “Working with so many good people with varying opinions and not being able to please them all.”
Weirdest prediction a psychic has made: That Vivi was on a boat with a bunch of sailors heading to France. Oh, yes, and she was wearing a little hat.
Number of hours a day she spends on Vivi-related stuff: Between phone calls, emails, feeding stations and fliers, two to four hours.
Most common questions asked about Vivi: “Do you really think it's her?” and “How has she survived?”
Thing she wishes people would understand about the search: “Have patience. T
hat will eventually bring Vivi back.”
Most embarrassing thing her dog’s ever done: Taste-testing some of Billy’s party food — then clearing the room with her nuclear gas. All night long.
Her most vivid Vivi dream: “I’m standing in the middle of a street with [diehard searcher] Rosa, talking to a resident about Vivi being sighted in the area. Vivi turned the corner and started to walk toward us. I screamed for Rosa to turn around, which startled Vivi, and she ran off without Rosa seeing her.”
Most touching moment of the search: She can’t decide. Was it watching Vivi’s breeder Bo Bengtson frantically searching through Flushing Cemetery in the damp cold after receiving a call five minutes earlier that she was being fed bread through the fence? Was it responding to a call that Vivi was dead on the Belt Parkway, then finding the white, black and brown carcass that was someone’s pet beagle? Or was it holding those puppies from Montefiore Cemetery, “knowing that because of Vivi being lost, they were found”?
Most annoying thing about the media (except Denise, of course): “Media, annoying? I think the media is great! They've helped keep the story that Vivi is still missing out there. It doesn’t matter that they waste hours of the volunteers’ time on photos (pose this way, look that way), stupid questions and phone calls throughout the day and night, only to pick apart the answers that you give them, misquote you, omit important info you want to be in the story, and sometimes make you look foolish. Nah, I don't think the media is annoying at all.”
Favorite Queens landmark: Shea Stadium. “LET'S GO METS!”
If Vivi were a celebrity, who would she be? Elvis, natch.
Biggest hit at her annual luau last month: As always, the Jell-O shots, though the rattlesnake pasta (it's got bite!) was up there, too.
Telltale sign that she’s an optimist: “I'm still searching and keeping the faith!”

Nice interview Bonnie
HI EVERYONE!
WE HAVE A PLAN GOING TO PUT UP THOSE LARGE POSTERS THAT EVERYONE WAS SO KIND IN SENDING US MONTHS AGO ON ALL MAJOR INTERSECTIONS!!
IT WORKED VERY WELL WHEN VIVI WAS IN BAYSIDE AND FLUSHING, SO I WANT TO TRY IT AROUND FOREST PARK AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS!
I MADE SOME PHONE CALLS AND TOOK AN INVENTORY OF WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE AND WE HAVE ALOT OF FLYERS BUT ONLY A FEW POSTERS LEFT.
SO....
ON BEHALF OF US KOOKS HERE IN NEW YORK I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE MAKING SOME UP AND SENDING THEM TO DIANE TAMM!!
AS FAR AS I CAN SEE THERE IS NOT ALOT OF THOSE FAT WOODEN POLES BUT RATHER THINNER LIGHT AND STREETS SIGN POLES SO WE WILL HAVE TO USE TAPE INSTEAD OF STAPLES ON THEM.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS SHOULD BE AROUND 20" LONG AND 25" WIDE (I DON'T WANT THEM TO WRAP AROUND THE POLE)
NICE BRIGHT NEON COLORS
HERE IS WHAT THE POSTERS SHOULD HAVE ON THEM
--------------------------
LOST WHIPPET
PICTURE OF VIVI (HER LEFT SIDE WITHOUT BRINDLE DOWN THE LEG)
DO NOT CHASE
PLEASE CALL IMMEDIATELY
DAY OR NIGHT
877 – JFK –VIVI
917-626-1374
SMALLER LETTERS
REWARED
-------------------------------
I HAVE THIS IN A WORD DOCUMENT AND WAS HOPING I COULD COPY IT HERE, BUT OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT WORK, SO IF YOU WANT ME TO SEND IT TO YOU JUST EMAIL ME AND I WILL.
PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS AND I REALLY REALLY REALLY DO APPRECIATE THIS.
IT SEEMS WE ARE BACK TO SQUARE ONE AGAIN!!
And beautiful picture of your dog !!!
One day while I was doing a search I had Bonnie's dog Glory with me and the thicket was soo dense that I kind of panicked and I said to Glory "get me out of here". Glory took the lead and found the path of least resistance too get us out of there... She is my hero!!
Here I go being a dummy again REWARD NOT REWARDED
Hey kathy, great idea with the big neon posters again, they sure caught the peoples eyes and you could see them from afar, can't tell you how many we made up and plastered all over. The day you had Glory was that the people magazine day?
I took her for a walk around the parking lot and she is one strong little girl, she was intrigued at the battery operated race cars and kept barking at them. It was priceless to see her expression.
I remember Glory with the cars that day, she had a ball and yes, it was the day of the People Magazine shoot. I am getting my taping hands ready and already purchased the box of bandaides... Do I need to get you a box also??
Hey Bonnie. I know you don't read the blog but if you are reading this: How about after we find Vivi we have a BURN THAT DAMN MAP party and dance around it like a bunch of lunatics????
Just a suggestion. Since we have not had a sighting in SO long, and since the volunteers will be trying to post possibly some large areas, does anyone think maybe a few large ads in the newspaper might be beneficial again?
Might even mention the possibility of pups to encourage anyone hearing pups to check out the location as well. If there are little Vivi "look alikes" out there, they will probably start wandering and making lots of noises soon!
Bonnie - Glory is indeed beautiful. I had never heard of this breed before seeing yours from the Vivi blog. I'm assuming they are also a sighthound.
ANOTHER ANIMAL RESCUER NEEDS OUR PRAYERS AND MORAL SUPPORT!
I found this on craigslist.com. This lady is asking for support in contacting the media. She is in Altoona, PA. I can't believe this woman was put in jail for saving a dog's life! Read this and see how determined and brave she is when it comes to protecting animals!

OK, everyone, if you're getting this e-mail it means the police
followed through on their threat to put me in jail for taking Doogie
today.
Here is the background info:
We got a call from Kim in East Freedom this morning, crying because
Doogie hadn't gotten up since Saturday. She had been calling the
Central Pennsylvania Humane Society since Saturday to no avail. We told
her we aren't law officers, and she needed to call the humane officer.
Then we got another call about the same dog, from another person who
passes him every day. At that point we called Kim back to see if she'd
heard from the Humane Officer. She had not, so we promised her we'd go
out and see what we could do. When we got there, we took photos and
video of Doogie. We initially thought he was dead, as he was not moving
and his back was to us. We found out that the people were not home to
talk to about him, so I made the decision that he could not lay there
on the cold wet ground for one moment longer, and I would accept all
consequences of my decision.
The neighbor Kim has agreed to testify on my behalf if necessary. She
cried the whole time we were there, you can hear her on the video.
I think once you see the video and pictures, you'll understand why I
made this decision.
The vet documented his general negligent condition, low weight, sores,
missing fur, and took xrays of his back and hips. He determined that he
has very bad back spurs that are causing him a lot of pain and are most
likely responsible for his inability to walk. He also saw an
undetermined mass near his hip on the xray. He gave him a shot for pain
plus some B vitamins for energy, so that perhaps he could have even one
good day or a few good hours. He wrote a letter stating his condition
in case we needed it.
Shortly after we got Doogie to my home, situated, bathed (had to, the
stench was too bad), and fed and watered an Officer Flag called from
the Freedom Township Police Department (I know, Freedom, isn't that
ironic?). He wanted me to return Doogie, which I refused to do.
Here's what I need from you all. View the videos and photos, below. I
think you'll agree with me that this is NOT acceptable in ANY kind of
humane society, and we cannot allow this kind of animal abuse. We MUST
stand up and STOP accepting this to be ok for people to do to their
dogs, and STOP jailing those who are trying to help them.
I could never look myself in the eye again, much less sleep tonight,
had I left Doogie there dying, shivering in the dirt. I will spend the
rest of my life in jail as opposed to handing him over to be abused
further by these people.
Please, contact ALL media with these photos and videos. Get justice,
for Doogie and for me. Do NOT allow this treatment of those who are
here to help, and who actually care. Call the Pennsylvania Humane
Society and tell them you expect them to stand with me against this
kind of abuse.

Don't stop until there is Justice for Doogie and ME! I'm just not
tolerating this kind of treatment, for either of us. No one should.
Tammy
Way to go Bonnie, 21! HA! We all wish we were 21 again!
Why don't we all email/call the Altoona Mirror in PA and ask them to give a lot of coverage to Tammy and poor Doogie.
A call to Officer Flag might be a good idea. Just to let him know that perhaps his job should entail more than just following orders.
The PA Humane Society should be contacted because they really dropped the ball on an investigation into this horrendous abuse. It is their responsibility to stand behind these animals. Shame on all involved who did nothing.
It is too awful to imagine that poor precious dog being allowed to get in this condition and let him lay there day after day. Bless those who did get involved and acted to save this pups life.
Thanks Bonnie for everything you are doing. Your dog is beautiful.
Loretta,
If your still reading the blog is there anyway you could do a story on Doogie? I find this horrendous.
Bonnie, your commitment to Vivi is awe inspiring. Everyone who loves Vivi thanks you with all their heart and soul. You are truly the BEST!!!
Hey kathy thanks for the bad aids but i have gotten to be a pro with the tape gun even though I hate it, would you believe I lost 2 more staplers, I have thousands of flyers in my car and no stapler unless it's buried amongst the menagerie of flyers and dog food and case of water, I have not seen the bottom of my trunk in months. Maybe I'll rent a plane and drop the flyers, that should get a town covered real fast.
Debbie, great idea dropping flyers from a plane. Maybe we should hang from one of those ladders looking down on the parks and cemeteries with infrared night goggles and a bionic ear on.
I have just emailed the Altoona Mirror asking if they have or if they will get involved with coverage Tammy's and Doogie plight.
The video and the pictures are extremely hard to look at and the comments from some of the viewers says it all. A simple email or phone call may help bring about changes to situations of abuse. If nothing else media coverage will embarrass some agencies into action of some sort. If they come from out of state, all the better (national attention)!!!!
Kathy do not laugh Darlene and I wanted to get a ladder and climb a tree by the pond, our luck it would fall and we'd be stuck up there and noone would come help us. hehe, we even thought of trampolines and the ladder from the plane, how about stilts with the bionic ear and infra reds. What a pretty sight, don't forget the miners hat with the light attached.
I'm in!!
hey i've got hard hats that we can attach lights to!
Great Bio Bonnie, beautiful dog.
Keeping the faith for VIVI in Texas.
Hey Monica, and you got the rain gear which is a plus in case we get stuck up there in the rain.
I started to watch the video of the dog on the ground, had to stop it, I could not bear to see this animal, he kind of looks like Sniffles and it killed me, this owner should be left outside tied up on the ground just like they did to this dog. What is it with people and having pets. Why get one to treat it like this, they deserve a good slap to the back of the head a few times to knock some sense into them.
Debbie, what a picture: stuck in a tree with rain gear on, with lit hard hats on, with the bionic ear on and looking through the infrared binoculars! Hopefully there's room in one hand for a beer!!!
Oh, I think they need a bit more than a slap to the back of the head! Maybe a drill thru their stupid brains should do it, their not using them anyway.
Maybe we should contact the Governor or PA. Wasn't he the one trying to get rid of the puppy mills. I would really be surprised if he would not be willing to help out with this situation about Doogie and Tammy.
Kathy I could see you right now, if you want I will hold them down for you. Like i said before what are they thinking and where do they have their head buried, I am sure they are nice and fed in a comfortable bed those, I will not say it and the blog will not print it. I have called the humane society on many people and will keep doing it if i see an amimal that needs help.
Kathleen, is this something you would have time to do for Doogie and Tammy??
Debbie, we can borrow my husbands drill!! What size drill bit do you think we should use? Maybe we need to take a ride on some weekend to this idiots house and show him how New York handles jerks like him! After we finish with him, his nurse will be feeding him baby food thru a straw..
new post
Kathleen -
Yes, I would be honored to do this. Does anyone remember the Governor's name so I can look up his info and e-mail and call him tomorrow?
Also, if she needs counsel I may have some friends from the ACLU which might be able to help her get some counsel service. One is a HUGE animal lover here in Memphis.
Hi Gang - Coming out of lurk mode to comment on the garbage that had that poor dog chained like that.
Kathy - a regular drill is too gentle - we should use one of those hammer drills, or maybe a jackhammer altogether.
People like that make me sick.
Thats great Kathleen! I am sure Tammy would also appreciate it and if you find out any additional information on how Doogie is doing, please let us know ok?
Hey Lois T - AMEN!
I have e-mailed a very good friend who is an attorney and also a real animal lover. I will let you know if he can help in any way. In the meantime, will try to locate info on the governor tomorrow as well. Ann is my best friend who works with Scott too and another huge animal lover.
--------------------
Hey Scott and Ann -
This info was posted on one of the animal rescue blogs tonight that I participate in. Scott, I am hoping you might have some contacts with attorneys who are real animal lovers or ACLU members in Pennsylvania who might be able to help this poor lady, Tammy. Please read this story, but especially view the video. Someone needs to help her out for her kindness to this poor animal PLEASE.
Lois a regular drill will leave a nice small hole that won't be detectable outright. This way Debbie and I can make our get-a-way without drawing too much attention to ourselves. If we smash his head in we might get blood on us and CSI would do a DNA test and find out it was the idiots blood. This way we can walk away nice and calm like without anyone being the wiser. You think I watch too much CSI?
You are welcome Kathleen. I had been contemplating trying to speak to this governor anyway. I wanted to get info from him about how to legally go about trying to extend the campaign and law against puppy mills into my area as well.
This will give me that opportunity hopefully. I have a feeling I might be able to get Scott's legal help on this as well if I can find out how to go about campaigning against it.
Anyone work in a hospital and can get Debbie and I some of those booties they wear in surgery??
You've got a good point there, Kathy. Regular drill it will be. But one can never watch too much CSI!!
While checking out the site where Tammy's videos are posted, I found this one for Cordelia's Rescue. Please view with the sound. It is a beautifully done slide presentation with music. It depicts the sad faces of rescues who are shown later after their help and loving homes.
Get your Kleenex ready though. You will cry, but it will make what animal rescue people do so much more real and rewarding and leave you with a joy for the ones that are helped!

Kathleen, the Gov of PA is Gov. Randall who is pretty popular. He is a good guy and I'm proud that my hometown is Philadelphia. I think he held office there before.
Thanks Susan. I will try to reach him. Maybe I should get my stepfather from the Lewisburg and Smoken Dam (sp?) area on my phone. He might be able to drum up that Pennsylvanian accent again after we have somewhat "Southernized" him (hee, hee).
Maybe the Governor will help. Sure hope so.
I just received this from the Altoona Mirror in response to my email to them regarding Doogie and Tammy and media coverage:
"Dear Editor,
Please cover the terrible travesty of justice regarding this dying dog who was left chained to a dog house in terrible pain. For the police to arrest the rescuer is unbelievable. This woman is known throughout the country for her good work. The actions of the police department should be thoroughly investigated and the officers charged with neglect of duty.
Where is the arrest of the dog's owners who left him to die in pain? The pictures are compelling and show the conditions the dog was in. I also wonder about the condition and safety of the other dog shown in the photos. People who would treat a dog as they did should not have any animals. They should also face charges of abuse and neglect.
This story is receiving national attention and yet I see nothing in your online version. Please cover the story.
Thank you.
Marie"
With more involvement from you wonderful bloggers we can make a difference!
Kathleen, I bet the PA Governor will be more than willing to listen to you. You speak the truth and this truth is from the heart as well as from the head! You are a very compelling person who seeks justice for those that cannot seek it themselves.
Check out the Altoona Mirror and the writeup regarding Doogie/Jake?(I thought the pups name was Doogi)and Tammy:
http://altoonamirror.com/news/articles.asp?articleID=4757
Can you believe that the owners say they want the dog back because he is part of their family (tearful plea I might add). Disgusting.
Here is the story in the Altoona Mirror:
Dog organization founder arrested
By Mark Leberfinger, mleberfinger@altoonamirror.com
EAST FREEDOM — The founder of a national dog protection organization was arrested Monday for stealing an allegedly mistreated dog from a Freedom Township family, Freedom Township police said Tuesday.
Tammy Sneath Grimes, 42, of Box 620, Tyrone RD 5, was released on $50,000 unsecured bail following her arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner.
Steve and Lori Arnold, the dog’s owners, want back Jake, a 19-year-old German Shepherd-Black Labrador mix.
Township Police Chief John Reilly says Grimes refused to return the dog.
Grimes, who received a call from a neighbor about the dog, says she doesn’t regret taking the dog and her arrest.
“We thought he was dead. He was lying and not moving,” Grimes said. “It’s a sad state in America that I’m arrested for helping a dog and the owners aren’t arrested for abuse.”
The Arnolds say Jake, now dubbed Doogie by Grimes, was not abused. He always had proper food and water. He did have arthritis.
“Our case has nothing to do with any rescue of a dog,” Reilly said. “There were no reports of abuse prior to this incident. Whether or not the dog has been abused, we don’t know. If there was, we would turn that over to the [Central Pennsylvania] Humane Society, who is better equipped to handle such cases.
“Our concern is that she [Grimes] illegally entered the property and took the dog. She admitted to having the dog and refused to give him back.”
Grimes heads Tipton-based Dogs Deserve Better, an organization working to bring dogs from out of backyards and into family homes.
Lori Arnold said her family had planned to euthanize the dog.
“But do you know how hard that is to do?” she said.
Jake was reported missing about 4 p.m., court documents state. A neighbor told Lori Arnold that a dog catcher was responsible for taking the dog.
The trail eventually led to Grimes, who admitted she had no permission to enter the property and take the dog, police said.
“I just want my dog back,” Steve Arnold said with his voice cracking and tears welling in his eyes. “He’s part of my family, and the judge just left her go. I didn’t get my dog back. I want justice to prevail.”
Grimes declined to say where the dog is staying.
“He’s on medication. He’s eating, drinking and even walking a little bit,” she said.
Mirror Staff Writer Mark Leberfinger is at 946-7462.
Lori Arnold needs a lesson in compassion. And I damn well know how hard it is to euthanize a dog..so please don't get on my case about that.
It's all about the money. People don't want to pay to put their animal out of it's misery they wait for the animal to suffer and go on it's own.
Mila - You are so wonderful. Hopefully this will get the attention that is needed soon. At least we know she is out on bail and the dog is safe for now.
I have forwarded the article from the newspaper also to my attorney friend, Scott. I hope to talk to him later today to see if he has any ideas or knows any attorneys in this area that could assist this poor lady.
In the meantime, I will try contacting the Governor today (probably around my lunchtime).
Keep the faith and keep writing and complaining to the media. This kind of neglect and abuse has got to stop, and this is the group that can make a difference.
I have also e-mailed Denise Flaim with this info from the blog since I feel she might not follow everything on the blog closely. Maybe she can also help us get some media attention. I'm sure she could get an article in Newsday for us, and I just bet she will.
In the new post, Bo mentions people have reservations about Harry - can someone tell what and why there are reservations?
what can Denise Flaim do about the article and the woman Kathleen? I'm confused..Media attention? Unconfuse me huh?
I am hoping that Denise can get a large article into Newsday about this injustice, and also I am hoping she knows some other people she could forward the info to at our websites, newspapers, etc. Just kind of help with a media blitz is my idea. Thanks Ruby, guess I did not make myself clear in my post. Sorry.
Kathy in Colorado, as with any venture there are always certain matters that need to be addressed. All matters in this particular venture have been addressed and resolved to everybody's satisfaction.
I'm chiming in with Kathy in Colorado - could these reservations be explained somewhat?
Thank you all - my question has been answered
I was misinterpreting the post from Bo. Thanks for responding. I should keep my big nose out of this stuff!
Pam - Are you the Pam who has been ill? If so, how are you doing? You are Dante and Trotter's Mom too, right? Lord I have trouble keeping everyone straight and all the animals. Old age is taking its toll on my memory! If so, how are they also?
No - I'm not the Pam who has been ill. My babies are Mabel (airplace rider) and Jadzia (the Husky).
Plus a few other assorted additions. I don't post very often so I can see how it can get confusing with more than one person with the same name.
Jadzia is a polish name right. I grew up with a girl of the same name.
hey, guys!!!!! i'm back from PA and in one piece too :) long time - no blog. missed you guys and wish i had come home to better news about our girl. hey, ruby - miss me????
Jadzia - came from the show "Star Trek - DS9". My husband is a trekkie fan. I never knew that the name was Polish - Thanks for the info.
