Team Vivi is cautiously optimistic about a sighting that came in today.
Diehard searcher Rosa Chile received a call today from a woman who said she heard thirdhand that Vivi was running on 99th Street between 64th and 65th avenues in Rego Park.
The woman said she has been on the lookout for Vivi since she was lost more than seven months ago. She said a passerby told her that someone else told her that she had seen a dog matching Vivi's description, and that it appeared frightened, but was unclear on the time frame, though it was recent.
This area is several blocks east of where a tenuous Vivi sighting was called in last week by a man who could not give any additional identifying information on the dog. It is north of Forest Park, where Vivi was last seen by multiple park visitors in early August. It is also southwest of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, where Vivi was sighted in late March.
Search coordinator Bonnie Folz confirms that she is working on bringing in a tracker -- likely either Laura Totis or Sam Connelly, both of whom have tracked Vivi before. In addition to checking Rego Park, the tracker will search other areas that New York-based searchers think are potential places for Vivi to hide.

The good and the maybe! I hope it is Vivi with all my heart!...The good is, maybe, just maybe it's Vivi. I feel bad that she "appeared frightened" but I can't blame the poor dog! We need to get somone in to help the Team Vivi find Vivi before it's too late. I'm having such a hard time with this whole thing and I can understand why Lois has called it quits!
I love each one of the gals who have, for 7 months, searched for Vivi..Their families have suffered I'm sure with their absence..
Lois has put in hours on the "books" and should get many pats on the back for her hard work! Feel better Lois! There are many others who need pats and hugs too!
Let this sighting be Vivi and let her be rescued!

Vivi, You are God's loving, obedient creature. God calls you to your right place, and right volunteer, quickly and safely. Listen to His voice, come to the spot where you can go home to Jil. Good Shepherd call and bring this beautiful little dog to safety. She has been on the road long enough, and wants to follow You so she can return to Jil. (Amen)

I spent the first 25 years of my life living in a building at 97th Street and 62nd Drive in Rego Park. Just so the searchers know, this development (Park City, which runs along 62nd Drive and 63rd Road and 97th Street almost to 99th Street) has a couple of above-ground (actually, they're on top of large garages) park-like areas between them that are pretty quiet and may make a comfortable hiding place for Vivi, since there isn't much action there.
There also is a courtyard area behind P.S. 206 (which is between 97th Place and 98th Street, just off Horace Harding Expressway) that might have a good hiding nook or two.
And Park City Estates, on 98th Street between 62nd Drive and Horace Harding Expressway, also has some isolated spots. I know we managed to find them when we were kids, and I bet a scared dog could find them, too.

We drive in, park in the garage, spend the days at the dog shows, take cabs to your great restaurants...that is my NYC experience!

I think it is cool that in these recent days we have had people we either haven't heard from in awhile, (justpaul reappeared in the middle of last week's uproar and no one even commented) or completely new voices coming in to add their perspective or throw in some ideas.
No Linda, I'm 90 minutes away in Southern New Jersey now. But I remember all the hiding places we had as kids in the neighborhood, spots that a frightened little dog might like, too, spots that searchers who aren't as intimately acquainted with the neighborhood might not know about. I only want to help. It breaks my heart to think of any dog being lost and alone.

Strengthen them with your love and presence and carry them through the struggles they are facing. Shed your light upon them and give them your peace, healing and comfort. Continue to lead and give your wisdom to your army. Lead them at all times in the direction they need to go to find Vivi. Continue to nurture and care for Vivi with your loving care and presence. Keep her from all evil and danger as you lead her to the meeting place you have prepared. Bring her to the rescuer you have chosed today and fill us with your joy and laughter of sweet deliverance.
