Diehard Vivi searcher Rosa Chile confirms that a caller reached her last night around 6 p.m. claiming to see Vivi in the vicinity of Queens Center Mall.
Rosa says the caller sounded like an older man with a heavy Russian or Eastern European accent. He was likely calling from a pay phone, and Rosa was not able to call him back and establish more details.
Rego Park (short for "Real Good Construction Company," which developed the area in the 1920s ) is a very densely populated area, with active subway stops, major shopping areas and very little open green space.

Rego Park also borders Forest Park.

Gail and I were just talking the other day on how everytime tracking dogs come in Vivi appears. This is not the first time this has happened.
I have been in the business world for many, many, many years and I find Harry's correspondences very unprofessional and poorly written..
He should be happy for us not skeptical or disappointed.
I checked out those satelite images and she is in the vicinity of Corona Park. I don't know of you are aware of it but there is a big 3 day AKC show in Corona Park in Flushing Meadow -October 27-30. Maybe she will be drawn to the familiar scene of a dog show.........you may want to have lots of fliers out for the show/spectators..... just a thought..
Deborah
I thought harry had an other commitment between the 20th and the 1st. What's he doing answering emails? Shouldn't he be concentrating on his other commitment?
is that a real post by oakes or taken from another blog
It is an email that was sent to Gail T.
guy's a bum
Good point Gail CT, good point!
I find that comment offensive ! We are all working HARD to get that girl home. Keeping the faith ...
A friend just checked out the scheduling of the 10/27-30 dog shows. It's going to be held at Cunningham Park not Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It might be a good idea if as many volunteers as possible be there to hand out flyers and keep an eye out for Vivi. The judge who will be judging Whippets is the same judge who gave Vivi her award in February.
If Harry sent that snotty post, this is EXTREMELY unprofessional of him. Guess the articles were right
You know I've been following all this weekly, I have kept this on my favorites and I check it out faithfully. If someone says he has seen Vivi, there is a good chance he has seen something. If she is still there, and I'm sure she is...then any lead is a possiblity and you know just when you are about to give up, sure enough you will find her. Don't ignore any lead ever. I know you won't. Good Luck!
Take care Vivi, there are a lot of people who are looking for you and love you.
My Lord, I don’t know not what I ought to ask of You.
You and You alone know my needs.
You love me more than I am able to love You.
O Father, grant to me, Your servant, all which I cannot ask.
I dare only to stand in Your presence.
My heart is open to You.
You see my needs; things of which I myself am unaware.
Behold and lift me up!
Father, Creator, as we prepare for another night of rest, we ask that you protect and keep our brothers and sisters in creation- the animals. There is one little dog, Vivi, and one little cat named Bowdee whom we would love to see return to their families.
There are many more wonderful animals, and people for whom we are praying protection and healing. We put all in Your hands this night, knowing that You are all powerful and all loving.
We implore this evening Father, that You watch over Vivi,Bowdee Biggie,Sniffles,Holly, African Grey, Faithful (the little girl's seizure dog), Buddy, Rags, Precious, Whippet Annie Little Aussie, Apple Riley, and Montefiore Mama, Daddy, and girl (the “tree puppies’” family)so that not even “one paw slips”and now the new cemetary strays. Show them to the volunteer of Your choice so that they may return to their earthly families. Surprise us by sending Vivi home to a volunteer (BJ, Debbie, Darlene,Diane, Gail, Monica, Debbie?)before we even read Harry's report.
Many of us also have animals which need Your healing touch, Great Physician:Doogie,Prince the Sheltie, CJ, Dante, Zipper, Felice, Max, Little McGee, Murphy, Mylie, Barbaro, Gunner, Linus, Kiva, Ellie,(restore all that had to be taken), Morgan, Little Andi, Nicki, Dude, Tucker, Brandy, Tinkerbell, Lexie, Isabella, Twin Kittens, Bowen, Pie Bird, Heather, and Lady. Enfold all of us in Your healing embrace.
We are frail Father and many of us need Your healing so that we can serve the purpose for which You have created us.
We lift up the following people in need of Your healing: Millicent,Jacque, JL, Lance, Madison, Kathleen's Mom Mary, Gail's mom,Pam, Chris, Abby and Kathleen.
God of Power, stand behind Tammie and Doogie, Duke and Denise, and Otis' followers, as they have stood behind these animals, until justice is done.Thank you so much for helping us find a good home for Kristy!!!
Be with all who mourn tonight. Especially, Foggy and Mystic's families. Greet all, human and animal alike, who will make the journey to Paradise this night. Reward our faithful animal companions who have gone ahead. Let all who are homeless know Your love, and ours, too.
Send your angels and saints to work with Vivi's angels. These NYC volunteers serve as Your compassionate presence on earth. Don't let them become discouraged. Let them know that prayer wise "we've got their back"!
Let our faith grow as a result of this experience! Restore as we sleep, Heavenly Father, as we turn over the night watch to you! YOU ARE IN CHARGE! AMEN!
Candles? http://www.gratefulness.org
The first part of the prayer is a modern translation of St. Philapert.
It might be a waste of time to hand out flyers at the Dog Show. There won't be a person there that doesn't know about Vivi.
Unless you think there will be spectators at the show that might not know about her.
Trust me, if Vivi decided to "go to the show" she would be seen and definitely identified!
Posters and info should DEFINITLY be made availabe at the 10/27-29 dog show, especially now that it is in Cunningham Park - one of the parks Viv has been.
A lot of people do not realize Vivi has not been recoverd and why posters will be revised and printed as "Still Missing".
No opportunity, however small, should be missed in getting out as much info into the community. This is a dog event attended by, one hopes, animal lovers; they have friends, contacts, etc who may help pass the word.
This is one of Vivi's areas, yes it's been posted before but the community must be advised she's still out and not to give up hope.
A Whippet judge who knows her and Whippet people & dogs...what a bit of good luck!!
Additionally, Cunningham Park more accessible by public transportation if volunteers without cars want to help.
I am looking at the AKC premium list right now. It says it is at
Flushing Meadow-Corona Park Cricket Field #17...
Is that the same as Cunningham Park?
I'll be showing there again this year and can hand out fliers....
Maybe instead of flyers, I can print out more business cards? Let me know if you want me to.
Thanks Deborah, I'll check it out. I got my information from an AKC Judge.
Lois, yes, definitely, that would be helpful. Thanks.
Diane,
I just checked with a freind and she said Cricket Field 17 and Cunningham Park ARE the same. I have contact info on the Show Chairperson-if you would like it-drop me a pm.. Perhaps, they can make periodic announcements throughout the show to keep an eye out and make people aware or even have an info table set up. I can visualize Vivi checking the scene out at night when all is quiet and the show is still set up...Fri. and Sat. evenings...... may be worth staking out those nights..
They have overnight parking for RV's ,also, so you will have lots of handlers and dog people about all weekend who could maybe keep an eye out. It may be a hard to resist draw for her....
Deborah,
That's a great idea. maybe if you contact the Show Chair he/she will give you permission to set up a table with info. This is a pretty big show and there should be lots of spectators from the area that you can talk to.That's a really good idea and I hope it works out.
Does anyone know if Vivi enjoyed showing?
Deborah, I sent you an e-mail. This is becoming very confusing. Thanks.
Location, Location:
The attached link gives info about the Queensboro Kennel Dog Show, to be held October 28-30, at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Cricket Field #17, and NOT Cunningham Park.
Efforts to raise awareness about Vivi's plight, at this show, should definitly be made. Will there be lure courses? Perhaps the Viv mght be attracted.
http://queens.about.com/b/a/207773.htm
Here is a link to the show Superintendent with location and directions
http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2006021701.HTM
Vivi enjoyed showing very much but it would be a long shot if she marched onto the show grounds. Don't think that would happen but you sure can inform lots of peo. that she is still missing and to be on the lookout for her.
I have been lurking for a long time only posting a few times. A few months into the search I had mentioned it looked like she was using RR tracks when all the parks she had been sighted in were mentioned. Gail's posting of the maps and such seem to confirm this. in my mind. Great job of detective work coming up with a logical scenario!
If she comes out when dogs are brought in--how about some more local tracking dogs. Surely someone from a local club or such would be willing to help.
It is still logical to think if she has been holed up with puppies somewhere, it is not unusual that she has not been seen for a while when they are very young. Perhaps she needs to get out and find food for them now as they are older. Just a thought. I would not make an accusation or suggestion on blog that caller who reported sighting had just released her. It might discourage other people with actual valid information or sightings from calling
When I was watching the US Open (tennis) I kept getting these images and thoughts of Vivi. Perhaps because she was very near there. I kept seeing also a tall narrow shaped object (think obelisk shaped) --not sure if it was building or tree or fountain, tombstone? Any objects reminiscent of that in vicinity of where she may be holed up?
I don't claim to be psychic but once in a while I get wierd hunches that seem to pan out. It could be nothing too.
I sincerely hope this pans out. The dedication of searchers have for this dog is so amazing.
Thanks Carla. It looks like the Parks Department screwed up on the date on their web site. This is just spitting distance from my house so I'll probably be there at least 2 of the three days.
Deborah, something is wrong. Your link and Carla's link show the show at two different locations. Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Willow Lake) and Cunningham Park are at two completely different locations. Somebody might want to contact the powers that be to get this straightened out. Can't have one show at two different locations miles apart.
Margot,
May I ask how you know Vivi loved to show?
Deborah, Carla - check out the two sites you sent me - they have two different locations at the same time/date. One of them has got to be incorrect. I don't know if you ladies know the area but Cunningham and Flushing Meadows Corona Park (the old World's Fair grounds) are about 3/4 miles apart. Cunningham is in Fresh Meadows and FMCP is in Flushing. Very confusing.
Alane, Margot is correct. Rick told me that Vivi did love to show but once in a while got tired of it so they'd stop showing for a while - she needed a vacation - and then when they went back into the ring she loved it and was in winning form.
The sound of all those dogs in one place may bring her out to see what's going on and since people will be there with their mobile homes there will be dog people there all night.
Correction, Correction:
THe link I posted for the dog show in FLushing Meadows Corona Park is incorrect....that was last year's location. I read so quickly, did not notice date- apologies.
I just got off the phone with Mrs Mary Bloom, who is secretary of the Queensboro Kennel Club and she confirms that this year the show was moved to Cunningham Park @ 196th Street and Union Turnpike.
Additionally, she said that they would be very glad to help in anyway possible and that info, flyers, etc. should be brought to the judge's tent. Mrs. Bloom also said they would be willing to make PA announcements. Someone just has to go to the judges's tent to make arrangments.
Setup begins on Thursday October 26th @ 6:00PM and info can be presenbted at that time too or the next day beginning @ 6:00AM.
Sorry for any confusion.
Diane,
I will check out the different sites. This is what is known as a cluster show i.e they are near one another but not necessarily on the same exact grounds for all 3 showas. Will try to get more info today.
Glad the sites were straightened out. Carla, I could be wrong but I don't think she said JUDGES tent. Judges would have nothing to do with Vivi info. They are only there to judge their breeds. She must have said where the Show Chairman and his/her people are set up. That's where the announcements etc are made over the PA system. Everyone involved in running the show-if they're not working on the grounds congregate there.Great opportunity for the wonderful foot soldiers and for Vivi. I know everyone involved with the show will go out of their way to be helpful.
Notes taken from my phone conversation Mrs. Bloom do indeed say "go to the judges tent...".
Her tel # is 1-718-224-5275 for those wishing further info/clarification.
Just for your info, there are always a lot more spectators at the dog shows on weekends. Saturday and Sunday will be the best days to reach local spectators.
Carla, they are probably together in one tent but the judge's do not ever make announcements. Only those on the Show Committee or someone else with permission from the club can make an announcement.
Thanks Deborah. I just e-mailed the Chairperson myself and asked for clarification of the two locations as well as asked for permission to set up a table and if somebody could make an announcement to be on the lookout for her, etc.
The dog community may, or may not be aware that she's still out there - I would hope they are. However, there will be spectators there and that's really the population we're targeting as well as those that will be in their motor homes over night -her prowling time. If their dog starts barking in the middle of the night don't ignore it, investigate it - it oculd be Vivi - things like that.
Thanks you Carla. I've already e-mailed Mrs. Burgos but it's good to know that they are all on board with us. I'm sure there will be volunteers out there also.
I also remember reading that Vivi liked dog shows. I don't remember who said it, my third eye is malfunctioning..haaaa...She did like shows tho..
If Vivi is near that show, you can bet she'll be peeking! I'll be praying that someone grabs her!
DeniseM:::::I just picked up my daughters Jack Russell, a little girl who on the way back to my house, started flirting with a Pitbull..She squeeked and wagged and the Pit just looked at her with big doe eyes. RUBY:
Sounds a lot like my teenage years! (LOL)
I love that story, Ruby. Love at first sight!
Is there a candle group for Duke? I lit a couple of candles last night and was looking for Duke's group.
Sheila
Never mind, I found it. I guess I don't function well at midnight.
Sheila
Irene,
The little JRT was dubbed a "pup tart" when she was in puppy school..Now she's just a plain old, 10 yrs, flirt..
Sheila: Duke has a candle site under "groups", an easier way to find it is to go to the candle "search" and type in Duke on the bottom square.
ruby
those pits are sooo easy...I call duke Don Juan..he loves to kiss the ladies
I know an an agility dog named Hookie who acts like that. Guess what it's short for.
If there is going to be a large outdoor show near where Vivi has been spotted in the past, then I have a suggestion that you might like. Since the AKC and the Westminster Kennel Club had offered to help as best they could when this search for Vivi first started, maybe they will even pay the expense for my idea. What my idea is, is to have 4 or 6 (possibly more) HUGE heavy duty Full Color Posters made (I'm talking mininum size of 2 ft by 3 ft on corrugated plastic to keep their shape) that have as the center of the poster a picture of Vivi with the info in english that she is still missing (basically having a copy of the poster you are putting up now with the contact phone number etc). Then place the same info in large type circling the center picture info and have it done in 4 or 6 different languages for the areas that Vivi has been in. Those other languages could be Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian, etc. etc. Whatever ethnic communities are in the area. By having these posters placed up high on poles near the entrances for the dog show, any non-english speaking spectators might read the info in their own language remeber it themselves as well as pass it on to others. You can have the wording possibly say something like this in the different languages: "This dog Still Missing - If you see this dog in your area, please have an english speaking friend call the toll free number posted here immediately. Reward offered." I would not put any amount on the reward. Then also have people standing under these signs handing out the business cards with the picture, do not chase instructions and phone number on them. I think Vivi has been spotted by many more people than we realize, but because those individuals may not have spoken/read english, they did not know to call. I'm sure you could get a translation for each language somewhere (maybe even someone from the UN would volunteer to translate it). NYC has more people that speak languages other than English than any other place on earth. Just a thought.
Good thought Lisa.
How about passing it by Jill, Rick, Bo etc. They really know the Dog Show folks, AKC, etc.
These shows aren't really, really big shows.
Lisa,
Sounds good, but too late now for the upcoming show.
Good idea tho!
DeniseM, do I have a girl for Duke..haaaaaaaaaaaa..
lisa
i hope she likes convicts hahhahaha
I meant RUBY LOL sorry bout that ruby..I am a boob
I meant RUBY LOL sorry bout that ruby..I am a boob
How about LOTS of folks handing out flyers/business cards as the cars/RVs, etc., are driving into the parking areas during the entire show....giant signs posted at the entrances? Leave no doubt that the search is still on in the immeaidtae area....
Denise,
The little JRT is a bit of a Bunnie & Clyde type gal..She kills rabbits and eats em'...Not a nice gal, tough and sleazy, she wears a HARLEY COLLAR. She's a real toubh little broad, but she sleeps with a stuffy toy in her mouth and looks like an angel! I'm sure Duke would be quite taken by the little pup tart!
Show people spread the word so people should be sure to talk to them. Have someone hang out in the Whippet area and others pass out flyers around the whole area. One time at a dog show in Pleasanton Ca, we had gals standing at the entrance passing out flyers about a Humane Soc. we had in town. The show has always been advertised as the largest dog show in the West, I've seen Bo there many times! Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore Ca puts it on.. You might even snag a volunteer or two ladies, we did for the Humane Soc....Pass out flyers and spread the Vivi word! Do whatever you can to alert people about the little girl...
Otis petition is at 2,298..Help put his abuser in jail!
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/451360147
Doogie's petition is amazing! Tammy must have a few friends! Doogie has 8,981 signatures!!! Go Tammy go!
Our little buddy Duke has 2,988 signatures. We'll hit 3,000 soon! Don't forget to donate whatever amount you can to help Denise get Duke out of jail and pay attorney and shelter fees.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO KNOWS IF MAYBE SOME ANIMAL GROUP WOULD HELP PAY THE SHELTER/POUND FEES? DUKE WAS WRONGFULLY PUT IN "JAIL" AND YET, DENISE HAS TO PAY FOR ROOM AND BOARD I GUESS YOU'D CALL IT. IS THERE SOME ASSOCIATION/GROUP WHO CAN HELP DENISE?
www.SaveDuke.homestead.com/ LETS GET THE BOY OUT
OF JAIL.
Carol, I'm working on that. We have a whole month to plan.
Ruby, because this is an organized dog show we must get permission from the chairperson to do this. I've already e-mailed her and I'm waiting for a reply. I'm sure there won't be a problem.
Lisa Ga, great idea but this location is part of the NYC Park system and we would probably need permission from the Parks Dept. and possibly a permit from the City to hang such a banner. Unfortunately, I don't believe we have the time.
I don't know how many of u know how the show works. Most exhibitors/owners/handlers will be arriving at the show on Thursday afternoon/evening or really early Friday morning. Most of these folks will be from out of town and are aware of Vivi and her story.
The spectators that I think you will want to make aware of her will be kind of dribbling in on Sat. and Sunday.
I think your best bet is to have a few people handing out cards and maybe a poster here and there.
I honestly know that all exhibitors, owners, handlers at these shows will certainly be aware of the fact that they are in Vivi territory.
Her breeder/owners are well known in the dog world and nobody has forgotten her.
Linda,
I've never been to the show there so I don't know the answer but do you know if people will have t pay for parking like in Mass? If so, maybe the attendents would be willing to give out a Vivi flyer with each ticket given.
Diane, I'm sure the Humane Soc. had to get permission too. Its a good plan tho..That show in Pleasanton has 3,000 or more entries, or did when I lived there. Lots of Whippet people, but I'm thinking they know all about Vivi! Anything new on the little girl?
Good idea Gail Ct..I wish I was in the area, I'd sure be passing out flyers..
Yes Gail, I know they have always had an attendant in the passed that collects money for parking. I am sure they would not mind giving out flyers.
I'm also thinking the vendors at the dog show could be of some help! I'm not sure how, passing out flyers might not work for them, but I go to shows to buy from the vendors..Perhaps a flyer in every bag the vendor puts his merchandise in? Someone help me....I think its a good idea! There are dog food people, t shirt people, beds, leashes and they are all run by different people! Whatcha say guys? SAY AYE ON VENDORS...
We give thanks for the creatures who live alongside us as companions and friends; for their loyalty, love, and trust which enrich our lives and give us joy. May we learn the value of kindness, the power of mercy, the strength of gentleness, and a new spirit of humility. Amen.

Diane, what about inquiring whether the local Boy Scouts might help distribute flyers at the dog show in Cunningham Park on weeekend (10/28-29)? Do you still have info on local troup the last time they hepled out?
RUBY,
I AM SURE THE VENDORS WOULD BE GLAD TO HAVE THE FLYERS AT THEIR SPACE AND GIVE THEM OUT.
Been wondering about the call to Rosa about a Vivi siting at Queens Center Mall...I used to live at Lefrak and go back to visit family on 63rd Rd...is this the Mall on Queens Blvd near the hospital? I don't think it could be a valid call. To get there from Forest Park she would have been seen by somebody long before this time. I'm still praying she's hunkered down with her pups in Forest Park.
Barbara P in MI
Barbara this mall was closer to Yellowstone Blvd that has a Macy's in it. I think there was a bit of confusion at first as to which mall it was.
Thanks Debbie. Just read Gail's description of where this is...sounds so logical that this is Vivi's route. Again, I feel hopeful!...got to go and light more candles!

I think the recent sighting was legitimate despite how close it was to the mighty Oakes departure. As someone else mentioned there is so much randomness to all of this that you cant dismiss anything because of proximity to another event. Think of it in terms of shes bound to be seen by now its been so long .... AND SHE WAS!!! I think things are about to change for the better - HB
HB, I hope your right. We need another sighting.
Maybe the ads should encourage spotters to establish an M.O. that leads to her capture by the team
My feelings/intuition (not psychic) are with hb--I can't necessarily explain why, but I think things are changing for the better. Harry's visit, may have stirred the pot, but no thanks to his effort, or lack thereof.
Barbara, I sent you an e-mail, about a new dog your friends might be interested in.
Folks,
BJ's little chihuaha Maureen is under the weather, let's pray her to health. BJ does not need this to worry about--especially so soon after Yoda's passing. I will start a candle group called MO.
Back in a moment.
There is a group called MO for Bj's dog.
I will praise the Lord who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me.
Because He is at my right hand,
I shall not be shaken.
I am placing my soul and my body, and those of my family and friends--human and animal,
under You guarding this night, Father God, Brother Jesus'
May Your cross this night be shielding me.

Creator God, We put all here, people and animals, under Your care this night. We renew our prayers for Vivi, Bowdee, and all mentioned here, or held in our hearts. Joshua 3:7
As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
Good morning Daddy God. Thank you for watching over us while we rested in your care. Thank you for protecting Vivi and for providing for her. Hold her in your arms and cuddle her with your presence. Please continue to speak into her heart and remove her fear. Bring her to the rescuer you have chosen today. Help us and strengthen us as we work to care for your creatures.
