The blog's nasty attitudes of yesterday sent my head spinnig. Not many here even understand the difficulty in locating a person, let alone an animal, and gave Mr. Oakes little respect and certainly made no effort to understand the obstacles he faced under your pressure to hurry out and find Vivi, or even were gracious enough to give him the benefit of "thinking the best" instead of the worst. Misinformation, half truths and fear has made most of the bloggers here nuts. And Vivi is not helped by it, fund raising is hurt and so too future rescue efforts.

I'm ashamed of the blog after yesterday and reading ridiculous posts accompanied by hostile and ugly comments. And it's great Denise finally stood up to make things better.

The only problem I read here was that those that are 'Vivi Team' and those that donated money wanted to help give research information and make the search area credible and after the fact have access to the report without a hassle. It should have been and could have been that simple for that much money. He and Terri very simply cause suspicion that could have been immediately satisfied with communication before and after the search. Unfortunately in this day-and-age no news from a person doing a job for you is most generally not good news. Thus suspicion ...and unrest. Did the interested parties really ask too much of this situation and in consideration of who paid for the SAR?

And Sue I believe that you are correct as well, for those especially that the Craig’s List posting would have put at risk...most definitely communication and consultation would have resolved or prevented that prior to it having become an issue.

wish we could rewind to Feb. 14th and prevent this whole mess. Yes - I would never have met the people on this blog that I have become to know and consider friends - but I also wouldn't have had to witness all the crap that has been on the blog the past 7 months either. Yes the blog has its good points and when it is good - it is real good - but when the blog gets bad - it is real bad. Hard to believe that some of the people on this blog are adults.

Usually we don't control what others do but we certainly are responsible for our actions, words, etc. - namely, the way we respond to various irritations.

Let's think about something here. If we all agree to get Laura and Sam in or some other tracker close by to go to NY to get the answers we so desperately need then email Lois B to let her know so we can start working on it. If you don't want too believe me noone will think any less of you and we will totally understand. Lois will have to know something so we can figure out how much money is left. We need to know if that was ViVi that someone saw a few days ago. We need a tracking dog to go where Harry didn't go. We trust Laura and she knows the area and she has also been there several times and Sam has always been right on with his scents. So what do you say? Who knows ViVi could be in Brooklyn but we will never know until we get a tracking dog in to tell us she is not in the area people thinks she could be.

Also - Darlene mentioned getting something going too - we need to see what she has planned. We need to continue posting, mailing, faxing, and searching - we can't let this setback slow us down.

Yes we certainly learned some lessons. Sam and Laura don't over-claim and have been completely trustworthy, professional and reasonably priced. I hope we can work something out with them. If not them perhaps they can recommend someone who can confirm/disprove sightings as they happen so we can concentrate our energies and resources where it counts.

Doesn't seem like we are hearing much from the people close to the search. I feel like we are losing direction. Does anyone know what's going on there?

I am all for donating once again to bring Laura in. We need to locate Vivi, I am very worried and do not feel secure that the sighting was real. If it wasn't than she has been out of sight a very long time.

Count me in for another donation. Can we replentish the fund so we can have the money available immediately when she is sighted again?

Seems that you have about $1600 left in the VIVI fund.
My thought is just sit tight, wait for a sighting and then decide where to go from there.
Without a sighting, there is nothing that can be done other than the searchers that are out everyday, the business cards, the flyers and posters.

If Lois is still game to hold that money in a fund, that is fine.
If she feels she has had enough, then I would suggest a neutral person that has no friends on the blog and just has one interest in mind, giving the money to bring her home, or more hopefully, pay for her medical needs when she decides to be found.

I just know that Jill, Rick, Bo and all of Vivi's people are probably doing everything possible to find her and get her home safely.
This blog doesn't hear about it because, you just don't.

There just isn't much that can be done at this point other than all those amazing people that are local and look for her each and everyday.

This will be a decision that everyone will have to make together. It has been almost two months since ViVi's last sighting. We really don't know if the sighting last week was her. That's why I feel we need to get a tracker in to confirm the last sighting and also go to other areas the foot soldiers wanted to go. We simply don't know where ViVi is. Like I said she very well could be in Brooklyn and we're sending flyers to Flushing and Rego Park. We did get a sighting so that's even more reason to bring her in now. Waiting for the next sighting could be another two months or longer. Just my thought.

Just to let everyone know that Gail and I just returned from searching the area around Rego Park and Forest Hills. Unfortunately we did not find anything of interest to report, but just wanted everyone to know that YES!! WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR HER!!

The reason why we went to these places is we wanted to be absolutely sure we checked out every corner that we THOUGHT she might be at. Until we are sure of any one place we are not happy, now we can move to another area.

I don't think trackers would even know where to start at this point. The last sighting was pretty iffy.

My assumption is, nothing can be done other than taking a wait and see approach.

Isn't there someone on here that still talks with Jill or Rick?
I don't know, maybe they don't want anything to do with this blog.

I have heard reports that there will be another advertisting thing in one of the major newspapers. When and which one I am not sure of..

If she is in another area that has not yet been posted, maybe someone will see this ad and call it in when and if they see her.

Believe me, we are at our wits end trying different things, going different places, putting cameras up, taking cameras down, putting them up somewhere else, driving up this street, driving down that street, climbing up that hill, going down that ravine. It is truly frustrating for us too!!

We want so very badly to find her, we really do!!!!

I think the foot soldiers would know where to take the trackers to start and that's where they wanted to take Harry. How much longer can we wait? We need answers now so if she's not there then we can move in another direction.

Yes Marty, that is exactly what we would do. Gail and I spoke about that tonight. We would tell them where to go and if there was no scent we would cross off that area on the map and move on to the next and the next until we only had areas that were never tried. That would be a very big help...

Can't a tracker, if brought in, be taken to the place where she was possibly sighted last week? Wouldn't there be some scent left if she was there?

Do they get paid by the day or by contract? I apologize if some feel these questions are idiotic. I'm just looking for some answers. Do they all get paid by contract like Harry did? I wasn't on the blog when other searches were conducted. So I don't know how they were conducted.

More questions - What would it take to use the remaining funds in the account alot of just donated to and put it towards a tracker this fall whenever the NYC searchers felt it would be best to search? Would everyone who donated have to agree to this use? Who could make the decision?
(This is the last of my questions for tonight. I promise.)

I don't know what Laura or Sam charge but I do know that they have, on numerous occasions, come up on their own and didn't charge us.

You can ask as many questions as you would like.:) I know everyone would have to agree. I will tell you this though. The searchers need trackers there now so they can take the dogs to the last sighting to confirm if that was actually ViVi and also go to other areas. I truly don't feel we can wait any longer. The searchers need to know if they need to stay in that area or figure out which direction to go

Perhaps it would be good for Lois B to take the spreadsheet with the list of donors names and send a joint e-mail to all asking for their votes on whether to use the money for Laura or not. Anyone objecting, possibly just refund their money or hold it for another cause.

I am on board, but will say this, just trying to find a tracker in the NYC area is very difficult. Last week I sent e-mails to the AKC Tracking Clubs in New York. There were not very many and so far only 2 have sent a response. They could not help. We also sent an e-mail to Laura asking if she knew anyone close that could be contacted, she did not. She indicated to be sure that any tracker coming in should be cleared w/Bonnie and Rick. Our feeling was that if she was contacted she might come back especially for some payment of some kind.

Also, if the Vivi Team has not dealt with a person before (such as Laura they do know, but Harry Oakes they did not), why not always treat this as a "business deal" and contact the BBB for info and reports as well as call many references for their advice before hiring someone. We are usually talking about a good bit of money, let's be sure we make the best advantage of it for Vivi and any other animals out there.

The generosity and kindness towards animals of all of these people is an open invitation sometimes to be too trusting without using business sense. Let's be sure in the future that all the info is in and out in the open before proceeding. The money and time are valuable to Vivi.

I wonder if the AKC clubs maybe read what the blog typed about Harry and Valerie? I guess if I were them, I wouldn't take the chance of not finding Vivi or her scent and then being sued!

Laura did not indicate she was aware of how it went down, but did say she had heard that Harry was coming. The e-mail was sent last Friday, so it was already all over the blog about Harry and Valorie.

Sharon - Thank you for these beautiful verses. I can remember singing a hymn in the Baptist church all my life with these words, and thinking how beautiful they were then. I also remember my grandmother sharing this hymn with me when I was young and afraid of the dark. She always assured me I was safe because God was abiding with me through the darkness and night.

Gail was contacting tracking clubs well before Harry was contracted and was not having much luck. Martha also contacted one "we don't do tracking they said" uh, ok? So, no the reason they are hard to find has nothing to do with Harry. You might even recall that Rick was pretty reluctant to deal with Harry at all at first and has always supported using Laura. She is not afraid to come but of course will want him to be on board. Cherita talked to Laura about using trainees/students and she cautioned her about the way they are trained might make them not too helpful for this purpose. Laura has done a good job repeatedly for Vivi. I think she is safe.

As far as the leftover money in the fund goes... I think I mentioned earlier that I am not going to do anything until after the checks clear.

As I mentioned on an earlier post, once these checks clear, I am going to figure out what percentage of the funds are left over and each person will be sent a check for their "portion" of their donation to the Harry Oakes Vivi Fund whether they like it or not. Along with their refund, will be a detailed listing of the donations received and expenses paid out.

I will also be sending a detailed listing of the original fund (the one that I set up back in April) to those that donated up until the time we started collecting for Harry Oakes.

You will find that on these listings for both of these funds and their disbursements, that EVERYTHING is IN ORDER. There will be no "missing funds" and you will all realize that all I have ever wanted to do was to try to help bring Vivi home. I know that there were people that didn't agree with releasing a portion of the funds to Honi's "Vivi fund". I did what I thought I should do at the time. I took it from BOTH sides on that one. I got it from Honi and her group and I got it big time from Irene and her friends. You know what? It didn't matter though. I thought, "I can do this...all that matters is Vivi and getting her home safe and sound".

So, I took another chance and did it again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me (and I'm not talking about Harry and Terri doing the fooling...they both did a fabulous job - all I can say is...many of you can't "see the forest for the trees").

I can not do this anymore. No, let me rephrase that. I WILL not do this anymore. I think that this would be a good time for you all to choose a new fund "manager". I'm sure you will all understand that I would not feel comfortable just transfering the funds - even if you give me written permission to do so. At this point, with all of the talk about suing and calling the BBB, etc. I've decided that I'm just not going to keep my neck out on the chopping block any longer. Too many people are swinging their axes... When you receive your refunds, you may sign them over to your new "manager" or deposit them into your savings account. It will be your choice, not mine.

To those of you that have given me your kind words of support during these past 7 1/2 months, thank you! I will always be praying for Vivi - God Speed Little Whippet!

One thing I can say about Sam and Laura is that they went to areas noone had been before so therefore there would be no need to go back there again.

So have the Vivi bloggers SULLIED THEIR REPUTATION by daring to make comments on a job they considered unsatisfactorily done? According to your post, I can only assume that is what you think.

As Karen said, tracking clubs have been contacted before without much luck. Don't put the blame on the victims (for lack of a better word) for complaining. We're not sheeple on here. You should know that by now. Laura and Karin did not find Vivi either. Are there any complaints about them? No. Please put on your thinking cap and tell me why there are no complaints about them. Then tell me why AKC clubs should be afraid of anything?

Hmmmmm indeed. I don't think Laura is afraid that all the "vicious harpies" on the blog will unfairly accuse her of doing a shoddy job. Why not? Because Laura is respectful, honest, communicates well, and is a team player. For example, she does not post unprofessional profane comments on the blog, nor unprofessional and potentially harmful (to whippets) craigslist postings, nor does she claim to have made a police report yet won't give any details on it.

If you are so defensive because you are afraid you are being blamed for the H.O. fiasco, please settle down! How can anyone blame you? All you did was take care of the finances. You contributed your time and volunteered your services for a good cause. Nobody blames you for how it turned out. Thank you for doing what you did!

If you still want to continue insisting that this is just sour grapes from picky people, please think about this. You have no idea how huge that park is. Valorie the dog needed to be in the right places. People like Gail T., Darlene, Debbie, BJ and others were all over that park and knew the best places for Valorie to sniff. Rosa had been away for 2 months. She didn't have all that knowledge. Leaving all of them out was a grave mistake. I don't know how big city parks are in Minnesota. Maybe they are generally tiny and Valorie could have just stepped out of the car and sniffed anywhere. But parks can be very big in NYC and she needed to be guided to the right places to sniff. The foot soldiers knew where she should have been led to. (For example, Gail T. makes maps on her webpage about Vivi's locations!)

Of course all Valorie got was old scent! It makes me sad that we'll never know how good Valorie is since she never got a chance to do her best.

OK, so I am Lois' sister and I have been reading through this blog and am amazed. WTF is what I have to say. I know for a fact that my sister has spent hours and hours and hours and hours working on trying to help find Vivi (I don't understand it, but I support her). She has donated her personal computer and consumables without being reimbursed (including having me send several faxes from my house). She has spent hours and hours writing emails, sending faxes, printing posters, working through the "books", etc. Lois has a full time job (40+ hours), 2 horses to take care of, her own whippet, fish, a home, etc. Out of the goodness of her heart she helped out and took over the financial aspect of this search. I am glad that you are getting out, Lois. You have a huge heart and giving soul. I say let the people who complain the loudest and the most in their east coast boo hooing take over the funds. Then maybe then they can sit home and yell at themselves. Maybe insane isn't a good description for the "I hate Harry" people - maybe rude, selfish, cruel, insecure, unappreciative, self-centered, judgemental, self-serving, uncouth, whiney, unrealistic, unkind, not so intelligent or sane, self promoting and/or inconsiderate would work.

By the way, Lois was in the hospital and ER the other day and had to come back to ... this? Vivi is in my prayers, the rest of you are on your own. Thanks Lois for all your hard work. Vivi needs us to find a way to work together. She has no idea that we are here and doesn't care what we think about each other.

Ok everyone let's stop fighting this is not helping us and yes we have all vented, what's done is done and we cannot turn back the clocks so lets move forward and no more name calling. We are getting more frustrated here than ever before and cannot get on with finding this dog. This is a vivi blog remember we have all gotten off track and had our say to harry let's forget him. We will never get the answers we want from him nor do I think he ever intended to tell us. He was not the professional we expected. Time for someone else to come in and I have to say laura and Sam are really sweet girls and go all over with their dogs even in the rain, it would be a blessing to have them back, they sat down with us with maps tracking her route and talked to us and we watched them work.

On a sadder note Gail in CT's mom has passed away today so please say a prayer for her

I agree with Karen and Debbie. Let's move on and continue to get the word out until we can figure out how to get a tracker to NY.

I am so very sorry to hear that Gail has lost her mom. I know her mother went with her on so many Vivi searches...it is so very difficult to lose a parent.

TY for writing. Your sister Lois has done a phenomenal job dealing with the accounts. She is greatly appreciated and has been held in very high esteem.

I don't understand why she thinks that she is being blamed for the failure of the Harry Oakes trip.

She is not to blame just because she donated her time and effort to take care of the accounts! Since you say you have read the blog, you know this too. Complaints were made about Harry's performance on the search and there were also some spats with Terri. Nobody associated Lois with any of that. Please ask her to calm down already. She is not lumped in with the other two. If anything, she is lumping herself in with them, as she is putting herself in their corner every chance she gets. I don't know anything about Terri except she was the go between with Harry Oakes so I have nothing to say. Harry's actions are unprofessional at best. Everyone knows the difference between him and Lois. Nobody blames her for what happened. She should not get so upset about it.

Gail, I am so sorry about your Mom passing. My Mom passed a year ago Oct.21.....she had a great life, she was 90. I still miss her everyday.

Yes Irene her mom was a show judge and i have met her and she is very much still here, I think we all lost it for a bit here, I think people get joy out of seeing us fight and name call and we fall right into their game but we all bounce back and get back into what we are all here for, Vivi.

Gail my friend remember what I told you, we are here for you and call anytime.

Does anyone know if there is another blog or meeting place just in case Denise shuts down the board for any reason? If so, can someone e-mail it to me. It would be terrible for Vivi if everyone couldn't make contact with each other.

Irene, I remember that day...yes, you were very kind to me. I'm sorry Irene...I had no right to drag your name into that post. My memory is obviously clouded - these past few days have been much too much for me - but, no excuses right?

It is for this reason (my inability to think clearly) that I have got to cut loose. It's more for Vivi than anything else. I am not as functional anymore and I don't have the self-confidence I had in the beginning of this endeavor.

I'm not giving up on Vivi. I just can't be part of "this" anymore. I already promised to print more business cards and they will hopefully be in the mail by the end of this week. If you can vote on a new "fund" manager and that person is willing to sign some sort of document accepting the receipt of the remaining funds...I'll forward them a cashier's check (of course, after the checks clear and we know exactly what is left).

I'm sorry guys. I have nothing left to offer Vivi (other than print business cards)or this blog. I'm tired and sick and I just can't do it any more. I know you are all frustrated with what has happened over the past couple weeks. Me too.

If there is need for more fliers, let me know. I can do either B/W or Color.
Just tell me where to send them and I'll do it.

You've always been there for ViVi and I know you always will be. Take a break and rest your body and mind and we will be here with open arms when your feeling better and ready to come back. We still love you Lois and just because words were exchanged will never change that. I want to personally thank you for everything you have done for ViVi.

Everyone let's let the past be the past and move forward. It still about ViVi and she's still not home so let's please try starting today to get focused back on our girl who is probably out freezing her butt off because it's getting cooler there. If anyone would like to help me send flyers email me. I want to thank my helpers and they are Marnie, Ruby Shoes, Kim, Cherita, Susan, Maggie and Cherita. I hope I didn't forget anyone. If I did I will be back on and add them to the list.

Let's get past Harry. Yes we were all disappointed but it's over. So starting today let's not bring up Harry's name anymore because all it does is start a fire. We need to find someone that will handled the funds and get a tracker in there to help our foot soldiers and give them the answers they need to move on. They are tired and we owe it to them to help them in anyway we can.

If what Lois told me last week is accurate, there would still be about $2,000 in the fund. This could go a long way to getting Laura back out there for a weekend. Maybe Lois could send the money directly to Laura, and we could have the local searchers (instead of someone in Arizona) coordinate the visit with Laura. We could have Laura take direction from the local searchers and search the way they have proposed. What does everyone think about that?

And PLEASE start putting together some large neon posters. They need them as soon as possible! That's one thing we can all do.
