Search coordinator Bonnie Folz sends this update:
<<Vivi Update 7/31/06
Sorry for not getting out an update last week.
Unfortunately there's have not been any confirmed sightings since my last update.
We did receive a call last week of Vivi being spotted foraging through the grass at the service road of the Van Wyck Expressway just before the Long Island Expressway on ramp. The caller said he though by the size and color it could have been Vivi but could not confirm her markings as he was driving by too fast.
Volunteers were on the scene within minutes but, as with all our sightings, when volunteers appear on the scene Vivi has already moved on. This service road does run along the back of yet another cemetery, Mt Hebron Cemetery. Another of Vivi's M.O.'s.
We did post flyers up and put inserts/ door hangers out to the houses in the surrounding area. This new sighting is just opposite Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
We also got a call from a woman claiming she's been seeing a man walking a whippet around Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village. I drove around the park numerous times during the hours this woman had seen the pair but was unsuccessful in locating them.
The following night, another call to the Vivi number came from a worker at the Starbucks Coffee shop at the Stop & Shop shopping center where Vivi's has been spotted in before. The caller just served a man who was walking a whippet and she thinks it is Vivi!
Fortunately I was driving home after canvassing Juniper Valley Park and the area surrounding Woodhaven Blvd and Metropolitan Ave when I got the call of this sighting. I have to tell you, when I pulled up to the traffic light and looked over at Starbucks, the man was sitting outside drinking his cup-a-joe and the dog laying next to him was surely a whippet. AND from where
I was, looked as though had the brindle marking of Vivi!
As I pulled into the parking lot I noticed that this whippet was white, light beige and brindle. Add that to the fact that it was a male. I approached the man with my Vivi cards in hand, told him about the call I just received and he knowingly nodded his head.
He told me he's been getting many strange looks since the fliers have been put up about Vivi in the area. One crazy person walked up to him and told him he wanted to take the dog from him and turn it in for the reward! I apologized for the inconvenience and suggested laughingly that he wear a shirt that says "This Is Not Vivi!"
He also told me of another whippet that lives in the area (we already know about her), and said he's usually out walking his dog in Juniper Valley Park a this time! I thanked him profusely for letting me know as THIS was the guy and dog I had just drove around looking for! At least we
wouldn't have to spend any more time canvassing that park.
A sighting on Saturday morning placed Vivi at the beach of Charles Park in Howard Beach, practically in my own backyard! The man was very sincere and truly thought he had seen Vivi while fishing along the shore at 5 a.m.
He said he tried to approach her and she gave him a bark (not a characteristic of Vivi's from what I understand) he took about 15 minutes trying to get close to the dog, scooching closer while sitting on the sand; however, the dog got up and trotted into the park, where he lost sight of her.
Not having the phone number but knowing about Vivi since he works in the airport, he went to the Port Authority police at JFK. They didn't have the number and apparently were not too helpful. He then called the vetport and got the Vivi number as soon as it opened at 8 a.m.
I immediately called some friends in the neighborhood as well as Bobbi from Bobbi and The Strays to let her know to keep her ears open she contacted her local volunteers and the park had fliers up within the next couple of hours. We received information that the dog this man
called about was in fact a pointer. There was also a Jack Russell terrier running loose. Both were known to Bobbi's local rescue volunteers and they've been trying to trap them.
Many volunteers have been out in this New York heat posting fliers and we are glad to have added two new volunteer foot soldiers to the team. So many far-away volunteers continue to mail, fax and email flyers to the different businesses in the areas. Police and Sanitation dpartments have been alerted again.
I believe with this heat, we will not have many sightings as Vivi is a smart li'l girl and is probably keeping cool somewhere.
With not many sightings coming in, trying to decide where to post next becomes a challenge. There are neighborhoods in Queens not yet hit with posters and if possible those are the neighborhoods we'll concentrate on next. Though there haven't been sightings there, ya never know where Vivi may turn up next.
Happy to report the puppies rescued from Montefiore Cemetery, have all been adopted from Bide-A-Wee! YAY!
We're still working on having New York City's Animal Care and Control trap the pack of dogs Vivi may be hanging with as well as the mommy dog and her friends from Montefiore Cemetery.
For everyone that has sent encouraging emails, thank you.
Trying to keep cool and always, keeping the faith!

Having been involved in the search for many missing dogs, including my own whippet years ago, I have learned much about their ways when lost. It is my feeling that Vivi (injured or not) is like most dogs in this type of weather. They want to stay cool, so will look for places which are more likely to retain that coolness even during the worst part of the heat of the day. One spot which many will look for are storm drains (large ones with escape holes/openings at both ends). They will usually go into the openings anywhere from 8 - 15 ft inside. The concrete is cool and helps to keep them cool too. But they also have the advantage of watching and listening for people and can dart out of either end of the storm drain if they feel threathened. Other areas would be deserted buildings, dark alleys where the sun doesn't get to, dense large shrubs/hedges where they can hide within the brush without being seen, crevises/shallow caves within rocky hillsides, under bridges/walkways and many many more places most of us would never think of. One thing I do know about a lost dog is that during excessive heat, they will stay near a water source. Ponds and lakes especially. Or even near water fountains (which some cemetaries/parks have on during the summer). If Vivi is hanging out in the cemetaries and parks, she is probably hiding out close to that water source during the day to drink when needed and only going out scavenging after dark, esp if she has an injured leg. I know the efforts of all the volunteers to find her and catch her may seem futile at times, but it isn't. I know the exhaustion, frustration, even anger that those volunteers feel. I know the heartache, the overpowering feeling of blaming oneself the owners are most likely feeling and the feeling of helplessness and loneliness of not being able to find your baby. I have been there and I feel all of it again for a dog I have never met. Unless you have been through it yourself, no one should judge Jil, Bo or Paul on how all this is being handled. There is no right way to solve this problem. Each dog is different. It is all up to Vivi to decide when she has had enough and wants to go home. I will say that should she come into season soon, that is the time that enticing her with a male dog will be the easiest way to get her closer if she is spotted. I don't know when she was due in season again, but having some volunteers walk the parks/cemetaries with a male dog might draw her out if she is. I have seen a male used as a tease by putting the male on a long 20-25 ft lead. The person holding the dog sits down, remains still and as the male teases the girl dog closer, the person very slowly pulls the male back towards themselves, all along keeping a spare leash with a large loop nylon choke collar in hand ready to place over the head of the bitch at the right moment. It is a slow process, but can work if you take the patience to allow nature to take its course. And if she becomes pregnant from a stray, as bad as it sounds, this may also be when the chances of catching her as the best. The greyhound "phantom", that roamed the Cincinnati area for over a year and could not be caught, finally was after getting pregnant because she found a nesting place to have her babies and stayed in that area. If she is not due in now, then with this heatwave, have some people walk the areas where there are water sources, handing out flyers or cards to people they see and have some other volunteers post flyers on the poles at cross streets. Posting is great and should be done, but do it in a pattern. Have each cross street pole tagged with a poster, but do it from an area working a minimum of two miles away from her last sighting and working back in to where she was. Don't start from where the sighting was going outward. Vivi can travel many miles in a short period of time, so getting ahead of her is imperative to finding her. Dogs tend to travel in a pattern after awhile. If you study a map of her sightings in the order in which they come in, you can sometimes see the pattern emerge and you can guess as to an area where she may be seen again. Its not foolproof, but does sometimes work. One last thing. I know that darting Vivi was not an option due to the worry of drug interactions that could harm or kill her, but if you get an expert that does this with wildlife all the time, their knowledge of the drug interactions might give you a last ditch effort in getting her before winter sets in. These people usually have tracking ability as well and know just how to do it safely. It might be worth having Bo or Jil talk to someone about it. I hope and pray it doesn't come to using that method, but I think I would risk it before seeing if Vivi can survive the coming winter. Time is passing quickly and it will be winter in NY soon enough. Lets all pray for that miracle to come soon and Vivi decides enough is enough.
Hi,
Bless you Bonnie, and all of you volunteers. It makes me proud to be a dog lover to see all of your hard work. Lisa sounds like she has some very good suggestions. BLESS YOU ALL for what you are doing. I cannot be there to help, but I have not and will not stop praying untill sweet Miss Vivi is home safe and sound.God bless you all.
Blessings,
Dorothy
Lisa thanks for the info, everything you have said we basically have done, we have just about everytown in Queesn posted so no matter which way she goes someone will have to spot her, all major intersections are posted as well as side blocks, we have left food in most of the cemetaries with water to keep her there, she just goes, we had her pattern figurd out with when she hunts for food usually it was 11-12 pm or early in the morning, she has now started to come out middle of the day,we know she has made a huge circle and so far is in an area we think, parks and cemetaries are huge, she was due mid june to go to heat, if she is preganant it should be aug she delivers, if her cycle has not been altered from being dscared out there, she has not been known to stsay near dogs althought some say recently she has been with a pack, we are trying, but with the heat index well over 110 it is brutal out there. if there is anything you can think of feel free to post it, we are listening to any suggestions, we will keep in mind the storm drains if we could find them, parks are very large and cemetaries go for miles and intertwine with others and close before we get out of work.
Lisa's information was very informative. Debbie, you and the other foot soldiers, please be real careful in this heat. It is brutal in CT now. Make sure you have plenty to drink and don't overdo. Hope other shelters will volunteer to help you guys out.
The heat here in Western Ma. is brutal too, the humidity at 68% doesn't help either.
I have some ideas that have been rolling around in my head:
Has anyone posted the homeless shelters in the area. Homeless people tend to raom around during the day and night and see a lot of stray dogs. Maybe some of them could be solicited for help (have to ask the shelter managers. This idea may have been brought up before..many homeless people are animal lovers.
Another good place to post are the bars/night clubs in the areas, people congregate there also and many are there into the evening/night. You never know what they might see on their way home (unless they had one too many then start seeing double Vivi's)
I'll keep thinking, please everyone searching, try to stay cool, there is no air to breath out there.
Just a reminder for anyone new, I am sending out my Psychic Vivi visions via e-mail to anyone that asks. Just click on my name and send me a request. There is no fee and I do not promote anything else. I just send out my Vivi visions - usually two or three a day. I do not send out on weekends or evenings.
Best, and many many kudos to the great New York women out pounding the pavement for our little gal.
I like the walking a male dog on a leash to attract Vivi, after the hot spell in NY! Of course you have to know where the little twit is!
Debbie:
California must have sent it's heat to you poor guys in New York and I'm sorry! Keep cool, I have sent darlene a special surprise package that she MIGHT share with you.lol
Bless you volunteers, don't over do and get sick!
Wow, it's been so long since I have visited this blog. I know what you guys are going through in New York. Finally, we broke the 90 - 100+ degree weather today. It was 78 and actually felt "chilly". How's that for scary. Just remember, it will cool down...keep the faith my friends. Thank you for never giving up on sweet Vivi. You guys are all the best. Let me know if I can do anything to help. I'm "here" for you.
Lisa in Georgia you are so correct. I hope more people will read your info.
Hi, everybody. It's been some time since I've visited the blog. Hope everybody is surviving the heat.
First, to that nice lady that I see on Community Drive every morning - if you'd like to help posting flyers, handing out flyers at local shopping areas, or helping in any way please e-mail me. All you have to do is click on my name below that that will direct you to my e-mail address.
Next, Lisa in Georgia. You have posted many excellent suggestions but as Debbie posted, our volunteers have plastered most of Queens and they are trying to keep one step ahead of her. I would like to address your suggestion of a dart gun - I'm going to try to be as nice as I can because when I hear dart gun and Whippet used in the same sentence I get angry. Whippets and Greyhounds are all muscle, no fat. The anesthetic that is used in a dart is determined by the animal's weight (we have no clue what Vivi weighs now) and is eventually absorbed by the body fat (Vivi, as a Whippet, has no body fat). So, using any type of a dart, no matter how professional or expert the person is, would KILL her. Animals that are darted usually run for a while until they drop. If Vivi starts running we've lost her - she can run faster than any of us can and if she's in park area - say good night Gracie - that it - game over. For any other dog this might work but not for a Whippet or Greyhound. So please nobody mention darting her again.
Yes Diane, you are also correct about not using a dart gun or other anesthesia for a whippet. ( I did not want to even think about that as it would spell disaster) I think the volunteers are all on the same track and are doing a fantastic job. My heart and prayers go out to all of you who have given so much to help Vivi.

Call from Office Depot--
In May I ordered some page protectors from Office Depot and had them delivered to Diane Tamm. I received a call today from Office Depot. They were trying to get my "business" to order more supplies from them. First I had to explain that the library where I work has a central purchasing office and does this type of purchasing through a yearly contract. After a couple more questions I had to explain that I was actually purchasing the materials as an individual rather than a business. As the conversation progressed I explained to the woman that I purchased the supplies online and had them delivered to someone in NYC that I've never met because there is a great group of people all over the country working together to try to find this missing dog in New York City. I think this must have been the most unique story this woman has heard in a while. She thought it was terrific and wished us luck in finding Vivi.
She is sending me a discount coupon--Diane do you need more page protectors or tape or anything I could have delivered to you from Office Depot?
It was good to hear from you, Lois. I'm glad cool weather is on the way. We're roasting here in Philadelphia.
Keep the faith everyone--we'll have our day to celebrate! I know we will.

Diane,
Along with you and all sighthound owners, that includes me, saying NO DART GUNS, I would also like to point out how HAL, the coyote died after being darted and kept so he could be checked and given shots and then died of stress probably related to HEART WORMS..There could be a chance Vivi has heart worm, she's been atleast 4 to 5 months without heart worm meds.
Uh, am I making sense? lol. What I mean is, Sighthounds are all that you say regarding drugs ..duh...why don't I go take a nap..lmaoooo
I tried, I hope you understand my blahh blahhhing.
No darts is the keyword. lol
I sure do remember poor Hal. He died from the stress of not understanding capture. I know the official version included heartworms, but I always questioned that statement. The Department of Wildlife certainly wouldn't want to take full responsibility for his untimely death by caging an animal that thought cages equated to a death sentence. Poor Hal couldn't take the cage.
PLEASE NO DART GUNS.Vivi is a poor stressed out little Whippet who may even be pregnant. IMO a dart gun is NOT a viable option for Vivi.
Just bringing up the issue of using a dart gun causes a frenzy because we know this would be very detramental to vivi's life, i.e.: her loss of weight right now, stress level, maybe being pregnant. The cons far outweigh the pros even at her best. This shouldn't even be considered as a last resort for her. We just have to pray that she goes to someone real soon. Viva La Vivi!
Laura
I couldn't have said it any better Ruby.
Would you believe when you say "chase her" I get the same feeling as you all get with the word "dart" I see fast moving traffic and a frightened dog. One more thing WOW, do you see how many Dianes are over here? Did we clone her?
guys: relax - dart guns have not even been considered. and that comes from someone who knows, ok?? she will not be endangered - if it were that easy, we wouldn't still be running. she's in good and SAFE HANDS. nothing is out of control here. and there's a breeze out so it's getting better... maybe a passing t-storm but she is already hanging out inside or under something nice and cool. also, it smelled gooood by the park today according to my hubby so our angel is going to use that long nose and have one hell of a feast :)
If you ever have a dog with a bad infestation of heart worms, you'll learn that when the treatment starts, the dog has to be quiet for 3 to 4 months. No running to play, it has to be inside. A JRT across from me had them and the poor guy was on almost bed rest for all those months. If the animal runs and gets excited, the worms travel to the heart and the dog dies is how my vet explained it to me. The people hadn't given their dog heart worm meds in almost a year! I never miss with my guys.
Hals stress was from not understanding capture and the heart worm factor, he had a heavy infestation of the worms.
Amen darlene! You are such a joy..heh heh heh..I wish I were there helping you and your bud, whatshername..heh
I have faith in you and the other volunteers. A big old hug to you woman! I loves ya lots! heh
RUBY: YOU MEAN STICKY PANTS?????? HEE......
love you too babydoll :)
lol Darlene, yeh Sticky Pants, she's da one.
All of you Vivi bloggers are so helpful and I wonder can you help me find something? I am looking for a poster that shows a graph or tree of what happens when one dog or cat is not neutered or spayed. I've seen it at a vet's office before and it shows like over 2,000 unwanted pets that are produced in one year just due to one unspayed female cat, for example. If anyone knows of a link where I can find this poster it would be so helpful.
Tonight I have one feral cat in a cage in my laundry room. I had hoped to capture four of them but at least I got this one. This is the result of months of research by me to find a low cost neuter clinic in the cincinnati area, plus financial assistance to take care of this feral colony in my neighborhood. I've gotten vouchers to spay, and it should only cost me $10 per cat. My friends and family think I am nuts so I want to send them that poster to illustrate why I'm doing this. Wish me luck trapping the rest! Thanks for your help! Still praying for Vivi here in Cinci. Amy
Hi Amy -
I found a link that has the info you're talking about. It's not a poster, but the info is there.
http://animalcare.richlandonline.com/Info.asp
Good luck with the colony! What you are doing is wonderful.
Lois T
Amy, my daughter has done the same thing. She trapped either 13 or 14 feral cats, had them all spayed or neutered, lukemia tests and aids tested and then found homes for them, also had them wormed. The SPCA near her paid the spaying etc bill. I still have a male who we call MR. Peabody.
My kid found good homes for all of them, indoor homes.
Lois - thank you so much for that site, it has EXACTLY what I was looking for, and it is very easy for me to reproduce in an e-mail. I really appreciate it and it will help to illustrate to my family and friends why I'm doing all of this.
Today went well - I spayed one, caught one more and only have two more to go. I'm very lucky that I only have four cats to worry about. I'm finding it is a very difficult thing to do - emotionally. The females are all pregnant which makes it very complicated. Also I know I have to release them but it makes me sad to do so, if that makes any sense. They are just too wild to become pets and adopt out, even though that is what I would most like to do. The cats pretty much hate me right now, so they sure won't miss me! Thanks for the good wishes and the help! Amy

FYI MCGEE
Folks, McGee's test results came back today. He is enzyme deficient in several areas, and my vet is still working on dosage amounts for supplemental enzymes, and a vitamin B deficiency. He will start taking this soon, and will also begin medication for the beginning of a mild form of pancreatitis. These are all things which should help him considerably. In the meantime he is on a daily dosage of pred which has brought back his appetite.
He is eating pretty well, keeping it down, and all signs of diarhea are gone. My mom came to stay with us during the heat wave (she has no AC), and as she loves McGee has been giving him big doses of TLC. He seems so pleased to see her-- and its been a better week for him as a result. Keep him in your prayers and thanks for the candles.
I just stopped by to check in on everyone. I'm praying that the heat-streak breaks in NYC...
Proverbs 3:13-23
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom and the man that gets understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things that you can desire are not to be compared to her. Length of days are in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her and happy is every one that retaineth her. The Lord by wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding has he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths are broken up and the clouds drop down the dew.My son, let not them depart from thine eyes, Keep sound wisdom and discretion; so they be life unto thy soul and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely and thy foot shall not stumble.
Daddy God, we come to you this morning and we thank you for all the wisdom that is pouring forth for the safe rescue of Vivi. We ask you Daddy God to pour forth your wisdom in us and show us the way to go. You see all and you know all. We ask you Daddy to give your knowledge and wisdom to the rescuers, just as you filled Solomon with your wisdom, so fill them. We need your help Daddy. You know exactly where Vivi is and your ever watchful eye is upon her. Lead these rescuers to her Daddy and fill Vivi with your wisdom and cause her to remember home. Cause her to long for rescue and allow herself to go to someone for deliverance. Daddy God, we place all things in your hands for you are all knowing. Daddy, lead the rescuers by your Spirit right into the path of little Vivi and bring her home. We are depending upon you and you alone. Please refresh and strengthen the rescuers Daddy. They are few in number, but they are mighty in spirit and are conquerers. Increase them Daddy God. Release them from this terrible heat and protect them. Shelter them under your wings and fill them with your presence. Continue to protect, nourish, and lead all these have brought to your throne. Vivi, Biggie, Sniffles, Rags, Faithful, Little Aussie, Mommy, Daddy and babv girl pup, Apple Riley, Holly, Precious Hosanna, Buddy, Annie, African Grey, Pointer and Jack Russel. Continue your healing touch in CJ, Dante, Trotter, Felice, Max, McGee, Murphy, Barbaro, Mylie, Gunner, Kiva, Linus, Ellie and Morgan. Continue your precious healing touch in Madison, Baby Girl,JL, Lance, Pam, Chris, Abby, Pat, Jaque, Mary Ann and Kathleen. Comfort Kathleen's heart and increase her faith and strengthen her. Give us wonderful news from the doctor today concerning Mary Ann. Let all tests be benign Daddy in Jesus's Holy Name. Protect beloved Israel and America as they fight against terrorism. Protect and shelter the innocent. Bless the soldiers as they give their all to conquer evil. Let your blessings and miracles flow today Daddy God. Comfort all who are mourning and gently wipe their tears away and heal their wounds with your tender love. We love you Daddy God and we seek your beautiful face. Fill our lives with your glory and deliverance. Let this be the day Daddy God...Let this be the day indeed...In Jesus's Holy Name we pray...Amen

Hi Everyone have we moved to this thread now?
I have been gone for the past couple of days so it took a while to read all the posts - my concern is this: Before we were told "Vivi is not our dog and therefore, we can only do what the owners want us to do". Does anyone know what the owners are doing or even thinking at this point? Have they given up on Vivi or are they actually doing things we haven't heard about in trying to capture her? I have not heard mention of Jill, Rick or Paul for a long while. It seems that this search, rescue and capture of our beloved whippet is a one sided venture - that being the tireless volunteers and out of state bloggers that are doing all the work.
Someone fill me in if I am mistaken, but I think Vivi needs to be caught now. However, I have a feeling we may not have any say so in trying anything other than posting and searching unless we have the blessings of the owners.
Has that guy who is with the 5 borough animal control centers been brought in? I remember reading that he wanted to help. How about the animal precinct police? Would they take the challenge and I think Vivi is a challenge of luring her in.
Just a note, if anyone wishes, old blogger or new, to receive my Vivi Psychic Visions, just click on Sedona below and send me an e-mail request and I will be happy to include your name in the group.
There's no catch, fee, or anything promoted. I send out my visions as I receive them to anyone who wishes.
Best, to all.
Linda
Everyone, please pray for the dogs in China - pary that God will ease their suffering and gather them close. Send them comfort in their time of hardship.
susan - not that i know of... no one has been brought in other than the dogs.
KATHY IN COLORADO: I think a while back when there were issues being thrown around about "This is not your dog". I rememeber someone posting that after 3 month Vivi is considered a stray, so the question is is their legal ownership of Vivi at this point after being a stray for 6 months, and is there a law against trying to save a stray? I highly doubt it, then again I don't know, but at this point, seems to me the people who own her, would take any opportunity, in trying to get her back. The people there in New York who have been running this search and posting for the last 6 months, Have been so dedicted, you would think they own Vivi. What did happen to Bo, Paul, it seems like so many people have given up on her, or maybe it's just me, I don't think anything has gone on behind the scenes, I am sure we would have hear about it, I guess they just want to be updated on places that have been posted? Don't know what to think anymore! Rosa
Rosa - that is what I am feeling also - that they have given up on finding her - so in my mind, I agree, she belongs to the people that are out there pounding the pavement looking for her. Wonder if when Vivi is caught, if she would even recognize Jill and Rick? I would imagine they would still want her, but - who knows?????
Kathy at this point I think she is legally anyones dog, if she is found. We need to find this out, I don't think there is anyway they can legally stop anyone who is trying to save a stray, So why would need their permission on hireing dog trackers? Bonnies would go ahead would be fine, and if they don't like what is being done to find their dog, then they should take more time to come here themselfes instead of didtate impossible things from where ever they are!
Sorry for all the misspellings, typing too fast.
I don't care who gets mad at me, people this dog needed desperate help like 2 or 3 months ago! time is running out if it hasn't already, just being realistic here, we need to stop painiting pretty pictures, and really think about this, she has not been sighted since she was seen limping, there should have been desperate measures take a long time ago, so fustrateing! I am not blameing any of the New york people, but why hasnt' Vivi's breeder, handler, groomer, owner what ever the hell posse she had, dropped off the face of New YOrk. Scream at me all you want, but I can't be the only one thinking what the hell happend here!! besides abondenment!!!
at least that is what it feels like!
Hey gang, Keep your chins up, she is probably
laying low with the heat. I wish we could get
ahold of some of that money, and hire a pro.
The time has come, it is obvious we will not
catch her posting flyers all the time.
easy rosa, ok????
got my mail, darling???
Darlene thank your for making my day with that last e-mail! Rosa
Can we get more help using the money we have to help our foot soldiers. We all wish we could be out there with them to help. They are going above and beyond. But, that's New Yorkers for you. I agree, Rosa, more has to be done and you're not the only one wondering.
Thank you Susan, sometimes I feel like I am the only one thinking these things, and I just couldn't hold back anymore! Rosa
I know tracking dogs can't find her, but perhaps they can pick up a fresh scent -
IMPORTANT:
Been working for hours tracking a "Pure bred show dog quality female Brindle whippet 2yrs. old free to good home" from LI. make a long story short spoke to Brigette Greenberg from WRAP(very snippy) said it was not Vivi. Woman giving it away cause she is pregnant. Darlene, the husband of the woman giving away the Whippet is a Firefighter who was an xtra on dennis Learys firefighter show. His name is Anthony. After I hung up with WRAP I thought maybe it's Happy.I just want to make sure it's not Vivi-although it's probably not.Owner posted it on she knows.com at the end of July.Does your husband know Anthony????
Rosa , I hear you too. It's been a long haul for Vivi and the searchers... This needs to end and by that I mean taking ANY steps to get this dog found. Hiring people , pet detectives, whatever is needed, and the $ is there for that purpose. I hate to be so itchy about it because I know I'm not there on my feet looking for her which I would love to do .. but because I knew it wasn't possible I doanted $ , not complaining here but whats the delay of game? It's all blurry and makes no sense to me... somethings gotta give...
wouldn't it be great if the Whippet the gal wants to give away was Vivi? I hope it can be checked. Darlene and Deb will do something I'm sure.
Now to the money in the Vivi Fund. I seem to remember money being used sometime ago for the helicopter and Rick. Is there still $12,000 in the fund or is it less? Just wondering.
AMEN CHRISSY!
Margot, keep us posted, wouldn't this be a twist of fate, if it were Vivi. rosa
I thought Happy was a male, for some reason. Rosa
I've been checking for hrs.and this snippy Rescue lady didn't even ask about Vivi. I told her I was part of vivi's team and check ads for lost Whippets.I found the link to this Whippetfree to good home by following up on A whippet World link.Since this preggie lady's husband is a firefighter in LI thought darlene's husband might know him.
Hey Rosa,
This is like old times. Remember the song "You and me against the World?"Except now I think we have many more allies. I still feel Karin is our best shot. Like someone said, at least we'll know if Vivi is around.Didn't remember Happy was a male. How far from LI is Queens?
Margot, Your so right! "You and me against the world" really feels that way lateley. Like Irene mentioned on blog the other night, we need to just put our heads together and figure out any new ideas. I think all of us are open to listeneing to anything at this point, we need to think outside the box. The more ideas the better! I agree we need to just find out if there are any scents they can pick up on from the most recent sightings, having the tracking dogs come is better then anything that is being done now, besides the posting and our dedicated crew that is already out there, doing their best. KUDOS to you girls, if it wasnt for you this story would be dead! Rosa
not to change the subject, but has anyone heard from Renee about Skully?
Ruby:
Doubt there is still $12,000 in the fund cause lots of things have been paid by using that money I believe. I am hoping that at least half is left. I have no way of finding out, but hope whoever is close to the people-in-charge will let us know.
Would be a whole lot easier to get some ideas together if we knew how much money we have left to play with, I agree.
Margot - since it is already 5:00 in NYC, have you thought of calling the 800 number for Vivi so someone could check out this whippet before Monday. Just a thought, I don't have anyone's cell phone, but you also might try e-mailing the info to Lois T or Kathy of Bayside.
Keeping the faith for Vivi in TX
Kathy(CO)
Unfortunately, Renee's kitty, Skully, lost his fight for life and went to the Rainbow Bridge last Sunday, I believe.
So many very sick pets at young ages...Skully was only 7 years old, young for a kitty.
oh no - I hadn't heard..........I am so sorry - how is Renee doing? That is just one of life's hardest things to go thru.....I am so very very sorry.
Can ask ask why everyone wants Karin to come in as the tracking person? There are other qualified trackers out there. Just wondering why people find her special.
Please fill me in on the whippet you are all speaking about?
Gail(CT)
I did not meet Karen Goin personally while she was here for a day and a half. I have gotten very good feedback from the people who spent the time with her and her two great dogs, Boone and Cade. Several people do seem to feel that out of the dog trackers we have had here, she is special, and most especially her dogs are totally amazing I have been told.
I will support any decision that is made to help locate Vivi - financially or otherwise. I'm just praying she shows herself soon.
Best,
Linda
kathy (from Bayside) been looking for your Email. Please check my post today at 4:12 pm. about the Whippet. Maybe it's nothing but even tho she said it's not vivi I asked Darlene to also check it since her husband is also a firefighter.Have you heard about this whippet in LI?
Gail,
I'm for Karin Because I think she's the best. I may be wrong so if you have other suggestions please post them.Wouldn't it be wonderful if the foot soldiers and others who have worked so hard can have some resolution to this Vivi Saga.
Margot, no this is the first time I have heard about it. I just spoke with Bonnie and she hasn't heard anything either. WRAP is a rescue group and I am sure knows that Vivi looks like and if they were given a whippet that matches Vivi's description would make a quick call to Bonnie. Bonnie is very much involved in sight hounds and knows them well. The women you spoke with probably is getting alot of call about this dog and is tired of answering the same question over and over again. Was their a picture of this whippet on their site, did it look like Vivi? If there wasn't a picture they should put one up so we all could what she looks like.
Margot, thank you for trying to help out this poor whippet. I hope it finds the right home. Now a question is the dog pregnant or the owner pregnant? If it's the dog , that is very sad, now the dog has to adapt to a new home and have babies. Well at least they are trying to find it a new home and it's not on the streets. Good luck this weekend on the search ladies, maybe she'll show herself so she won't have to have babies on the streets either... keeping the faith
Thank you Chrissy, we need all the luck we can get!!
Margot, Did you ask if this female Whippet was spayed? Probably not Vivi, but it would be worth checking out.
