I just spoke to Commissioner Cooper at Flushing Meadow Corona Park. She knew about Vivi as they had put flyers up and alerted maintanance staff after I called/emailed them last week.
I told her that we believe Vivi was sighted near the footbridge this morning. She said she would alert everyone again to be on the look-out for her.
I have suffered from dyslexia all my life and all those telephone "numbers" are horrendous for me-
I-800-lostdog would be the only way for me to get in touch with searchers at a moments notice if I were to see Vivi....please give that 800 number very serious consideration....it is so fast and easy to remember and negotiate when calling from out running/walking or in a car. My heart and thoughts are with you all- wish MAine were closer-

I think you were the one who posted about Lt. Borgal? He was the one with the net. Do you have his #?...or does anyone else have that info.
He is the one who will get her and it needs to be done NOW, before she leaves this area. Please!
Not sure how the vehicle entrance permits are distributed, but a Vivi flier could be given out with the permit if the park were willing to do so.
I agree with Nicole, we have to act now before she keeps moving on out of the volunteers reach and before her 9 lives runs out. I said my rosary last night and today she reappeared, I will say another one tonight. I was also told by Ashley that someone spotted a dog that fit Sniffles description and a man was walking the dog on a short chain leash. I hope she finds that man because from the description the person gave her the dog was extremely skinny, ears were back and tail was down, not a happy dog.
I SIGNED UP WITH 1-800-LOST-DOG, for the 30-day trial period, so Vivi is registered. I put the telephone numbers of the local volunteers. If needed, I will sign up for the service beyond the 30-day trial period. So, if you want to use 1-800-LOST-DOG on posters, we can do that.

Lt. Alan B. Borgal, a Massachusetts State Humane Officer, has offered the use of a remote controlled drop-net (30’x30’) that when activated drops in 1/3 of a second. The net is designed to be used on dogs. You can activate the net from a 1/4 mile away. They are in the process of purchasing a $1200 dollar infrared camera, so a person can check the net at night. If we have a sighting of Vivi they can come and set up the net, provided that it is possible for someone to monitor the net. Lt. Borgal is a Special State Police Officer and has thirty years experience of Animal Rescue. They also have several other humane trap designs that may be helpful besides cage dog traps. We appreciate the offer and will take advantage of it if possible.
Where do I quickly find a photo of Vivi to put on my posters?
Karen, email me at Thompson_216@hotmail.com and I can send you some Vivi photos for posters.
Hi,
I have been following this story from the west coast since it began and just posted the info on Lt Borgal. One of the things that caught my attention was a mention by him of some "food" that could be purchased that a dog could not resist. At one point it seemed like the owners were going to purchase some. If it is what is used in heartguard dog heartworm preventative medicine my whippet goes nuts as soon as I open her monthly dose...jumping on me, eyes Really large...something to consider?
I just emailed you. As soon as I get the photo I'll past it in. Thanks
If she is using the storm drains - if and that is a big if with no evidence supporting it - is it possible to capture her in one? SOme of them have grates.
1/3 of a second is very fast - does it make a noise when it drops? A whoosh or a clicking sound? And from standing still to exit mode - how far can a Whippet travel in 1/3 of a second. Has it ever been timed in a race? I think pretty darn far - but that isn't based upon any personal knowledge - just how fast a little hound I have can travel.
In Flushing Meadows just past Meadow Lake, there is a very large on ramp directly to Grand Central Parkway. We cannot assume everyone at this park has a cell phone handy to call the people listed on the poster to assist in rescue efforts. I believe an organized, well-thought out effort must be made to trap her or she'll just keep running and with the freeways so close we cannot rely on LUCK anymore.
WARNING
Anyone who will be posting in the park, yesterday I was approached by a short Hispanic man in a small white vehicle who had one of the Vivi cards that were handed out on Saturday. He asked me if he could print his own flyer and put his own phone number on it and then call us. I told him ABSOLUTELY NOT. That the only numbers that should be on our flyers are our designated numbers.
If, in your travels, you should see a flyer that has strange numbers on it - PLEASE TAKE IT DOWN AND DESTROY IT REPLACING IT WITH OUR AUTHORIZED FLYER.
Thanks.
