Bonnie Folz, the trainer and pharaoh-hound owner who has organized two formal searches for Vivi, including one that began just under an hour ago today, says she is getting many emails from people who want to come out tomorrow and next week to help.
"Could you please post that this will be the last organized search I'll be putting together until there is a sighting of Vivi?" Bonnie writes me via email. "Not that I've lost interest or do not care, but I just cannot keep up the pace. After being in one of the cargo buildings on Thursday night, with the doors wide open and being toasty warm inside, I could very well have walked right past Vivi in that building and not have even known it.
"As Paul [Lepiane, Vivi's co-owner] has said, 'Now it's time for Vivi to show herself!' She has found a good hiding place and is eating, but soon will not be so careful and someone will spot her. Those looking to come down and watch or search on other days are welcome to do so; much of the airport is open to the public. Or even go to Hamilton Beach Park and just sit at the rocks and watch for her."
Bonnie, who lives and works just minutes from the airport, will continue to follow up on leads and sighting. Her email is pawsativebf@aol.com.
"Please thank everyone for their good intentions, ideas and thoughts for our search for Vivi," she continues. "We will find her. It just may be weeks from now."

I'm thinking of you searchers today...praying you find Vivi safe and sound.
I was wondering if there were any live webcams anywhere at all in the area where Vivi may be or can any be set up? Then they could be posted online and everyone who is far away can at least look whenever they can and maybe could increase the chances some? Also would she head towards the smell of horses and how far away is Aqueduct race track or any other place close where there are horses I am cluless as I am in Calif.
It seems so odd that those traps aren't catching animals in that wildlife (and feral cat, etc.) rich area every day, not to mention Vivi. Why is that?
You are right. An actual sighting would be a great thing at this point. I check the news every day to see if she has been found. Hopefully she will be home soon. I would love to see a feature segment about all this (complete with a happy ending) during next year's Westminster Dog Show broadcast. Don't give up! She's out there somewhere. Best Wishes.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your search for Vivi today.
Will try to call Delta's CEO, Gerald Grinstein,(or at least someone at that level) at their Atlanta hqs. and gently ask for their help. Perhaps they could post a larger reward and publicize it widely. They have lots of employees at JFK Airport who might be willing to help in the searches. In trying to access telephone numbers, I spoke to their Customer Relations Manager in Alabama and she was totally unaware that this had happened...she was shocked and very sympathetic. Was unable to get an e-mail address. Delta's executive offices in Atlanta are closed on weekends, but I will try Monday morning.
Do not, in any way, want to antagonize them and jeopardize the family's access to the airport grounds. I think "asking gently" is the operative word.
God bless you all...

I think this is the time to accept the donations that have been offered, increase and post the new reward so that airport employees and local residents will be more likely to keep an eye out when the formal searches end. A cat was just reunited with her owner after being outside for 6 months after Hurricane Katrina, so there is still hope.
I'd just like to ask how confident these people are that she's in the cargo area since she has not been spotted once? when a dog has not been spotted 10 days later maybe it's time to search a few miles away, if she was scared why would she come back? Those dogs are not missing the owners at this point ,shes following a new pattern , which she has created for her self. Might I suggest a pet Detective? I know of one who will find her in using her 2 dogs and one psychic instead of 12 which is obviously not getting them very far.She ALWAYS finds the Animal. Hey maybe she never turned around anyway , maybe she just kept going. I'm not trying to take away your hope but she could be anywhere. Normally dogs don't think gee I should turn around , they keep running. or maybe she's in heat ,since she's not fixed. The lady I spoke to ALWAYS finds a pet or the conclusion as to what happend. I believe it's missingpetspi.com. Can someone PLEASE suggest this to the owners I think they will find what they are looking for this way.
I went out looking and distributing flyers again this morning....There are areas near the airport where Vivi could be staying without anyone noticing...I work in some of these areas (a visiting nurse agency) and pets are usually either kept outside or allowed to just roam...also there is a whole area on Guy Brewer Blvd of shipping and cargo companies..only a few were open,(Saturday) plus coffe shops, delis..what I found today was many people who have NO idea who Vivi is, or they have no interest whatsoever until the reward is pointed out. I even had some comments that the reward was too "small" even though these individuals are of very limited means themselves...a whippet running loose would be generally "just another dog"..the blog says we know Vivi is eating..I hope so with all my being, but HOW do we know ? When she is found, will there be immediate access to veterinary care ? she may very well need warmed IV fluids as soon as possible, and who knows what else.
I was wondering also why the traps aren't finding any of the other animals roaming the area.
The report says that Vivi is likely to go to the marshes to hunt around dawn and very late in the day..I was wondering why, since those are likely to be two of the coldest times...
www.missingpetpi.com
Google has a whole page under "Dog Detective"...
I was reading about that woman Andrea in NYC looking for over a week for her beloved dog, and she prob can't even offer a reward
My instinct tells me she is really not warm and eating, and feel she ran far from where she was lost. I hope I am wrong! Also wearing a coat is dangerous for reasons of getting hung up somewhere.
I pray so much for her, and cannot imagine why no one has spotted her at all anywhere. The reward needs to be large and visible to everyone.
I cannot imagine the fear poor Vivi must feel. I really hope she is spotted soon, before something happens.... Bless everyone who is searching for her.
I'm still praying for Vivi. It's such a mystery! I cannot believe, either, that no one has spotted her as yet. This is so frustrating...to keep checking for updates daily, hourly, and no good news. I can only imagine how Paul and Jil must feel, I wish I could give them a big hug and tell them how much love and support they have, and so many prayers around the country. All the searchers are heroes! She WILL be found! All my prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
I live on Long Island and I just watched a segment about the plight of ViVi on Fox News Channel 5 (WNYW) - Bonnie was interviewed, they showed the volunteer searchers @ JFK and pictures of ViVI with the newscaster making note of the $5000 reward. I am not happy about the especially cold weather moving in. I also have many of the same thoughts as my fellow bloggers and wonder if the traps will still be checked or have they been removed - would hate for an animal to be stuck in one.
This coming Thursday I am taking a vacation day from work and have made plans with a relative to hang out at Hamilton Beach for most of the day with high powered binos in the hopes of spotting a glimpse of ViVi...but hopefully she will have been found by then (or maybe half the day @ JFK and half @ Hamilton Beach.) I too can contribute/donate towards whatever; a pet resuce agency, etc. and will search/watch whenever I can.
MAYBE SHE'S IN THE CARGO AREA BUT WHAT IF SHE JUST KEPT RUNNING? NOT UNLIKEY AT ALL. I THINK THEIR FOCUS NEEDS TO BE EVERYWHERE NOT JUST THE AIRPORT AREA. ALSO, WHAT IF SHE WENT IN HEAT? AFTER READING A SUGGESTION ON PET DETECTIVES I HIGHLY SUGGEST IT. WE LOST OUR DOG A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IT WAS 2 WEEKS MY MOM FINALLY SAID I GOTTA CALL! AND THAT PERSON CAME HERE WITH HER DOGS GOT A SCENT FROM HER BLANKETS , THEY TOOK THE BLANKETS WITH THEM AND THE DOG WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM HOME. VERY MUCH WORTH IT. THEY FOUND HER IN 1/2 HOUR. IN THE TOTAL OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF OUR HOME. WE THOUGHT SHE WAS IN A DIFFERENT AREA TOO. THE PSYCHICS ARE NOT GETTING THEM TO THE DOG AND THEIR ARE OPTIONS LIKE THIS OUT THERE . THE OWNERS ARE LEAVING NOW???? UNTIL VIVI IS SPOTTED? MAKES ME WONDER WAS THIS DOG LACKING LOVE AND ONLY USED FOR SHOW? SERIOUSLY HOW MANY OWNERS DOES SHE HAVE ? NOW THEY ARE LEAVING UNTIL SHE IS SPOTTED?? I THINK WE'LL ALL BE SURPRISED WHEN SHE SHOWS UP IN A TOTAL DIFFERENT DIRECTION THE EXPECTED. PLEASE CALL A PET DETECTIVE SHE WILL FIND YOUR DOG.
I was also out at the airport today and its like looking for a needle in a haystack. The place is huge and access to the areas that people think they can search is almost impossible due to security.Where Paul seems to think ViVi might be hiding out is in the marshy area opposite and east of Hamilton Beach. Its quiet, has heated cargo buildings but is OFF LIMITS to us. They check there daily but no new pawprints or dropping have been found. And the traps haven't been touched. The problem with Hamilton Beach as a vantage point....there are fenced railroad tracks obstructing the view unless you walk all the way out to the shore and crawl under the tracks to the other side. And I do mean crawl because theres only about 3 feet of clearance.Residents in that neighborhood go out each day at dawn and dusk looking so that base is pretty much covered.
Paul also mentioned how surprised he was that alot of the airport employees still don't know she is missing. Everyone seems to be convinced that ViVi's still on airport grounds as the entire place is fenced in but finding her in there would take an army of people. I myself think she's in the streets surrounding the airport.Remember that dog Boris who escaped his crate at JFk a few years ago? He turned up in Brooklyn several months later hanging out with a pack of strays. They seem to follow the shoreline. I hope someone spots her soon.Everyday I hug my own dog and everyday my heart breaks alittle more for Paul, the owners and for VIVI.
If Karin Goin the pet detective is interested in assising with the search and if she can be paired up with the owners/Port Authority officials, do you think we can raise money to cover her costs?
Let's stay positive... dogs are very smart & cunning mammals, they've learned to survive living in all sorts of conditions & with all sorts of conditions. Let's never give up on Vivi when she needs us the most. Everyone just pass the word & keep your senses in motion at all times.
YES, KARIN WOULD DO IT SINCE I SPOKE TO HER LAST NIGHT, HER COST ARE EXPENSIVE THOUGH... SHE'D COME FROM CALIFORNIA BUT , THE REWARD FOR VIVI IS $5,000 OBVIOUSLY SHE WOULDN'T ACCEPT A REWARD SINCE THIS HER JOB SO IT WOULD EVEN ITSELF OUT . SHE USES HER OWN DOGS . SHE DID POINT OUT THAT 12 PSYCHICS IS JUST WAY TOO MUCH . AND SHE HAS NEVER NOT SOLVED A CASE . AGAIN HER WEB IS MISSINGPETSPI.COM . YOU CAN CALL HER 24/7 . I HOPE SOMEONE DOES THIS! DOING SO WOULD = CONCLUSION AND HOPEFULLY VIVI WILL BE HOME IN NO TIME. SHE DID SAY THAT SINCE VIVI HAS NOT BEEN SPOTTED ONCE SHE FEELS SHE COULD BE ANYWHERE AND WAS NOT DISCOURAGED AT ALL. SHE SAID SHE'D FIND HER.
I am praying for Vivi day and night. While I believe we should search the area Vivi was lost,I would also stress the importance for everybody in the surrounding areas be aware as well. Some dogs may stay around and some may not. We just don't know what she is thinking. Maybe someone does have her and is waiting to see how high the reward will go. But knowing how leary whippets are, I just don't know. Hopefully someone will post a site where we all can donate to the reward, it can't hurt!I do feel thet Vivi will be found and when she is I know her owners will never let her leave their site again. I pray that they stay strong and DON'T GIVE UP, even when they may think there is no hope just keep searching.Vivi would be as loyal as they are being.VIvi stay strong so you can come home.
What can we do to get Karen in touch with Vivi's owners?I would donate to the cost and I'm sure others would too.We need to find out how we can get this done.
No matter how I try, Vivi is on my mind every waking hour. Tonite (Saturday) the winds are howling at 35 mph andd temps will be down in the teens. I am also willing to contribute whatever small amount I can to get Karin Goin here to try and find Vivi. I also wonder how many owners Vivi has and how can they possibly think of leaving her here on the streets. Residential areas near airport have some rough areas...she is not spayed and is going to be mauled and chased by every stray dog in the area. This is simply horrific! Was she really only a trophy to them...please prove me wrong! So many people care and that is comforting, but Vivi's time is going to run out. Please, please, I ask her "owners" to contact www.missingpetspi.com. There is nothing to lose. I am planning to call Delta's CEO in Atlanta Monday am and ask them to step up to the plate and acknowledge their responsibilities here...perhaps instead of posting a large reward as I was going to ask, Delta could contribute to getting Karin Goin here. I doubt it because I do feel their legal people will tell them that's acknowledging responsibility and they are already afraid of a law suit....allI can do is try and call. Delta has kept this very quiet seems to me. Have Vivi's "owners" approached Delta?
I am grasping at straws - I just want this poor animal in a safe and warm place.

Most recent update from this evening
Vivi is constantly in my heart, in my thoughts and prayers. Please don't give up ... she is out there.
I agree, 12 psychics is way too many; a pet detective is likely to be of much more assistance.
I'm also concerned that despite the widespread publicity, it appears from the comments here that many people at the airport and surrounding areas still don't know about her. The reward needs to be widely known as well, and not just at the airport and surrounding area; she may be quite some distance away by now.
I think the web cams idea is wonderful if it's feasible. She may or may not be still within the airport so all possibilities and options need to be kept open and flexible.
Please, please consider using the pet detective as suggested above. Karin can be reached at karin@missingpetpi.com
Just please, don't give up on Vivi; please continue the search until she is found. she's out there and waiting to be found; I feel it in my heart. I'll continue to keep Vivi and everyone connected with finding her in my thoughts and prayers.
Please consider accepting donations to continue the search and hire the pet detective.
Thank you for keeping us updated; God bless you all.
I just e-mailed Deltato try to get them to take some responsability in the situation.I told them about the pet PI and hoped the least they could do is contact the family and try to set something up.It may not do any good but I wnated them to know how many animal loveres were followingthisstory and all the publicity it is attracting.I think they shouldstep up and try anything the family request to help, since the family trusted a part of their family with them and they failed.Again I also hope people are getting flyers out everywhere. She could be miles away by now.And just like the story on this site about Poetry, it needs all the publicity all over.People need to know!I belive she is out there and the owners should not give up hope, Vivi needs them.I will do whatever I can to get Karen out there to help.I will keep checking in.(Vivi we love you and I am praying you get home soon baby.Hang in there.)
Again, I'm sure people (myself included) would be happy to donate to help hire the pet detective and keep the search active.
Hope something will be set up for donations if that is what is holding up the hiring.
I've emailed Bo a link to missingpetspi.com. I just hope he see it with how busy he is and how much email I'm sure he's receiving. Bo has requested that people please not post negative thoughts. Nobody feels worse for Vivi than they do. You can read the latest from Vivi's people at: http://www.whippetview.com/vivilatest.html
Any night time searches going on?
What about night vision goggles and heat sensors.
Anyone know or have connections to police/national guard/fire department or like academies that train these folks to try a night training session in search of Vivi? How about a local colleges that have degrees in police science (or some such)? How about folks who need to do community service joining in on the search? Search and rescue training session?? Let's get creative and find that dog!
