New traffic light causing rush-hour backups

What’s happening at the Southern State Parkway overpass on Wellwood Road?

The new traffic turn signal for vehicles heading east on the parkway has been changed from green arrow/green ball to a green arrow/red arrow, causing major backups and delays at rush-hour.

We’re calling Suffolk County Public Works to see what’s up.

Stay tuned.

Gwen,

There are several issues with the changes in the traffic light at this intersection. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it before. They did change the green arror/red arrow southbound on Wellwood to be longer but now it just holds up northbound traffic. The light coming off SSP eastbound to Wellwood was changed as well. I pass through there around 7:00am and I had to stop under the bridge and wait 3 light changes to get onto Wellwood northbound. Whose bright idea was this?
