Open: A taste of Peru in Hicksville

MachuPicchu.jpegLa Candela brings ceviches, grillings and more to Hicksville. The Peruvian eatery is run by Elvin Paulino, a veteran of La Pace in Glen Cove. You can start with an opener of sliced potatoes and hot peppers, move on to a ceviche of shrimp, calamari or assorted seafood, and then dive into the fish du jour in garlic sauce. Heartier dishes include sauteed beef with onions and tomatoes, T-bone steak, shell steak, and steak with sausage and fries. Peruvian specialties: chicken, beef or pork with fried rice, broiled pork, chicken with vegetables. Pastas also are available. The new spot is at 495 S. Broadway; 516-470-0805. Moderate prices.
