Entourage 2008 hot stove report, Vol. VII

entourage_season4_dvd.jpg * Time to pre-order Entourage Season 4 on DVD. HBO will start shipping Aug. 26, just in time to get everyone hyped up for Season 5 which will start a few weeks after that.

* This is a week old -- hey, I was on vacation in Hawaii and Vegas -- but in case you hadn't heard, Bow Wow has a recurring role as a stand-up comic in season five.

* According to GoErie.com, pro golfer Phil Mickelson has a guest spot in an upcoming episode of "Entourage." Consider that "Entourage" guest stars tend to make fun of themselves (OK, so the writers and producers make them do it). Then consider that Mickelson is notorious for collapsing in big moments of major tournaments. Oh, this has the makings for some hilarious television.

* Our fave, Emmanuelle Chriqui, breaks down working with the "Entourage" actors in this little interview.

Mickelson collapsing in major tourneys? He's won two Masters and a PGA Championship. If anything, they should make fun of the fact that he's not really the nice guy fans think he is. Rumor is, the other players on tour think he's a first class dick. In fact, they call him FIGJAM (f*uck i'm good, just ask me).

From USA Today: Emmanuelle Chriqui will be back as Sloan for at least one episode of season 5 :

".....But the actress, who splits her time between New York and Los Angeles, isn't leaving Entourage yet. She'll be back in at least one episode when the series returns in the fall. "I don't know when or what it is yet," she says. "But yes, there's definitely room for Sloan and E to explore things."

From the new ESPN the magazine June 16 edition on p.34 in the Media Blitz section:

"Tube News: "I have a unique approach to the scene: Don't embarrass yourself." Jeremy Piven offered before whiffing his way through two golf-centric episodes for the upcoming season of Entourage (starting Sept. 28) In the story arc, Ari Gold first takes on avid golfer Mark Wahlberg, then a fictional studio honcho and his golf pro--one Phil Mickelson."

From a Doug Ellin interview:

Season Five of "Entourage" kicks off in September, and Ellin says it's the best yet because there's more character development for people like Ari, played by the Emmy-winning Jeremy Piven, and Turtle, portrayed by Jerry Ferrara.

"This is going to be Turtle's breakout year. Jerry's been waiting his turn to get some storylines, he's been begging me, so this year he's going to have some stuff. You'll get to see him with a girlfriend, you get to see him pursue actual jobs."

There are at least two more seasons of "Entourage" to come, Ellin adds.

"We're doing at least seven but hopefully eight," says Ellin, who's modest when asked if he's still ripe with great ideas for Vince and the gang after five seasons.

"I don't know if I have lots of great ideas, but I'm still pumped about the show. We still have a really good time, we're all good friends - the hardest part is the ideas but once they get going, it's a great working environment, so we all want to keep going."

This season will focus on one central question, he adds: is "Medellin," Vince's out-on-a-limb movie about Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, going to be saved?

"That's the question of the whole season," he says.

A litany of familiar faces will be making appearances on "Entourage" this season, including Gary Cole as a former colleague of Ari's, golfer Phil Mickelson and Mark Wahlberg, the real-life star whose Hollywood capers are the inspiration for the show. Wahlberg is an executive producer of "Entourage."

BTW- Doug Ellin was sitting courtside at the Lakers Celtics finals last night- sorta in the same seats Ari would occupy- how cool is that?

more from Doug Ellin:

As for next season? Ellin says it will be full of the same bravado as the previous four -- and naturally include at least a few big-name cameos.

"Tom Rothman, chairman of Fox, is going to be on the show -- he's a fan. So, that's great," says Ellin. "But I don't think about the show much in advance. I take it one script at a time and right now I want to finish up writing and take some well-needed time off."
