The exit of Michael Johns is not, repeat not, shocking.
Yet why has the morning buzz turned to a morning roar - that Johns exit was like some sort of amazing turn, totally unexpected, profoundly terrible, etc.? Michael Johns' exit has become, all of a sudden, this season's Next Big Flap, the First Big Flap being lap dancing pictures-or-whatever of David Hernandez.
I just saw Kelly Ripa do a Paula - Omygod omygod omygod (goes Kelly). He was a latter day JIM MORRISON.
What? Kelly, you were born like 30 years after Morrison died. How would you know what Jim Morrison was like.
I knew Jim Morrison. Michael Johns was no Jim Morrison.
Now, let's put this in proper proportion, shall we? It was a "surprise." Just a surprise. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I mean, come on. He wasn't going to win "American Idol." David Archuleta is going to win "American Idol." That is so certain, so writ in stone, so don't-even-bother-arguing-with-me (because I'll just plug my ears and go "neeener neeener neeener...not listening...not listening") that I've even written my lead for the story the night he wins. Here it is:
"David Archuleta won 'American Idol' last night."
Catchy, isn't it? You're right. I'll work on it.
But here's my point (and I do have one): Michael Johns was good, but not great. His last few outings have been blah. Aerosmith on Tuesday? Blah blah. Kristi Lee, who effectively LIVES in the bottom three, has actually gotten better - or better at getting more clever in song choice. Brooke - one of my early favorites - has gotten worse, to the point of awful. Yet she has so completely conned her fans with that sweet lil' ol' me act that they don't even hear her performances.
But Johns never seemed to work his fans, never worked the judges. He was a bit of a cypher, really, unreadable, inscrutable. The Great Sphinx of the seventh season.
Sometimes it's not just about the singing. Sometimes it's about selling yourself too. Johns never learned that little secret. That's why he's gone.
No shock. Just a surprise. And in hindsight, a small one.

I agree with you on this, except I'm not positive David A is going to win..honestly this season for me is like last season, I don't really like any of them anymore and don't care who wins. I'm glad Michael is gone so I don't have to look at any more of those scarves..ugh...
I was so confused by the scarf week after week. It looked like an old hippy threw up on his neck. I was trying to figure out if he was trying to cover a herpes outbreak or something.
I TOTALLY DISAGREE BEYOND BELIEF! MICHAEL JOHNS HAD EVERYTHING AND STILL DOES. HE WILL GO ON TO MAKE CDS, AND I WILL BUY THEM. HE WAS MY NUMBER ONE PICK. You are likely correct in that it will be David. Or at least one of the Davids. Top two will undoubtedly be David Cook and David Archuletta. Cook is actually the better all around performer. Yes, Archuletta has a fantastic voice, but I don't think his performing skills are where they will be in a few years. Cook has had much more professional experience and it shows. There is an age difference between them, so that is not surprising. Archuletta definitely has the likeable quality factor going for him. He is adorable and talented, and teen fan or middle aged, no one can deny that.
As for Johns, other than the occasional good performance (and only good, not great), he has been as lacklustre as Kristy, Syesha, Brooke, and Jason. They are all good looking, and pleasant singers, but over all...boring

Guess the ratings were suffering for Idol so that i had to throw in the ole' shocker to give a jumpstart to the ratings....it's so obvious...well, u just lost another viewer...
Hey "Verne", if you really knew Jim Morrison then I would think you could come up with a little respect for Michael Johns. Everything he performed on the show is in my cd collection. He obviously is a fan of the 60, 70, 80's as I am and that is the problem. Everyone who is left (excluding David Cook) is going to produce the same cheap pop/rap crap that has been on the radio for years now and is still terrible. How many Idol winners are really successful? Two? You have forgotten Daughtry obviously. Wow, he didn't matter did he? Just the most truly successful and talented of the past seasons. If you consider Michael Johns a "small" loss then I know you're a Britney Spears fan. You go boy!?!?

Ryan Seacrest is CRUEL! What he did last night to Michael Johns totally crossed the line. There is no excuse for his behavior and he owes Michael Johns a public apology. They also should bring back the Wildcard setup in this case. Let him come back one night to sing,and if he doesn't get the top scores the next time, he'll be permanently eliminated.

He lost the popular vote. The most popular on the show this year is David A and it's not because he the best singer on the show. It's the everybody's little brother, the kid next door, he reminds me of my nephew, he's like my grandson and the teen hottie cuteness that winning votes.

I always thought he was getting by on his good looks.
He always sang note for note JUST like the record, and he hardly ever hit the big notes right on. They always seemed flat, to me.
He sang popular songs though, and that kept him in.

I NEVER!!! I never thought that Michael Johns would be out this quick!! I think that Syesha should have gone much earlier instead of him... It's still a very good toss-up as to who wins this competition but its still all about the voters!!! Well, that saying is as good as it get's!!! i disagree. i think michael johns has real talent. sure, he may not have won the thing, but he still didn't deserve to be booted out this early in the competition. kristy lee should have gone weeks ago, or even syesha. i believe michael has a very original sound and that he will have a successful career ahead of him.
i also think ryan is an a**hole for what he did to michael, humiliating him like that. i guess he's not the nice guy he makes himself out to be. if he has a single decent bone in his body, he should publicly apologize to michael.

Michael Johns can sing but he is not a better pure singer than Syesha Mecardo. So the thought that Syesha should have been voted off long before Johns is ridiculous.
David A is the best ballardare but David C is the superior entertainer. But in my opinion, that is because David C is far more experienced or seasoned as an older already professioanl performer, albeit I heard that David A was a finalist on Star Search.
I think the voters are on the mark and eliminating folks as they should be...
