DIANE WERTS: 'Grosse Pointe' Out

TV DVD “exclusives” can drive you crazy when you’re trying to find a show you love. Retailers like Best Buy make deals with disc distributors to be the only place to originally release a set, and you’re out of luck if that isn’t where you shop. (For awhile, anyway: These sets show up eventually at other sellers.)

Amazon.com is trying this trick now, too. As of Tuesday (Nov. 7), they’re the only place to get Darren Star’s backstage showbiz spoof “Grosse Pointe.” (That’s the same day for wide release of Star’s bigger tube hits, “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Melrose Place.” See reviews of those in Tuesday’s paper.)

Want to hear what Star has to say about his little show that could (attract a cult) but couldn’t (rise in the ratings)? Amazon has posted Star’s audio interview about “Grosse Pointe.”

This “Special Features” page offers other TV DVD interviews, too, with the “Prison Break” cast and David Lynch, among others. Might be worth a bookmark.
