Michael Jackson tops pop charts again
Michael Jackson is, once again, King of Pop Charts.
A record-setting nine Jackson-related albums – eight solo sets and one from the Jackson 5 – sold enough copies after his death Thursday afternoon to land in Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums charts this week. Jackson’s hit compilation "Number Ones" also set a record, becoming the first album ever to sell the most copies in a week and yet not top the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart, which focuses on new releases. According to Nielsen Soundscan, "Number Ones" sold 108,000 copies last week, while "The Essential Michael Jackson" sold 102,000 copies and "Thriller" sold 101,000 – all of which bested The Black Eyed Peas’ "The E.N.D.," which returns to No. 1 on the Hot 200 on sales of 88,000.
Jackson also broke a record on the singles charts, where 25 of his songs took up a full third of Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart, with "Thriller" coming in at No. 2 behind Black Eyed Peas’ "I Gotta Feeling." David Cook held the previous record of 14 simultaneous hits last year, after winning "American Idol."

Britney Spears' comeback album "Circus" easily tops the charts on sales of 505,000 copies last week, making it her fifth No. 1 album debut.

For this week at least, Coldplay can drop the "used to" from their new single. Their "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" album does rule the world.

Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" (J) jumps into the No. 1 spot this week, pushing Usher's "Love in This Club"

Though Jay-Z’s hefty 79% fall off from his opening week sales has some worried, H.O.V.A. still has the area locked down, as “Kingdom Come” holds down a second week atop the Newsday charts. The Beatles hang tough too, along with Tony Bennett. They all beat the national No. 1 Incubus’ “Light Grenades,” which sold 165,000 copies in its opening week.
Josh Groban tops the Newsday charts with his new album “Awake” (143/Reprise), beating out Jim Jones’ “Hustler’s P.O.M.E.” (Diplomats) and the “Now 23” compilation, which was the top-seller across the country with sales of 337,000.
“Hanna Montana” mania may not be as frenzied on Long Island as it is in the rest of the country, as My Chemical Romance tops the Newsday chart with its concept album “The Black Parade” and John Legend’s “Once Again” comes in at No. 2. Nationally, the “Hanna Montana” soundtrack was No. 1, selling 281,0000 copies, beating My Chem (240,000) and Legend (231,000).
