American Idol 7: Week 3 (The Gals)

syesha mercadoThe gals were a bit too predictable this week, holding tight to the classics of Whitney, Mariah and Celine – regardless of whether they did the songs originally. Syesha, Ramiele, Carly and Asia’h all handled them just fine, but none of them really tried anything new. That’s what made Brooke White’s take on Pat Benatar’s “Love Is a Battlefield” stick out, setting her laid-back vibe apart once again.

I’m not sure Simon will like Amanda Overmeyer’s take on Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You” as much when he sees it on TV. She looked truly uncomfortable singing it and even missed a few notes, but she may have made enough of an impression to save herself this week, as Kady and Kristy continue to fade into the woodwork.

Syesha Mercado, “Saving All My Love For You”
Brooke White, “Love Is a Battlefield”
Ramiele Malubay, “Against All Odds”
Carly Smithson, “I Drove All Night”
Asia’h Epperson, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”
Amanda Overmeyer, “I Hate Myself for Loving You”
Kristy Lee Cook, “Faithfully”
Kady Malloy, “Who Wants To Live Forever?”

WILL BE CUT: Kady and Kristy
SHOULD BE CUT: Kady and Kristy
ACTUALLY CUT: Kady and Asia'h
