Alanis Morissette has announced a May 20 release for "Flavors of Entanglement," on the Maverick/Reprise label. It will be her first album of new, original studio material since 2004's "So-Called Chaos."
Morissette has been performing new tracks like "Torch" and "Moratorium" during her current tour opening for Matchbox Twenty, hinting at a dreamier, darker, more electronic-based sound.
That may be due to the album's producer, Guy Sigsworth, a British musician (he's one-half of the duo Frou Frou) who's worked with indie pop sirens such as Jem, Bebel Gilberto and Imogen Heap. Though Sigsworth helmed the track "Everytime" for Britney Spears's album "In the Zone," the Morissette disc marks his biggest notch yet as a mainstream producer.
Among the new tracks, according to a press release from Maverick: "Underneath," inspired by Mahatma Ghandi; "Versions of Violence;" "Citizen of the Planet;" "Tapes;" "In Praise of the Vulnerable Man;" "Not as We;" the alarmingly-titled "Giggling Again for No Good Reason;" and the closing "Incomplete."
Here is some typically grainy fan footage -- good sound, though -- from a couple of recent performances. The first is "Torch," from a performance in Oklahoma City. The second is "Moratorium" at an unidentified venue.
