Melville man meets Obama Girl

Obama GirlPolitics makes strange bedfellows, but now it's making strange band mates as well.

Danny Ross, a Melville singer-songwriter, will host a Super Tuesday concert at The Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan with a particularly partisan guest, singer Amber Lee Ettinger, better known as "Obama Girl" of YouTube fame.

With the TV set glued to CNN in the background, Ross plans to bring his Ben Folds-style piano rock to a version of the homemade R&B hit, "I Got a Crush... on Obama." The video, directed by a couple of Hempstead filmmakers, became an Internet smash last June, lending juice to Obama's campaign. Ettinger will sing on Tuesday night, though she lip-synched to another woman's voice in the video.

The show will have an added bit of irony: It turns out that Ross's day job is as an aide to Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat who's been a longtime supporter of Obama's rival, Hillary Clinton.

Ross says that although he approached Ettinger about performing, the event is non-partisan and that he himself remains currently "uncommitted."

The show takes place 9:30 p.m. Feb 5 at The Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, Manhattan. 21 and over. Tickets are $8. Call 212-614-0505 or go to www.bowerypoetry.com.
