The Klaxons win the Mercury Prize

"Nu rave" band The Klaxons took home the Mercury Prize (the British equivalent of the Album of the Year Grammy) last night, beating out Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys and Bat for Lashes among others.

In recent years, Mercury Prize winners (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Dizzee Rascal) have used the award to generate interest in America. But The Klaxons' distinctively British sound may find a tough sell on this side of the Atlantic, where rave culture never really made it into the mainstream the first time around.
