'President Howard Stern' would be bad for Roosevelt

howard stern
Shock-jock Howard Stern knows exactly what he would do if he was ever elected President. Nuke Roosevelt.

On his show Tuesday on Sirius satellite radio, the Long Island native recounted one of the numerous beatings he claims to have received while growing up in Roosevelt and attending public school.

Stern shared a story of a beating he took during a class while the teacher turned the other way. The fight, Stern said, started after his mother called the school to complain about a bully who earlier had attacked his friend Jose.

The bully, Stern said, had been called to meet with the “Dean of Boys," who Stern says was like a warden.

“I would drop a bomb on it,” Stern said of his childhood town after recounting the story and his frustration with teachers who allegedly turned their back as students were terrorized in class. Stern went further, saying the community was diseased and that no good has ever come from there.

As many of our readers know, Pet Rock calls Long Island home and we know a thing or two about our towns. We know that some good has in fact come from Roosevelt including Dr. J, Flavor Flav, Charlie and Eddie Murphy and, of course, Chuck D.

Stern Speaks The Truth

this news paper is more and more like People or the Enquirer. Why not explore the roots of Sterns frustration? The reporting from this paper is so glib its frustrating.

and Roosevelt is a disaster. Having an Uncle Tom like Flavor Flav originate there makes no difference.

Settle down, hmmm.

you're reading this in a pop culture blog, not an investigative piece. get that straight first, then maybe people will pay attention to you more.

"We know that some good has in fact come from Roosevelt including Dr. J, Flavor Flav, Charlie and Eddie Murphy and, of course, Chuck D...."

Are you nuts? That's what you call "good" ????

Hey Anonymous,

Dr. J: Single-handedly carried a professional sports league on his back for a few years, then re-invented a part of that sport that is still revered 30 years later.

Chuck D and Flavor Flav: The founding members of one of the most influential, game-changing rap groups of all-time.

Eddie Murphy: Trading Places, Raw, Delirious, Dreamgirls, 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop.

Charlie Murphy: His True Hollywood Story on Chappelle Show is the stuff of legend.

You may be whining about how that's just entertainment stuff and that it doesn't make a huge difference in improving quality of life. Correct, but this is a pop culture blog, not Meet the Press.

If you want significant good, look at Joe Vito. He's the high school football coach at Roosevelt. His teams are always successful on the field, which is the least significant contribution he makes in those kids' lives. Ask anyone who knows the man, the town and the program.

Stern is 100% on the money, Roosevelt is a Zoo. Stern has spoke and written on the subject of his many black on white beatings which he took because his mother wanted to be the last hold out in a town that was declining into the way it is today.

I think an air strike on Elmont would not be such a bad idea either

Flavor Flav & Chuck D are two examples of GOOD that came out of Roosevelt? Are you serious? 2 guys who headed up an anti-semetic, racist rap group? Flavor Flav, who has children with numerous women, some of which he hasn't seen in years? These are some of your examples of 'good people'?

Not only should Roosevelt be nuked, but so should Newsday's offices - what a piece of trash this paper has become, thanks to dimwits like yourself.

Get a clue!

only glaring problem I read is lumping Dr J in with the rest of that motley crew.
There are many places in LI that should be "marked as morbid" and wiped clean & Roosevelt is high on that list.
Stern is obviously looking for a reaction with his "shock jock" comments, but only until someone who can call it like they see becomes a decision maker will Long Island as a whole, and places like Roosevelt, Hempstead, New Cassell, and so many parts of smaller communities (Manorhaven, Central Islip, Brentwood, Westbury, .......) will just get worse. Drugs, gangs, and a way of life that lacks moral respect for other humans is overrunning Long Island.
If Flav-O-Flav made a deal with MS-13 he'd have a better chance of becoming Nassau County Commissioner than Stern does President.

Stern is and always was a pantload. Does anyone still listen to him?
Does he really matter? I think not. Screw him, report on something important like Brittany, or Paris....sheesh.

Didn't Stern come from Roosevelt? I guess he is including himself in his statement where nothing good comes from there.

Yes, Roosevelt has it's problems. Yes school district is a joke. It was a joke when I went there. But to nuke it no!!!! There are still good people there. I have lived there since 1969. Yes I am leaving in a few years but, only because the taxes are to high. Stern should try to give something back to this community. Damn I got my but kicked too. Grow up and get over it!!!

Hmm writes:"Having an Uncle Tom like Flavor Flav originate there makes no difference."

You have your stereotypes mixed up. Flavor Flav would be classified as a Stepin Fetchit. The difference being that the former is someone who sides allies him self with the white majority either for his own gain or as a result of hatred for his own race. The latter is someone who entertains the white majority through all manner of grotesque buffoonery.

It was said in jest, but the town COULD use some help.

Like anyone running for office people say and or do dumb things. First, don't forget they're human. Second, humans are supposed to make mistakes. If Howard ran for president I'd seriously consider giving him my vote. Howard tries to fix his mistakes when he makes one. He's true to his word. In a way he's used his media to be a passive revolutionary. Eitherway Howard you have to keep Sen Blutarsky out of the Oval Office. NO MORE BUSHIT
