Leave Lindsay alone!
Sorry, we couldn't resist that Chris Crocker reference.
You get a look at those Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe photos in New York Magazine yet?
Whoa, nelly!
But before you rush to judgment and villify her in online forums and tabloid television, ask yourself this question and try to answer it honestly: How much different are these photos than what's in the latest Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue?
If you've had the chance to flip through that thing, by the last of the 200 pages, you'll wonder if you bought SI or Maxim or some softcore porn mag.
Don't try the "Yeah, but those SI photos are classy" line. The Lohan photos are just as tasteful in terms of photography. And is a see-through scarf any different than a wet, white T-shirt?
We think not.
As for that one photo without the scarf, well, we can't really argue for or against that (at least not in print). Plenty of famous folks have done the topless look and didn't get an adverse reaction in the press or public opinion.
So before you let all the negative press about Lindsay in the pass affect your judgment, take a look at the SI swimsuit -- or any other magazine aimed at younger men -- and see if it's really all that different.

Your entire argument is completely besides the point. The point is Ms. Lohan is no Marilyn Monroe. To imply that they look alike is absurd. Gender is the only thing the two have in common.
Hawk, you are correct: she's not Marilyn. No one here is arguing that she is.
My point is that before anyone ridicules her for doing the shoot wearing two flowers and a scarf, look around at what's become the accepted norm for magazine photo spreads these days.
That's the only argument I'm making.
I'm not sure what the hoopla surrounding these pics is, but I think the situation begs the question of given her past what is she trying to accomplish, where is she going and is trying to emulate someone who famously died of an OD positive when you are a recovering addict yourself? Also, your point regarding images in mags geared towards young men is apples and oranges, New York Mag is not marketed in that direction.
Finally someone mentions the fact that these photos, as with Marilyn's, have a "warning: impending train wreck" label attached to them. Lindsay's clearly not too bright, since her self destructive tendencies don't seem to preclude her from trying to copy photos Marilyn shot when she had two toes in the grave. And like Britney Spears, the public just keeps on staring without a whole heckuva lot of concern. I do agree with Mark La Monica's original sentiment, in that these photos aren't any racier than SI's swimsuit shots, but there isn't thoughts of impending death hovering over those swimsuit babes.
