Most annoying holiday songs

By Jonathan McCarthy

If your home is anything like mine during the holidays, there is holiday music playing 24/7. My wife has every radio tuned to the station that plays holiday music all day, the cable TV is tuned to the Seasonal Classics digital music station and even the satellite radio in the car reminds me ‘tis the season.

Now, I like this time of year as much as anyone, but all this non-stop holiday music each year reminds me of one thing. There are some very annoying holiday songs out there.

I’m sure it is hard to write a classic, such as "I’ll Be Home for Christmas," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," or "Christmas in Hollis," but apparently it is easy to pen a bad one.

Here is a look at some of the most annoying, and popular holiday songs. Some are divisive and some are just so bad they should be banned forever. Take a look and cast your vote:

"Santa Baby" by Madonna: This rendition is boo-dee-boo bad.

"Dominick the Donkey" by Lou Monte: This song you either love or hate. I’ll let you decide.

"Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano: This classic makes the list because once you hear it you can’t get it out of your head.

"12 Pains of Christmas" by Bob Rivers: Hearing "rigging up the lights" the first time is funny. Only the first time.

"Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney: This song is made worse by the fact that you know how good of a musician Paul McCartney is.

"Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" by Elmo and Patsy: Not much to say here. Just plain bad.

"Jingle Bells" by the Barking Dogs: Not a real song, but they play it on the radio so it makes the list.

"The Chanukah Song" by Adam Sandler: Again, a polarizing song based mostly on one’s devotion, or lack there of, to Adam Sandler.

Now that you've watched the videos above (remember though, those are just for audio purposes), it's time to vote for the most annoying holiday song.

I don't have a bad thing to say about any of the songs listed above. And why is The Chanukah Song on the list?! Got a problem with that?!

The holiday songs that belong on the list are the ones we were all forced to grow up with, not these!

Christmas Shoes - sorry folks, Christmas is a Happy time, not a tear-jerker...

I agree with Gerald. The Christmas Shoes song is by far the most annoying.

I agree...the songs on this list are not anywhere close to the worst of the christmas songs!!! what about little drummer boy....now thats a horror!!

Any song is bad if you hear it over & over & over & over again! That's the real problem...everyone is burned out on all "the
usual suspects"...we need new x'mas/chanukah songs!!!

who came up with this list? I love dominic the donkey and "The Chanukah Song they are great!

I can do without Madonna and the barking dogs but come on, Domnick????

There is a tuneless song by "The Waitresses" that causes my radio to take a beating whenever it is played.

ANY CHRISTMAS SONG BY MARIAH CAREY, WHO IS THE ONLY ONE WHO SINGS THEM LIKE SHE IS HAVING AN ORGASM.

Yeah, any song played all the time is annoying and I don't have a particular problem with any on the list but there is one song especially that makes me roll my eyes - 'Jingle Bells' or whatever it's called sung by Streisand. Lay off the coffee Bab's! It's horrible and I guess the DJ's know it too 'cause thankfully I haven't heard it yet this season. Hope my luck holds out.

I can think of Xmas songs that are much worse than the above

*is forced to listen to the xmas station at work everyday for 8+ hrs*

And I like a lot of the songs you dislike >_>

"Feliz Navidad" is on this "most annoying" list, and "The Chipmunk's Christmas" song isn't? Are you nuts? Or just deaf?

I also think that those songs on KJOY that are nothing more then the same x-mas songs replayed on a circa 1980's casio keybord are the most annoying ones of all time. What are they thinking?

I am sorry, but the WORST Christmas song ever is "The Christmas Shoes" This contrived Redneck sobfest is not only a downer, but it also insults our intelligence. I wanna hear "Holly Jolly Christmas" or "Silver Bells". Depressing songs have a place in country music but not Christmas carols!!! Hey, I,ve got an idea for a song! How about one about a little girl with a flesh eating virus who writes a letter to Santa asking him to stop the pain.

I agree with NEWYAWK - should probably add "Grown-Up Christmas List" to the bunch.

If you're tired of the same old Holiday songs you should check out this song by the band PATENT PENDING
It's called "She's a ho ho ho Merry Christmas"

HILARIOUS!!! Definitely better than the average holiday song!

Chanuka: sad.
12 pains: sadder.
Dog jingle bells: OMG!
grandma got ran over: no, just, no.
wonderful christmas: thats actually not a bad song!
dominic the donkey: speachless.
spanish song: you've got to be kidding.
santa baby: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

(im very sarcastic!)

all and all-- donkey song is the worst!

yo Gerald Catalanotto, christmas shoes is awesome!

This list is pretty useless - the Andy Williams version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is easily the worst Christmas song ever.

Further, I guess I don't know "how good of [sic] a musician Paul McCartney is", although he was the third best Beatle circa 1970. Everything he's done since then, including "Wonderful Christmas Time," has been pretty embarassing.

Finally, putting Adam Sandler on this kind of a list is pointless - an Adam Sandler song is going to be painful as a matter of course.

Christmas Shoes is a sure-fire station changer. If I'm in another room, my wife will change the station so I don't hurt myself running to the radio.

And you just know that right after the guy leaves the store, the kid returns the shoes, keeps the cash, and walks to the store down the block to pull the same scam on some other shlump.

they are all good songs....i love them all

any of the songs played for the christmas season, which now begins sometime before thanksgiving, and close to halloween, can become a pain. just like our present day presidential candidates, over, and over, and over, and over, and over , ad naseum.

Waaaaaaalkin in a wintaaaaaaaa wonnerlannn by Macy Grey - Fingernails on chalkboard.

I have to say i can tolerate all those songs and I love dominick!! My picks for most annoying songs would be: Little Drummer Boy ( i don't care who sings it i hate that song!), winter wonderland by the eurythnics, christmas in the city, christmas shoes and i'm sure there are others but that will do. Happy holidays all!!

Paul McCartney is as good a musician as he is because he understands that you can't write "Hey, Jude" every week, nor would you want to. Also, my computer brings in a number of classical stations which play some seriously lovely Christmas music. Liberate yourselves! Try classical! The Chipmonks are wonderful too, of course.

im gonna have to go wit the the other true christmas people here and say the song christmas shoes is not a good christmas song...its plain awful, it is not happy and never brings a smile to my face about the christmas spirit, i get the point of the song but come on, i would rather listen to the woody allen 1000 times each day then that crappy holiday song

"Wonderful Christmas Time" proves beyond a shadow of a doubt who is REALLY responsible for the breakup of the Beatles.

Only in America do we ridicule CHRISTMAS SONGS!

You bunch of stupid donkeys!!

I hate the shoes song; when it is on I switch the station. I love Dominic the donkey....I sing the Spanish song as Fleece Navidad and it helps....

The song "Pendulum" By Foundry.....................

Oh wait Christmas songs, sorry wrong thread

The song "Pendulum" By Foundry.....................

Oh wait Christmas songs, sorry wrong thread

No Audio!!!!!!!!

I agree that Christmas Shoes is the most annoying song, the stupid thing makes me weepy every time and it's unfair, here I am wrapping a present for my grandson and that darn song comes on and makes me feel bad that I bought a present for him! And I have another one for Feliz Navidad - when we hear that, we sing it "police at the door" - try it, it's addicting...

I agree "The Christmas Shoes" is the most pathetic song that has any reference to Christmas in it. The only reason this song has Christmas in it is so some stupid radio station will play it annualy. Other than that, this "song" would disappear and never be played again. It's an obvious contrived song that the creators knew would be played (and receive royalities for). Another station changer for me is the song "River". Damn Light FM plays one version by Manalow and the other Ronstat One reference to Christmas and the rest of the song is about a loser who "made my baby cry", and wishes they had a river they could skate away on. Me too, and hopes the "danger, thin ice" sign was removed. That would end their trip, real quick!

Christmas Shoes and Grown-up Christmas list are the worst!!! and they aren't even on your list. Do over ;)

Christmas shoes has GOT to GO!!!Keep Christmas MERRY!!!!!!!
Wonderful Christmas Time is a pathetic song for the talent of Paul M, and So This is Christmas by John L makes me nauseated. Especially when Yoko starts yodeling and the kids that try to sing too...Blech!
Faliz Navidad..we should have to press 2 to hear this song.
There are milions of Christmas songs that are done by just as many artists...why do we have to hear tha same stinking songs over and over & over again, until they all make me want to convert?

You don't like "Santa Baby" or "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer?" Well, you won't to listen to "A Very 80's Christmas" then--which just happens to air this Saturday morning from 9AM to 11AM on Long Island's 90.3FM..........

For what it's worth (and this is all true), Elmo and Patsy are now divorced. Elmo himself was a veterinarian.

Darn right we won't be listening to that!!!!
I'd rather listen to babies crying on an airplane!

I love Dominic the Donkey! How about "Stephen, the Alternative Lifestyle Reindeer"? Now, THAT belongs on the list!
