Whatever you think of Coach Tom Coughlin or kicker Lawrence Tynes, things worked out amazingly for the New York Giants Sunday night. It made me think of a company that tries once, twice and three times, only succeeding that third time. It takes courage to keep trying, but it's the right thing if you think you have the right ingredients but just need one more attempt for it all to come together.
When Tynes missed a 43-year field goal in the 4th quarter, Coughlin didn't disguise his disgust. No hug and "there, there" this time. When Tynes missed again at the end of regulation, the poor snap and the rush into overtime probably spared him Coughlin's wrath.
At 4th down in overtime, Coughlin didn't hesitate. He sent Tynes back, for his longest attempt. It was a clean shot and a big win. Coughlin: "We keep scrapping, we keep working and finding a way to win." Tynes: "I knew I could get it there." If Coughlin had any doubts about letting him try again, Tynes said, "He was going to have to pull me off the field."
As that noted business strategist W.C. Fields said, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

Why didn't the Packers call a time out and freeze Tynes one more time?
