Damianos joining LIPA board; commercial real estate developers approve

With the appointment of commercial real estate developer X. Cristofer Damianos to the Long Island Power Authority's Board of Trustees, the commercial real estate community will once again have a voice at the utility.

Damianos, a principal with the Smithtown-based Damianos Realty Group and a member of the Association for a Better Long Island, which lobbies for developers, received a letter Friday from Gov. Eliot Spitzer officially appointing him to a term that will expire at the end of August 2009.

LIPA chief executive Kevin Law said Damianos would be "a great addition to the board," adding that he suggested to the governor others "from the business and environmental communities" as well. He declined to identify them.

A spokesman for the ABLI's spokesman said the group had advocated for representation on the board. Developer Vincent Polimeni, another ABLI member, served on the board, but left the post some years ago.
