It will come as little surprise that businesses on Long Island and in New York City still have a lot to learn about customer service. New Yorkers trade customer-service war stories the way some Midwesterners complain to one another about the weather.
A recent survey by the international company Grass Roots puts New York City and Long Island dead last in major metro areas around the country for qualify customer service. The survey, based on the experiences of mystery shoppers, says that gas stations and grocery stores here performed the worst. It also says that the area has the grumpiest cashiers.
The report is a tad self-serving, though. Grass Roots, whose U.S. headquarters is in Miami, specializes in performance improvement. Nonetheless its findings confirm what too many of us already know firsthand. For more on the survey go to http://www.grg.com/images/AYBSUSASummaryReport.pdf.
